Splash and Tome/Rift Screens Cause Overheating

I am on the PS4 Pro. Every single time I go to look at the Rift or the Tome challenges, the fans get LOUD. I don't mean kind of loud, I don't mean very loud, I mean extremely loud. I cannot stress enough how loud they are and how much that concerns me.

The fans get very loud on the "Press X to continue" splash screen and on the offerings screen. There is something about the fog effects that the PS4 Pro is not handling well. It has been this way for years, but it's getting much, much worse as time goes on. (Ironically, the fog effects are there to make the opening screen, offerings screen, and Tome/Rift screens look better, but the dip in performance makes them a slideshow at times which is aesthetically worse than no effects at all.)

The absolute loudest the fans get is on the Rift/Tome screens. The visual effects there seem to really tax the system. I don't want my console overheating and ending up with hardware damage, especially not because of the splash and menu screens in a game.

The fog and visual effects are causing overheating issues. These effects are unnecessary on menu screens and could be removed without any effect on gameplay.

When a system runs even a few degrees too hot, performance worsens. Players have previously reported performance problems on the menu screens. The fog and other visual effects may also be causing some of the performance problems within the matches.

(My game is installed on an external SSD, so this is not related to the HDD/SSD issue. Moving the game to the external SSD improved performance but had no effect on the fan noise. I even opened up the system and cleaned the fan just a couple weeks ago in case that would help, but it did not. No other game makes my fans even audible much less loud; this is strictly a DbD issue.)

Update: This happens on both the PlayStation 4 and the Nintendo Switch.

Is there a way to unlock FPS on PS4 Pro? Because I get overheating on PC in the lobby with unlocked FPS and looks like a known issue (that won't change soon, because they already said to not unlock FPS).

Can confirm this happens on the PS4 Slim as well. There's no other game, including multiplayers, that make the fans THAT loud. I noticed on Crotus Prenn maps the fans also get louder, probably due to that make having some unnecessary smoke effects.

I'm on ps4 original and the fans get so loud I can hear them over my headset. My husband has said it sounds like my ps4 is screaming the fans are so loud. This only happens with DBD, any other game/app they are quiet.

This happens to mine as well and can also hear it over my head phones. The only time I've ever heard them get so crazy is like a 10hr straight gaming sessions and honestly I don't think it was as loud as one match of dbd

Update: I was disconnected from a match and sent to the main "Press x to continue" screen, and the fans got extremely loud.

When I first start playing DbD, the "Press x to continue" screen can get loud but I try to go past it quickly. Apparently, if I've been playing the game for any length of time, being sent back to the "Press x" screen gets to jet engine levels within a few seconds.

It took longer for the fans to slow down and return to normal than the amount of time spent on the screen.

Think you might need to sort your console out, dust getting into the vents and blocking airflow or thermal paste needs replacing. My fans use to be like this before I got it serviced.

Like I mention at the bottom of my post, I opened the console up and cleaned it out as best I could, getting every speck of dust off the fan and out of the vents.

If this happened with other games, I would accept that it's the console. However, it's only DbD. Because Sony did not design the PS4 to be opened up, it is extremely easy to irreparably break the board when moving pieces around inside. I'm not going to risk that when DbD is the only game that makes the fans even audible much less loud.

My fans use to be like this before I got it serviced.

So you didn't do it yourself? (Honestly curious about this. Getting gaming consoles cleaned/fixed doesn't seem to be a common service, so everything I've come across about fixing the fan noises is DIY.)

I got it serviced at a Computer repair shop, they gave me before and after screenshots. Got rid of dust completely and replaced thermal paste. the only game that gave me problems was DbD but now no problems at all

    How much was the service?

... ugh, I've never before had a game where I had to keep asking "How much?" to fix its issues so I could continue playing it. I had to buy an external SSD just so I could play because performance was so bad after RE. Why? Why did BHVR have to release this game on consoles? I could have gotten addicted to some other, less frustrating game that doesn't keep eating my money.

    Sigh.

Sorry, that paragraph was directed at the universe in general.

    £50, quite a fair price

Anything around £40 would be fair game but never over £60

Update: Due to getting disconnected, the Nintendo Switch was left on the splash screen for a few minutes. The fans got quite loud.

So, the fog effects tax both the PlayStation 4 and the Nintendo Switch.

This is unacceptable. When a player boots up the game, they wait on the splash screen. Anything in the game hiccups, the player is sent back to the splash screen. A splash screen should be the most simple, basic thing. If I ever had a screen saver do this to my computer, I'd be livid.
