Does Hopper know that Steve and Nancy disappeared?

Well, I was rewatching Stranger Things season 2 and I always wondered, how Hopper and the boys always got to the bottom of a whole mess like when they kidnapped Will or the appearance of the mind skinner.

I always wondered, if in the alternate universe of Stranger Things, Hopper and the boys know that Steve, Nancy and Jonathan (I mention it because maybe it's just another survivor or a forgotten memory on Nancy's part) disappeared? As they knew of the existence of the skinner, they did not know of the existence of the entity?

    Eleven probably can sense that they weren't taken to the upside-down but somewhere else...

    I have theories on this but I don't want to put them here as it might spoil Season 3 for those who haven't seen it.
