Game's Longevity

Realistically, how long do you think DHD will be around? ...well, around *and played*? 5 years? 10 years?

How many more killers and survivors do you see this game getting by that point?

We know for certain that there's, at the very least, two more years of full Dev support, if I remember right. So four years at worst? Then again, TF2 has been abandoned for a while and the community is still there, so it really is anyone's guess.

That's interesting. I don't really watch their dev livestreams, or anything. Is that where they showed some plans for the next 2 years?

It’ll last another couple of years probably. It doesn’t really have much competition so the player base does have much else to go to

If I remember correctly, back in 2018 they have stated that they'd like to support the game for at least five more years. If they've said anything else on the matter since then, I've no idea.

Till tomorrow at 3 p.m. pst. and 100 killers will be added by then.

Tbh idk, I've read around and people have said that they had a 7 year plan and idk how much is left within that time frame.

They'll probably scrap that ( if they haven't already) and milk this game to the bone then smash it into dust and use it as seasoning or something.

Hopefully they release a blonde hunk killer that's 7 ft tall before then.

At least 10 years is what I bet, so more 5. However, they will probably stop releasing DLCs before that, or maybe adapt to a 2 DLCs per year schedule.

That's what I was thinking. DBD seems to operate under the "if you're not growing, you're dying" way of thinking, and DLC seem to be their way of always growing. Now with the end of the Stranger Things DLC, and coincidentally the pinhead additive (something that I think was intentional), I started thinking about what it would really mean if they didn't release DLC for a bit.

So long as the devs don't run out of license killers to grab, the game will keep going. When they run out they will be in trouble. This game lives on fresh blood. You can tell they are running out of ideas. The past few killers/survivors/perks are more like variants of existing powers. Pinhead looks cool but his power literally feels like deathslinger and clown had a threesome with the nurse.

    Sub topic question.

Speaking of DBDs longevity. You think the devs would have abandoned dbd long ago if death garden didn't flop? When that game came out I got the impression bvhr was trying to walk away from dbds many problems.

I feel like they'll stop updating it on its 10th anniversary, in which that would be its final event. Ofc they'll still fix bugs, but I imagine them to remake the game on a different engine, or an updated Unreal version.

I hope at least five more years. I started to play only a few months ago, I want to enjoy the game a bit longer before I leave.

Last online game I played, I've been there since beta, and left after five years. So, five years would be nice to me, if it's more, it's cool!

Which is a shame because I just found two assym games that look awesome

Until the company manages to land another cashcow it'll be supported as it's a constant source of income. If they make another successful game then they'll probably spread resources which will then thin the work and lead to a limbo until death.

  • Yeah that's kind of what happened to Heroes of The Storm i think.

It'll live until the day when a horrible decision is made when an actual competitor comes across.

one Darkness Among Us/ A Binding of Kin level chapter when another Assym game is up, and that could be enough to sway everyone out.
