Scourge Hooks: Their Implications
Hey, everyone! Just had a thought pop into my head.
With the new perk, Scourge Hooks: The Gift of Pain, we have the FIRST perk to directly alter hooks themselves, and their nature.
Sure, PH has a BUILT-IN mechanic to use an ALTERNATE hook, no perks to date have the ability to alter the hooks THEMSELVES.
This opened door ( or window ;) ) of opportunity has me excited. I would love to see more perks in the future to alter props of the match. What if a future perk introduces an altered version of generators? Altered versions of windows/pallets? Even more versions of altered hooks?
What do you all think?

It's a good avenue for some health anti-camp/tunnel perks.
That survivor being rescued comes with an additional downside for the survivors, so it's less of a blow to you, and it also means if you don't go straight for that survivor, they're going to be less efficient on gens. So it's an effective pressure/slowdown effect.
I'm not entirely sure 9% reduced speed on its own is enough, though I suppose it would combo well with Thanatophobia to cover all bases.
I would perhaps remove the Mangled/Haemorrhage effect, and increase the speed penalty to 15 or even 20%.
One interesting idea I like the sound of for a Scourge Hook perk, is one where the rescuer and rescuee trade a health state. So when a survivor is rescued from a Scourge Hook, that survivor is instantly healed to full, but the survivor who rescued them loses a health state, either injuring them, or if already injured, putting them into the dying state.

What you've suggested is a great reason for people to stop doing hook saves entirely just to avoid losing a health state. It takes very little to make survivors stop rescuing each other.

does monsterous shrine count as a map modification perk? maybe it could be a scourge hook perk. I thin I saw a rework like that.
also, what about hexes? blood favor, ruin, and crowd control all modify the map.
I do agree this could be a great step into a new age of unique map perks.
imagine Freddy with Blood favor, crowd control, dream pallets, and gift of pain. nothing is safe.

I don't know, I get a lot of mileage out of Make Your Choice, which is basically what this would be, only slightly more 'permanent' with a hook-specific requirement for it. Plus the unhooked survivor is getting a free instant heal. Once survivors know you have it, they just make sure they only rescue when at full health and take the (entirely fair) trade off. What it means is, less tunnelling, the unhooked survivor is now the less desirable target.

People aren't going to tunnel less just due to a scourge hook giving a free health state. People who tunnel a lot will usually prioritize tunneling someone out of the game. People who are willing to swap targets usually don't feel that their in a situation where they need or want to tunnel. I've also watched so many survivors quit doing hook saves the moment they encounter MYC or even just minor resistance from the killer. It actually frustrating because I usually play killer and I actively need them to save, but give out one exposed status effect and suddenly people just die on first hooks cause they won't save even if I walk to bodega across the map.

The majority of "tunnelling" isn't tunnelling, it's simply killers finding the most obvious target, the recently unhooked, still injured survivor who is groaning at 300 decibels, leaving a trail of blood, and panicking so much they're leaving scratch marks for miles. Meanwhile the unhooker is often silently slinking away into the shadows.
Sure there will be some killers who intentionally tunnel out survivors to eliminate them ASAP, but they're neve going to stop to matter what.
This would allow all of those incidental tunnellers to legitimately swap targets, which is exactly what Make Your Choice does. This would simply be another variant of that effect, that des things a little differently.

Having watched the first HellRaiser last night, I understand more of why Scourge Hook was a perk idea. But my original post still stands! I like that this perk is introducing a new window of opportunity for prop-alteration.
