The Dead by Daylight team would like your feedback in a Player Satisfaction survey! https://dbd.game/4dbgMEM

do you think dead by daylight should include licenses outside the horror theme?

Hello, I create this discussion to know your opinion, personally I think that dead by daylight should include more licensed characters (preferably survivors) that are not horror, I feel that some characters from movies and series could be included, I do not mean as chapters or paragraphs but rather as legendary skins, there are certain characters that I would like to see in the game and it would also bring more fame to the game, therefore more players and less time to find a game, an example is fortnite that makes great collaborations that makes the game more striking and makes it have a larger player base.

Pssdt: The discussion was created to know if you would like to see this, I already have another discussion in which talks about which characters of licenses that are not horror you would like to see, finally I emphasize that I do not like fortnite just give an example that they have less time to find games because of the collaborations that makes.

No, absolutely not. The only thing I would accept is hybrid franchises. Like, Terminator or Predator would be fine, in my opinion. Mortal Kombat has the right idea. Rambo was a little sus. But I like Rambo, so I let it slide.

Eh I mean they've kind of done that already with Ash. Yeah the first movie was horror but the other 2 movies were really far away from horror and not scary in the slightest. It was violent but absolutely not horror and was more comedy than anything else.

I'm not super against other non horror characters being in but it would still have to be dark/violent.

depends what characters do you mean

Terminator, Predator fit dbd well and would be awesome to have it here. Tomb Raider in my opinion is also fine. It's not horror franchise but it is about struggling/surviving so it can work like survivor only dlc or something.

But characters from street fighter, assassin creed or kratos would be out of place in dbd for sure

You are right in what you say, I also like the touch of horror that is in the game, but I doubt that much affect the legendary skins, would be more survivors and being honest anyone could fit as a survivor in dbd, on the issue of murderers I think that there if it could hurt, but everything can be expected after the arrival of the trickster, thank you very much for your opinion:).

I know that dbd is considered the hall of fame of horror, as I said on the part of the survivors I do not think it will affect anything because it would not affect the gameplay just see more familiar faces and also because basically anyone qualifies to be a survivor, Thanks for commenting :).

I'm gonna be honest with you, the moment u mentioned Fortnite in DBD I stopped reading.

But, leaving that aside. My answer is No. I would not like to see other franchises that are not horror in DBD. Especially Fornite.

    No.

But I would accept The Terminator and Predator. Both are frightening antagonists with horror elements.

In a way, yes. I'd like things that fit but aren't exactly horror, like Supernatural or Scooby Doo.

No. I don't want this at all. If they wanted to do a game that WASN'T DbD and was just a super meme version of it that was a separate entity I could do that.

Like " cleanse 3 totems and do 1 gen and you can Rasengan the killer " level of stupidity.

I'd be up for a " Meme By Daylight " but , I definitely want it SEPARATE from DbD.

Well they were kind of comedy horror so still in there somewhere.

I'd personally like them to keep the horror tone.

    Not really.

But there are some franchises that are definitely worthy even though they are not outright labeled horror. I guess like mentioned Predator and Terminator. Or imo Don’t Starve could qualify as a horror survival game. Kinda. Though I understand that some don’t agree on that.

I wonder how that'd work. Would he change his look to look like a survivor?

Only very few exceptions but yes - An example as above is The T-800 Terminator. The movie wasn't primarily horror but it had horror themes and who the ######### wouldn't want Arnold Schwarzenegger in Dead By Daylight?

As others have said, it should always crossover with things that have some kind of horror element. Sci-fi, action/suspense, and mystery tend to dance very close to the line, so there's a lot of IPs there that would be acceptable. It still depends even then though.

For instance, Fortnite did a crossover with Tomb Raider this year and while Tomb Raider undeniably has several horror elements, I still don't think Lara Croft would be an appropriate pick for DBD (especially given that her skillset wouldn't be utilized at all). However, a crossover with something like Scooby-Doo would be much more fitting, because while it's not typically horror-themed, it does deal with spooky chases and has a lot of potential to work with keeping the game in mind.

Ultimately too, with how fractured the horror genre tends to be, I think it's good for fans to have at least one place to go to get their fix. Not that DBD is the only option available, but it's one of the few games out there that still has a lot of active players. Opening it up too far beyond the horror genre would take that away.

Depends on which. There's some that aren't horror/slasher that can work, and others that definitely can't.

I personally wouldn't mind it, as long as the Survivors are Human or the Killers still fit the theme of DbD in some way

Yeah, it would definitely depend. Like an example above, Tomb Raider is not horror but I think Lara Croft would fit in great as a survivor. As a general blanket statement though, no, let's stick to horror.

There wouldnhave to be some element of horror in what is chosen . With killers, it's a little easier: You could have Carnage from "Spiderman", Scarecrow from "Batman", Villanelle from "Killing Eve" or Vaz from Far Cry 3, for example. All would fit in, but to have a cross over that's completely out of sync, like Mario or Bowser, it's gonna feel a tad odd.

.. although, a Mario perk that allows him on first hook to not just escape but bounce off the hook to the far side of the map, or stomp on the killer's head is a bit tempting...

No. The most they should stretch is horror adjacent (something like Beetlejuice).

It can be more of an action genre but I has to have horror elements like resident evil

is exactly what I mean, on the side of the assassins I see it detrimental to the game but on the side of the survivors I doubt it will affect, you would have the same animations and they will not do something that other survivors do not do, but I think I should specify more in only survivors and not assassins as to add more licenses. Thanks for commenting.

Well as such I was not referring to Mario Bros, I was referring to characters a little more human (I know Mario is human but you know what I mean) from movies and series of drama, action and science fiction but mostly survivors, because as I said anyone qualifies as a survivor. Thanks for commenting:).

Quite honestly, if they started including things Fortnite style, that would feel like a massive sell-out. Stranger Things, to me, already borders on that line.

    ...Well this aged poorly.

Stranger Things still keeps that horror atmosphere though, which makes it work really well with DbD. Yeah it's a different type of horror but still works really well. Look at Saw, Torture Porn horror but still works with the Slasher theme of DbD

Im usually an open minded person but that is a no from me.

DBD is a horror game... having non horror characters around would be odd to see.

Horror is such a vast genre already that I don't think bhvr will have issues getting licenses. Plus they have an excellent writing and art team and come up with amazing horror characters on their own. Why would they need to reach past their genre?

That being said I do think the community needs to chill on what characters belong here. Is it horror? Then yes the character belongs here. People here seem to think horror is one specific sub genre and that is it- no other sub genres allowed ^^" so silly.

Non-horror-focused media that still includes horror elements could definitely work, as others have said.

It would have to be something that still fits well, like the hunger games.

We have Stranger Things which is more Sci-Fi than horror, but it's leaving the game so.
