Why is DS even a skill check still?
On top of the fact that it's been heavily nerfed I can't see why DS even has a skill check component to it when considering that the connection can be based off of a laggy killer which results in a completely unpredictable interaction. I've missed multiple times even since the last update because of a bad connection with the needle simply not lining up like normal.

I guess the Devs just couldn't be bothered making it automatic. Or maybe they thought that it'd somehow be OP if it were automatic? I dunno.

Im sorry but you miss cause you bad. The reason the skill check is still there is because you get an extra health state if you get tunnel and that huge in a game like that

It absolutely should not be automatic. DS should not be a free escape. There are many instances where a killer simply has no choice but go after the person who was unhooked because they simply cannot see where any other survivors went. Killers are just playing the game just like survivors are just playing the game. A survivor with DS should EARN that stun.

(I also suck at hitting it on PS4. Inconsistencies with the framerate really kill being able to hit this skill check.)

Because it can be used later, if you don't input anything it will save your skillcheck for next time you get unhooked and picked up. (if you even survive to that point) I actually utilized it that way a handful of times before.
Now that it's been nerfed significantly, I wouldn't even mind if it could activate and stun twice in one trial.

The perk has been destroyed, so congrats to killer mains. Not only do survivors now get punished for playing the game, it's useless on console. I stopped using it and just run Borrowed Time now. I wish my teammates would do the same. They've been complaining a lot about DH and Iron Will lately too, so those should be the next to be destroyed for survivors.

It's an old dilemma. Those who abuse it don't care about the skillcheck: they never miss it. Those who actually need it because they are not so good at the game sometimes miss and get frustrated beyond humane. What's the point of making the perk intended to protect against tunneling harder to use for those who is generally the victim of tunneling, ie weaker players?
They should just make it so that it deactivates on interaction with game switch, deactivates during EGC and probably on interaction with lockers too, so that it's not literally "free escape" and can't be used to bully the killer anymore. And the skillcheck should be gone. That would make it a good and balanced perk I think.

I still see it all the time. Still works like usual, even the devs said the stars are largely the same. All it means is now survivors can't abuse it. Its no longer 60 seconds of free gens, or guaranteed safe unhooks.
Still destroys tunneling like it should.

They still can abuse it by jumping into a locker to bully the killer and to get a guaranteed escape during EGC. Free escape during EGC is not "protection against tunneling", and unfortunately it still works exactly like this.

How am I abusing it if I try to heal myself? Or if I tap a gen for a split second? A perk that is supposed to give you a chance against a killer that chooses to tunnel deactivates if survivors play the game. It's bullshit. That does not still work as usual. They should have made the perk deactivate if the killer downed or hooked someone else, which would very much be NOT tunneling. But they didn't do that. I'm surprised it doesn't deactivate if you vault a ######### window now.

The perk has been destroyed so hard that I see 2-3 DS's every game as a killer. Yeah, the perk is literally useless now, how dare they!

If a killer is truly tunneling then don't jump on a gen. If a killer comes back and sees you on a gen next to the hook its not tunneling. If you have time for a gen/heal your not being tunneled.

You gain progress, that's how. The whole point of the perk is to protect against tunneling. If you have the luxury to stand still and heal yourself, or tap gens, you are probably out of chase already and free to go, that is, the "tunneling" is over. It was never intended to be used to gain advantage in any other scenario.

It shouldn't have a difficult skill check anymore. There's no reason for it beyond a relic of the past. A good survivor will always hit the skill check and it makes zero difference having it. Currently, that skill check only causes the perk to be gatekept out of new or struggling players who need it the most.

The reason the skill check exists is in case you want to save it for your second unhooking and just let the skill check run out this way it won't be deactivated for the rest of the trial.
There could be some tactical use to it in this way. All this being said I wouldn't mind if it was made to be a bit bigger. Heaven forbid there be lag involved, hitting that skill check can actually be difficult/impossible because lag makes it that way at times. I understand console players wishing it was easier or just automatic but it seems most people on here don't care about them or their opinions. Personally I think greater accessibility is always better. This perk has already been nerfed quite heavily and killers can easily tunnel through it. Making it easier to activate wouldn't be the end of the world >.>

Yes. This is the only buff the perk needs. "But if you take the skill check away, it takes the skill out of it!" as if getting tunneled is a skill. How does BT work? Unhook, no skill check. How does Unbreakable work? Recover all the way, no skill check. How does Sprint Burst work? Run, no skill check. So why should you getting picked up get a skill check? It's inserting 'skill' into a place where there should be none. You're just pressing a button I get it, but for one reason or another, like stuttery skill checks or lag, sometimes you miss it. So it begs the question, why is the skill check even there?

Um I'm console, use it every game and hit it easily. Still one of the best perks in the game as it punishes people who tunnel. Plus what if I dont want to use my DS straight away? I might want to save it for later which I cant do with an automatic skill check...

Well I would say that the 1 frame tap of a gen without really losing any distance on the killer during a chase is bs in itself.
Sometimes there isn't even any animation to indicate the tap. The survivor simply runs by a regressing gen and the sparks magically stop.

That's a separate issue that I agree exists. However, as long as that is a thing، you can't deny people are able to do that in a chase.

Well it is still a conscious choice from them to do it. Or if not then they should maybe go out more when stuff like that becomes reflex.
Not that I am one to talk when I can blindly play games like lol and have cooldowns and layouts on (muscle) memory.

I don't think it's about being op it's more likely about the interaction. DS is like a knife you stab into the back of the killer. The pick up animation is the preparation and the skill check replaces the stab. Once you hit spacebar and hit the skill check it's the moment where you stab the knife into the killers back.
And if you fail, it's like you were nervous and you lost your knife out of your hands. I think it's an interesting mechanic.

I don't use DS since the nerf, one of the last times I did use it, I got picked up right by the (open) exit gate and I missed the damn skill check and got killed.
I personally think DS is pointless now anyway, since anyone who uses it only has a few seconds to get away and the killer goes straight for them as soon as they've recovered. Yes it technically buys them a 'second chance' but the vast vast majority of times I've seen it used, they get hooked 10 seconds later rather than 5 seconds later anyway. To me it's a waste of a slot, eliminating the skill check would make no difference to me.

Sometimes you don't want to use it on the first occasion. You want to keep it for your last hook and trick the killer to make him think you dont run DS.
Having it automated would nulify the only strategic approach DS got.

What does the nerf have to do with the effect? It works exactly the same as before and only the turn off parameters were added.
Or are you talking only about the self-healing portion? If yes, why or how would that make a difference?
Either you get chased immediately and didn't have time to heal and/or your scratch marks would've lead the killer to you before getting completely healed or you are not immediately focused again and can change locations to heal yourself in safety/find a teammate to heal you.

Why disable it at EGC just cause you think it’s a free escape?? It’s the killers fault for even allowing survivors to have it at that point.

If they lack the skill the hit a qte then frankly they don't deserve the stun.

The skillcheck is there because it allows you to chose to use it or save it
extremely uncommon stategy but if you let the skillcheck pass without hitting it or missing it the perk isn't deactivated for the rest of the game and you can save it for your 2nd hook
This is either a design choice or was their only way to actually implement a way to activate ds at the time but they liked the idea of it and kept it

How does a killer's lag affect the DS skillcheck exactly? This might have been an issue when killers were hosting the matches, but this game has been utilizing server hosting for awhile now.

I honestly don't have a horse in this race (skill check or no skill check), but I'm going to toss this out there:
I'm surprised no one has suggested having DS be a button press (activate secondary ability) during the 3 second pick-up animation. If you don't press the button, you keep the DS. If you do press it, you hit it and it deactivates. It keeps the "I want the option to keep it" crowd and the "I don't want a skill check" crowd happy.

The skill check should be easier or removed.
New players need Decisive Strike the most (especially since new killers' default, go-to behavior is to camp and tunnel), yet new players are the worst at landing skill checks.
