Is it possible to play 'fair' and still win against 'optimal' Survivors?
When I say 'fair' in this context, I'm referring to playing in a way which doesn't upset Survivors. By this I mean, no excessive slugging as well as little to no tunnelling and absolutely no camping. When I say 'optimal' Survivors I mean a team of Survivors (don't necessarily need to be a swf but could be) who split up as much as possible and are always doing a gen when they have the chance. They are also at least semi-competent in the chase so you're likely going to have some trouble downing them. It is also impossible to snowball them due to how spread out they are, although that may be forbidden anyways under the no excessive slugging rule.
I'm interested to see what the consensus on this is.

Kinda (Depends on the map, what Killer you're playing etc)
I mean, Nurse / Spirit are still a thing so yeah.
Even against optimal survivors Nurse is still Nurse and Spirit is still Spirit. Although obviously they're not going down as quickly as normal since in this hypothetical they're all competent with no weak links. Still though.

Against an optimal team, 3 gens are popping once the first chase is finished. Playing pallets safe plus dead hard can make it so most killers will have no chance of ending that first chase sooner. At that point, if you're playing fair, the killer's objective is 8% done and the survivor's objective is 60% done. And there are still half to 3/4 of the pallets left on the map, depending on how well that first survivor did
So at that point, the game is lost unless you stop playing fair. And even then, it's probably already too far gone. It is why the early game in particular is so frustrating against a good survivor team

If you are a full-time streamer and playing Dead by Daylight is your job then they are beatable. For people who play a few hours a week then I would say it is unlikely.
Also, these survivors won't play "fair" so slug away!

Had a game I was pretty sure I was gonna lose. Hardly had any hooks until the last 1-2 gens needed to be done. Mostly because the survivors knew what they were doing and spread out and did gens — but I also got a couple of weird bugs/unlucky circumstances in that game that threw me behind (one I can remember clearly is a Dwight rushing into the locker right in front of me as a last resort and when I go to open the locker the game rendered that I opened the other locker next to it that I wasn't even facing so he was able to leave and make significant distance).
After taking a breath and turning my head back on straight again I was able to focus and get hook after hook. No slugging, tunneling, or overly ambitious hook saves in front of me that allowed me to get an easy down. I ended up winning and letting the last person have hatch.

Ignoring variables that can tilt the game in your favor or otherwise such as maps and killer powers and depending on what your win condition is, yes, it's completely possible to not be a dick and still win the game. I voted 'yes' because it's possible to win most games and the game seldom screws you over enough to make you lose because of something that isn't your own fault. My win condition is pipping, and I win almost every match.

Killers don't have enough time to 12 hook the Survivors without using some combination of tunneling, camping, slugging, and slowdown.
I personally don't really like resorting to any of the first 3, so currently I'm running 3 slow down Legion. I'm not sure my Survivors like that more... But... Them's the breaks.

With a strong killer and a map with favorable rng towards the killer, it's certainly possible to play fair and win against optimal teams. It's just very unlikely and you really need the stars align.

As long as SWF is still in DBD, the game isn't fair, so why should you play nice?
Just play the way you think it's necessary. So if you think you need to tunnel someone, just do it.
I play both killer and survivor, and playing nice is not always an option.
Players who get salty in the endgame chat because they think you've played unfairly will also get mad if you play nice.
Toxic players get angry anyway...
