What is the purpose of perk ranks in modern day DbD?
Basically what the title says. If anyone can give a definitive answer to this, I'd be greatly appreciative.
Edit: A good reason tho lol XD

To add to the already atrocious grind.
You didn't say it had to be a good reason, so there you go.

Because BHVR wants to you play forever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever

I felt this

Honestly I don't know why it's a thing anymore some perks don't even matter regardless of what tier it is
Or the perk is garbage tier 1 and 2

+another for the grind. If there were no tiers, people wouldn't play this game as much. I think it's too much as it is now, but without perk tiers, it wouldn't be enough to keep me interested. I'd be done after 10 days of a new DLC dropping.

The grind incentivizes you to keep playing the game since you've already invested so much time into it. There are youtubers with 1000s of hours in the game that haven't even maxed the killers yet. Think sunk cost fallacy.

Someone did the calcul and the time it would take for a player to have everything max out is close to 4k hour.

For new player content
imagine being a new player, logging in for the first time and playing a few matches as survivor, earning around 10k a match because you don't know much better, lets say for example bloodweb costs are as follows
1-5 = 15k each for 75k total
5-9 = 20k each for 155k total
10 = 25k each for 180k total
11-14 = 20k each for 260k total
being generous it would only take a new player doing ok 26 matches as survivor to reach level 15 in their bloodweb and suddenly there is nothing left, they already have their 3 teachable since they started with them, and they already have gotten all generic perks, where is there to go from here other than grind to level 30, 35, and 40 to gain 3 perks for other survivors to increase the levels they actually have with "content" and progression in them
you need 8 survivors worth of teachables just to have content up to level 38 a decent breaking point since now all survivors have something to gain while getting their teachables, and from level 38 - 50 you need an additional 8 survivors teachables just to have perks all the way up to level 50
sure removing perk tiers would make end game content much more bearable but it leaves early game content feeling much emptier with much less to work towards

I guess it's to keep people playing, but I just don't think it's that type of game. Does anyone stop playing a character when they have things unlocked? I have all perks on all killers. I'm really annoyed when I have to grind new perks, but when I have things unlocked, I just play the game. It's not a vertical progression RPG. The goal is to play the trial against other players, not to get stronger. I think it's completely asinine to essentially gate tools behind thousands of hours worth of grind. Like..."Wow I unlocked Ruin, guess I can finally play a different game." Hello?

To make you grind to the bone, obviously.

The bloodweb needs to be reworked, at least to some extent. Perk tiers make no sense and pollutants such as fog offerings make the grind even more painful.

I think it has to do with prestige levels as you prestige the the higher chance the perk you chose appears as its next level in the BW instead of having to grind through a bunch of random ones. so basicly like every one else said its there to waist your time..

This is really funny cause without the ceaseless grind I'd probably play more lmaoooo. If console actually worked that is.

To force you to waste even more time and bloodpoints than you already have to.

On all my P3 characters, and I'm P3ing all of them, I didn't notice having more chance to get the next tier of a perk.
0 -
Because that's not a thing. There's a slightly higher chance to get higher-rarity things in your bloodweb, but it's not noticeable unless you've got a spreadsheet and go through several hundred bloodwebs.

For the bP eCoNoMy.

Ranks for perks are just absolutely silly. BHVR already stated that they're trying to lessen the grind so why would they keep such an outdated system with so many perks in the game now?
0 -
Maybe they intend to address the grind another way? Removing perk tiers isn't the only solution in the universe.
0 -
It isn't, but aside from increasing bp gain or decreasing bp cost permanently, I don't see how else BHVR could accomplish this. Sure the temporary bp boosts are fun, but it doesn't address a very arbitrary problem that can be fixed quite simply with a numbers tweak.
Of course, numbers would need to be adjusted after the first initial tweak, but that's something that'd be said about ANY tweak of numbers. Just look at the numbers buff given to Trickster today.

Idk i did notice my p3 would immediately get the next 2 perk levels shown in the BW where as P2 you have to buy a bunch of greens before purple perks start appearing an p1 just gets littered w random perks and you don't start seeing higher levels till baiscly rank 40ish
