Perk shaming is a huge problem

if you use these forums, then im sure you are not new to the community surrounding DBD, including all its contrived idiocy and amazing creativity. Though one thing that has stood the test of time in this game like a weed you can't kill is perk shaming, endlessly arrogant and incredibly frustrating every time. The amount of times i've tried to have a discussion about this game, and somebody just brings up my perks like its a "gotcha" moment and completely disregards the entire discussion really gets on my nerve. And i hate seeing it done to other people too, somebody starts a conversation and some idiot waltzes his way in and derails the entire conversation by saying "yeah, but you use DS/Ruin so you deserve [X]." Why the hell do we shame eachother so often? Were all playing this game to have fun, and some people have fun in different ways. Some people have fun memeing with MoM, some people have fun running their strongest builds. Why should we shame others who are playing the same game we are, with the same resources we have? Its arrogance at its finest and it bothers the hell out of me.

I haven't been perk shamed in a while, and if I did maybe I just never notice.

But this is what I usually say, just run whatever you want, if someone tells you anything just ignore them.

I have perks that I hate but I don't go out of my way to shame someone for using them.

My suggestion is to close the chatbox or if on console just block msgs from other players.

This is what bothers me the most frankly. It feels as though perk shaming is often used as a scapegoat to avoid confronting the very real issues this game has sometimes. We still do it after nearly 5 years.

I’ll still have every right to call out a bad killer player who only got 1 or more kills solely due to NOED, but the fact remains that the Devs are the ones who design poorly thought-out perks - NOT the players. The blame ultimately falls on the devs.

**NOED is an example here. Survivors have just as many, if not more, second chance perks.

Dude if you played at least few multiplayer games you should have got it by now. I am sorry if that came as rude it wasn't meant to be.

It is just that people shame everything they have trouble with because they like to stomp. But even when they do they still trash others. It is just gaming in general with few exceptions.

I had a person recently apologising to me after the game because they didn't saved me. And after a little talk they said how people attack her in ps messages if she doesn't save everyone and leaves through the gate. She is probably really young and I felt so bad, trying to explain to her that she should play however she wants as long as she doesn't insult and bm.

I really feel sorry for younger people who try to please everyone and are scared to be themselves.

Everyone should use killers, perks, offerings and items that they want. Everyone should use strategies they want as long as they don't insult people on purpose. And people shaming and attacking others for their choices are making other peoples experience miserable.

Not mine because I am not a kid anymore but my heart goes to impresionable young folks like the poor girl I mentioned.

This is a great point, and i follow a lot of this advice. My problem is with the fact the issue is so wide spread and very clearly effects the community morale and balance of the game. Its no fun being surrounded by hostile jaded apathy everytime i talk about or read discussion regarding a game i hold very close to my heart. Perk shaming is just one of the most notable aspects of that apathy, and it bothers me because of the fact that its hard to enjoy this game when so many of its players are burnt-out and cruel.

The most I do in this regard is not feeling very sympathetic to a killer who brings NOED or a survivor who brings Self-Care, since they tend to accompany playstyles I'm not very fond of. But I never chew anyone out over bringing whatever's available to them.

I had a killer a while back complain in the post-game chat about how two people on our team who DCed had BT (after the rework). I didn't say anything, but I thought it was a really silly thing to even take issue with.

I think I know which infinite they're referring to and I agree it is dirty when I discovered it as well.

But yeah, gotta love the ruin + undying salt & defense arguments.

I think one reason why people shame perks so much if you noticed are the same perks always used. DS, Unbreakable, freaking SOUL GUARD at times for crazy plays, Dead Hard, Pop, Ruin, BBQ, Undying, Tinkerer. It's basically become like ice cream and people are only getting one flavor. People want to see variety but there also lies the problem. You can't go outside the meta as survivor because killers bring the perks that work, the perks that get them the W's and killers can't go outside the meta because survivors will be glued to the gens as any killer knows you can have great pressure but the moment you take your foot off the gas even slightly, it can all be over which comes down to this: competitiveness. People want to win. They want to escape, they want the 4k. So when the other side plays better or outplays hard, the perks are always the go to spot to hit with salt. Egos come into play and things aren't pretty.

To be honest, noed doesn't even freaking bother me anymore. I see it or Devour and it's just so spicy. It's different than the average build. An endgame build? Man do I want to live to tell this tale. Honestly the end game perks are the most thrilling to me game play wise as a survivor. The stakes are at its highest. I am typically bored always seeing ruin + Undying+ BBQ + Pop. The builds are just boring in this game but they work. I guarantee if killers always brought perks that were trash, there'd be less complaints and way more, "gg ez" "trash perks for a trash player lols" instead of, "BBQ, Tinkerer, Infectious, pop on Nurse..... Wow. Can you be anymore tryhard? You're playing the best killer in the game you don't need those perks."

Ego, boredom and competitiveness is a powerful thing my friend.

Well said. I wish more players realized this is basically just a party game and tried to have fun with perks.

Im not one to name and shame perks unless its a retort, since it usually ends up being the person with 4 meta perks complaining that I used strong things and this happens from either side.

And even if I had equal or less strong things then they do they still feel the need to make that their argument that I shouldn't be allowed to bring strong things while they themselves are just as guilty.

Sure I don't like that the other side runs strong things or that I have to run strong things to counter their strong things but when someone complains about my strong things which are brought to buy time to compensate for their strong things or vice versa I just chuckle because its a double edged sword 99% of the time.

Yeah it's absolutely asinine. A couple months ago I had a thread showcasing a nurse bug and people came and were giving me ######### for using IF on Nurse lol. Like yeah? It's a good perk and synergizes well with her power. Completely disregarded the fact that my weapon literally bounced off the survivor in order to perk shame me. Some people lol.
