Part 26: How would you feel about a Little Nightmares Paragraph in DBD
Hello everybody my name is Markiplier and Welcome to the Little Nightmares DBD poll-ok yeah I'm done with the Markiplier schtick. I saw a thread on this in general discussions so thought why not. I also saw one or two concepts for it before that. In my opinion if this were to enter dbd it would have to be a paragraph due to lack of a survivor. But it could bring in many other things along with a killer. The killer would be the lade who could have a very unique weapon and weapon animations. There could also be a few skins as well. The twin chefs could be skins for clown (literally in the first game one tries to throw a wine bottle at you) and a Six skin for Feng. The Runaway Kid and Mono could also be skins. Maybe the granny could be a legendary for hag but doubt. If paragraphs came with maps there are many options such as the dining area, the lady's quarters, the prison, and maybe the engine room or kitchen.

🟦YES I WANT IT
I loved those games. Also I have a confession. On that one player satisfaction survey where they asked any licenses they might have missed I might have put Little Nightmares.

Little Nightmares is a fantastic, atmospheric thriller / suspenseful adventure game, and I would absolutely recommend it 10/10 times to anybody that hasn't played it.
But it's not for Dead By Daylight- it's just not. The main characters are canonically 8-12 inches tall so a survivor is undoubtedly out the window, I don't see many of the killers being good fits either- they operate marvelously in the frame of their own story but probably not as well in dead by daylight, and the game itself is so visually distinctive and unique that it looks like it came straight out of a Tim Burton film- it visually contrasts DBD to such a degree that I don't believe it's realistically compatible.
I know there are some arguments to be made either for Little Nightmares or against what I've said- like, "Oh visual contrast doesn't matter- look at Trickster!" or "Yeah, but there are a few antagonists from Little Nightmares that might still work like The Lady!"
Answer to that former: Trickster visually contrasts the other killers but he doesn't contrast the overall tone and setting of the game. His story is just as dark as any of the other characters and begs thoughtful players to think about the effect Fame and Glory on a person. How Celebrities in the modern day are often enabled in their darker tendencies, and that inappropriate if not harmful behavior is overlooked. How these people, given the opportunity, can take advantage of the praise and popularity they're given, should we not be mindful and view them only through the crooked rose tinted lens of idolization.
Whereas Little Nightmares is flat out- fundamentally visually contrasts Dead By Daylight. Little Nightmares is a surreal suspenseful adventure of a small character in a big and oppressive world. True to its name, it's very reminiscent of how a child might wander through their own nightmares in the dusty recesses of their minds, affronted by the things that confuse or scare them.
Indeed- for many of the death sequences between the two games, not a lot of time is spent on the aftermath when you get caught, the frightening mystery of what happens next a completely elusive idea to a child, as the screen fades to black when you're inevitably caught in the grip of a disgusting or horrifying creature. In some of the death scenes you even get eaten- very much like the fears of a small child who is afraid of being eaten by big monsters. Funnily enough- when the screen goes black and you respawn your character "wakes up" as if having just been startled awake by the mysterious horror of an ambiguously nightmarish end. But rarely if ever is there any real actual blood or gore on screen, the closest thing I think would be that kitchen sequence in the first game and the meat is being ripped and cut open by the chefs. But even in that level the scenes depicted were merely grotesque, and suggestive of what may happen should you be caught- and as far as I remember there wasn't actually any blood or gore in there either.
Altogether completely different from the "realistic" dark purgatory-like fantasy of Dead By Daylight which very much considers a more mature imagination and perspective to put into context the endless suffering of survivors trapped in a cycle of slaughter.
Answer to the latter: The Lady is basically the Nurse as we see her in DBD. The Lady in LN also has telekinetic powers, can float, and teleport. Although I guess she can also turn children into Nomes? Which is a very odd power that I don't see converting very well into Dead By Daylight. What I've written thus far about the contrasting themes and visual design, the lack of blood in LN, also applies just in general in trying to make a killer work.
There's also just the small fun fact that the director himself doesn't actually consider Little Nightmares to be a real horror game- he calls it a "suspenseful adventure" game which- for DBD purists who take issue with the idea of expanding into the grey areas beyond horror that include Thrillers and more suspenseful pieces of media (film / TV / Games) might be a dealbreaker. I've never been one to strictly adhere to this self-proclaimed rule in my own theorycrafting and speculation, and though I think it's a good general rule I don't think it's a steadfast harsh line- licenses should be looked at a case by case basis.
Still though, I figured it'd be worth mentioning.
All this being said, what it really all boils down to is I spend way too much time thinking and writing about an idea that really isn't worth thinking about to begin with. Rip lol.
