Keys don't need any changes
They don't neccesarily need to change keys. What they DO need to change is hatch mechanics. Just make it not spawn until all survivors but one are dead. That should make keys about as "useful" as moris are now. They could also bring back hatch grabs but that would be a risky move because it could bring back the dreaded hatch standoffs.

Something's wrong I can feel it. Like something's about to happen, but I don't know what.

Agreed, and just make it so that they spawn after the 5th generator is completed, no matter how many survivors are left.
To compensate for these changes, allow them to instantly open chests at the cost of a particular amount of charges.

Forcing the last survivor to do gens is a guaranteed death, unless the killer falls asleep
3 -
I meant make it spawn when the 5th gen is done as well as making it spawn normally whenever there's 1 survivor left.
4 -
I think they mean unless there is only one survivor left.
1 -
yes they need , next

Yeah I agree with this. The hatch is a really dumb mechanic in general. Why should the last survivor be able to escape for free anyway?

And this idea only runs everywhere on the forums since the mori change but the devs still haven't done anything much less than use this "easy" Moro like fix.
Simply change the hatch spawn parameters in the code and presto but nope until now.

And thats great.
Why should you get anither chance when you failed already?

While I agree with the sentiment, it also goes against the whole “David vs Goliath” theme that surrounds the entire game.
If I may be so free to assume you’d like to see the hatch be removed altogether, you then may as well trigger the EGC when there’s only 1 survivor left, or even just kill them on the spot.
It’s utterly hopeless for them, and if no gen is close to completion, they can’t do jack. So what do they do? They try to get themselves killed as quickly as possible. Quite possibly the most counterintuitive thing you could have in a game such as this. Alternatively, maybe have one last chase, or maybe if they’re spiteful or scared, make themselves impossible to find. In either case, they are well and truly dead on sight, without anything they can really do.
At least the hatch opening for the last survivor makes for some actual gameplay when you’re the only one standing. Will you find it before the killer does? Oh #########, they saw you. Pray that you find it before you go down. Or maybe you should wait at the exit gate instead.
As opposed to: Welp, time to become a scarecrow.
TL;DR: Hatch opening for the last survivor is fine, imo.

To be honest, yes.
I want the hatch removed.
BUT i dont want the game to be over for the last survivor. EGC should trigger and he should get the chance to escape via the gates.
At the same time they should rework EGC a bit and rework the gates a bit, so its fair for BOTH sides, so both sides have a fair cahnce of winning then.

dumbest one is how a survivor escaped through the hatch with a pig trap on their head! used the pig for a daily last night remembered how dumb this mechanic was lol!

Key and hatch are intertwinned.
Key's interact with hatches so changing hatches is effectivilly changing keys
That said yes, having the hatch only spawn when there is one survivor left or all gens are done is the easiest way to deal with the issues of keys
1 -
Hatch grabs no because I remember the days of the stand off and that was the worst lol. The hatch spawn suggestion I think would be good though but they'll just say they can't because of the achievement, even though they could just change it and let anyone keep it who's already done it.

Given that Killers can now close the hatch, I don’t think hatch standoffs would happen in the same capacity as back then.
1 -
But I assume he's talking about opening the hatch and them grabbing you while you're jumping in so it would be the same as before where they won't hit you because you'll get away so they'll just wait for you to try and jump in.

Because it's the endgame and it's a fight to the death at that point. One survivor alone isn't enough to best the killer.
If the hatch didn't spawn, it would be putting the last survivor into a situation they would have no hope winning. You might as well end the match and say the killer got them.
By adding the hatch, it evens the playing field and gives the survivor either the hope to find the hatch or time to open the gate while killer searches for it. It's not a guaranteed kill or a guaranteed escape.
Plus, it's EGC so honestly being upset at any play tactic introduced there is pointless.

The Hatch works just fine, but keys actually do need changes.
Simply create a animation of like 5 seconds to unlock the hatch. Once it is unlocked, one person can jump in. After that, the hatch gets blocked by the entity for X seconds.

@xEa Been preaching exactly this for 4 years now...

Agree with everything but hatch grabs

yep they made it so chests now have an unlocking animation so no reason hatch cant be the same to even the playing field and have the audio notification telling you your near it

Nah - I think keys should be single use - only the survivor who holds the key can use it. Keep the same requirements for when it spawns etc.

I mean its not a "free" escape its just a random chance who will find it first and frankly the killer has the edge in finding the hatch in almost every scenario except a full 4-man all searching for it.
1 -
I mean that's what tournaments do and what competitive players typically play like. They just ignore the hatch as a mechanic altogether because it's unfair. It's pure luck most of the time and that's not really fair. It's dbd not a roll of the dice like Mario Party.

Hatch standoffs only existed because the killer couldnt close the hatch back then.
0 -
They can ignore it, but that doesn't mean it's an unfair mechanic in and of itself. I imagine most people don't play this game competitively like that.
