How I Came to Enjoy Playing Killer

Hey guys, survivor main here.

I love playing survivor, and for the longest time could not bring myself to play killer. When I did try for dailies, I would get anxiety while I waited for my lobby to load. Sort of because I didn't want to suck, but mostly because I didn't want the survivors to hate me and talk ######### to me. (I mean, let's be real, a lot of players--both survivors and killers--can be really toxic in chat post-match, and I just wanted to have a good game, say "gg thanks for the match :)" and not be ######### on.) So I got anxious, which made the game pretty hard to enjoy as killer. I tried Michael for a while because I love the Halloween movies (yes--I saw the new one!). I found him fun for a while, but also found myself able to get salty/angry at myself for doing so poorly when I sucked. Because of this, I could only play a few killer matches at a time before either quitting the game entirely or switching back to survivor.

I realized that it might have something to do with the mechanics of how the killer's power works. Nurse seemed super fun and different, so I gave her a try, but she just made me frustrated because she's difficult to get used to, and it takes a lot of practice. When Freddy came out, I was like YESSS because I am a huge fan of the Robert Englund Nightmare movies. I found his mechanic really fun too, but again, like with the others I tried, I didn't really enjoy it enough to keep playing. Enjoying the play-style wasn't enough to get me past the frustration of doing well.

Then, the Spirit came out. I fell in love with her design immediately. The bloodpoints I saved up were thrown into her to prestige her, rather than the survivor (which is obviously what I usually did). I have noticed that even if I don't play well, I love her mechanics so much that I enjoy just playing the game and _woosh_ing around. For me, the Spirit unlocked the element of fun that I had been missing in the other killers.

This is not to say that the Spirit is the reason you should play killer. My point is, if you're a survivor main and you can't get into killer easily, maybe take some time to explore the options in terms of what play style and mechanics would be the most fun for you. Find the right killer and you might actually enjoy it. :D

These are my thoughts on playing killer as a survivor main, and obviously people who prefer killer don't necessarily have these same hangups about it.
