What would you consider actual skill for survivor?
I personally think survivors who can loop and play well without using all meta perks are actually the most skillful players.

Leaving when the gates are open.

Definitely the smartest play you can do as survivor

Loop well, good game knowledge and sense, and are efficent with items/perks etc

I personally think looping doesn’t take a lot of skill especially if you can see the killer over the objects you’re looping at at higher level gameplay..What I think takes more skill is when survivors pause and wait at certain points of jungle gyms to see if the killer either commits or double backs to the pallet side then they play accordingly. Also survivors who predict if the killers going to double back at L and T walls, shack vault, long wall etc by paying attention to the red stain and win mindgames are good survivors imo.
Each killer has a unique power, a good survivor knows how to counter every killer power accordingly..

They always dance when they drop a pallet. Really, it is about the only thing they ever seen proud of. In my personal opinion, there is a reason they feel so much pride for pulling down a pallet.

Game sense. Thats really it, looping is a skill basically anybody can develop. its not that impressive. But game sense? The best survivors have unparalleled gamesense from hundreds of hours of gameplay and that is skill.

All of it.
Loops well, uses resources efficiently, knows when to make a save, make a heal, what gens to blow through and what gens to leave for later..
The more people you can bring with you through the gates, the better.

Repairing gens and clean totems if you see ruin/undying...

I don't necessarily consider looping skillful because it's essentially feeding off direct information . But I do consider stringing loops together skillful.

The understanding of the flow of the trial. Being able to both outplay a killer and when stealthy approaches are best. Being able to adapt and learn the killer's movements. How to use tactics and planning, and realising it's not a race to be done quickly, moreover a constantly shifting pace that requires both speed and patience at different moments.
It's certainly a lot more than understanding how to loop.

Mechanical skill (looping) and decision-making.
It's actually the same for killers.

Looping is easy the real skill of a survivor is knowing the tiles the map spawn.

Someone who knows what to do when, is hard to catch if given the resources to be hard to catch and they know how the game works.
There's certainly a lot of "non-flashy" skill that is often downplayed either because of course it is, it's less flashy than fancy movements and stuff. But it's still very much there, and while a lot of the time it's perfectly natural it's not as appreciated as more flashy kinds sometimes it's also genuine skill-type elitism.
Take it from a former full-of-myself sniper-type player in FPS games. Any skill that isn't clicking on heads wasn't real to me. Positioning, gamesense, movement, teamwork, task prioritization? Who needs that when you can just click good 4Head. I see the same for DBD sometimes, too much of an emphasis on spins, flashlight saves, loooong range hatchets and so on. Without a doubt stuff that requires experience and practice, but by no means the only skill expression there is.

I don't know about skill but what I most appreciate is when my teammate is being useful at all times, not wasting any and making good choices.
You can loop like a god but if killer is ignoring you and you still try to get their attention doing nothing you are not helping the team. Same goes for people running around doing nothing except trying to flashlight save.
Hiding around and being too scared is also a big time waster, not making right decisions like taking aggro and losing a teammate early, unhooking them without bt and leaving them to die. Etc etc. There is a lot of things I could mention like finishing a gen when 3 people are slugged etc.
Don't get me wrong, like I always say people should play how they like and they are not "wrong" playing a certain way. It is just my opinion what is useful to the team as a whole and what is not.

Map knowledge, tile knowledge, game sense, knowing when to loop and when to stealth.
Very knowledge based survivors are

Efficiency, both in and outside of Chases.
In Chases:
Chaining structures to use as less Pallets as possible while wasting as much of the Killers time as possible. LIke, everyone can run Shack Window 3 times and drop the Pallet the next time, but good Survivors chain Structures to each other to minimize the amount of Pallets used.
Outside Chases:
Being efficient on Gens. Not running around doing nothing. Basically only leaving Gens when in Chase or going for an Unhook.

Moving around the map undetected and at the right time for things. Gens are bullshit and i'll never acknowledge them as skill, but there's something to be said about survivor teams that make it feel like they're everywhere and nowhere at the same time with how much stuff they get done around the map, be it hook saves at the right time, totems being destroyed, teammates being healed etc, all the while making it hard to actually find them to chase them.
Making right reads consistently, because they know the killer they're playing against and know how killer players play structures. Not just easily reacting to things that are telegraphed from a mile away, but actually knowing how to make reads with incomplete information.
Having tricky movement at the right time. I'm not talking about A + D spam that dodges like 50% of killer powers. I mean actually knowing how to wiggle at the exact moment to make the killer's play so much harder to do.
Looping is the most basic chase gameplay survivors do. I actually think survivors that can chase rather than loop are way more skillful. It's easy to hold W around a circuit while the killer catches up at 0.6m/s and then press space on an inanimate object. But it's hard to go through a window, threaten with a pallet to break line of sight, make a read to have enough time to reach a new structure, get to an angle that the killer's power can't get you and then keep going, constantly using new stuff you find. Like, a survivor that does that is not even looping, they're just skillful with their use of the map, their reads and understanding of the killer.

I think they're trying to work out whether the killer will break it (so run away) or they don't (so keep using the loop)

Looping
Breaking LOS
That's about it.

Looping takes skill. Whether your using meta perks or not it still takes skill to use your resources properly.
I'd say while in chase leaving tiles that a killer is mind gaming because you know you can make it to another loop is skill.

Everyone's mentioned loops, but also; bodyblocks, generator priority & using scratch marks to their advantage.
3 -
- Paying attention. Keeping an eye while being chased, so if a generator is being worked on, changing your path, so to not sandbag your fellow survivors.
- Understanding a specific tile. Able to read mind-games and killer movement.
- Understanding the importance of efficiency. Often times I feel this one is missed by a lot of survivors. They opt to heal or would rather save the one health state preventing a 99% gen from being completed.
So for me all those are some things that encompass being a skilled survivor. Something that even without the best build you can have a decent match.

This ^^ 100% agree.

Skllful Survivors are the ones that are good at looping but also good at being immersed. Too many Survivors I see just wanting to be chased as soon as possible. But in reality I've wasted more of the Killer's time trying to find me just as much as looping. The first choice being the most obvious since you still have pallets when it gets to end game
1 -
I guess a big one that is quite skillful for survivors is to know when you play stealthy or more aggressive. Looping is a skill in it self but honestly that just comes down to practice and we have perks to help assist with looping and chaining but knowing when you need to hide and wait instead of just going all Leroy Jenkins is something I see a lot of red rank survivors struggle with.
(side note not dropping the pallet right away and actually trying to maximize the loop being dropping it is a skill and I wish more survivors would actually do this in the high ranks >_>)

My issue with the scratch marks one is that its just as inconsistent for killers as it is for survivors.....

I do hate when people say Survivor is just holding Shift W and M1 there is so much more going on. Yeah survivor is more SIMPLE to play but it doesnt mean its not anyless skillful than playing killer.

A skillful survivor:
- can run the killer for around 1 minute while injured and without an exhaustion perk and without pre-dropping everything in sight unless the killer's power forces them to.
- does gens at all times outside of chases.
- isn't afraid to do gens while injured.
- knows how all the killer powers work and their limitations and thus understands how to counter all counterable powers.
- knows how to chain tiles.
- doesn't listen to music while repairing gens. I see survivors get hit/grabbed/downed on gens regularly even though most killers are loud as hell even if they run Tinkerer. And it's not because they want to trade for the gen as most of the time it's not "that close".
It's (more likely) because they listen to music, play without headphones or just don't pay attention to the game.
- splits up on the gates to deny the killer a potential 4 man NOED slug.
- doesn't care about hatch too much as it may hurt the team.
- doesn't rush to the hook as soon as someone gets downed and instead stays on the gen until they can tell whether the killer is camping or not.
- understands when there's nothing to loop and thus tries to delay the down by going around whatever they can find as tightly as possible to buy the team a couple more seconds instead of trying to cringe-60.
- always tries to remember where everyone was so they can roughly tell where the killer is, too.
- can evaluate if they have enough distance to chain tiles and thus don't just camp any strong pallet.
- analyzes the killer's addons and appropriately adjusts their gameplay to said addons.
- analyzes the killer's perks and appropriately adjust their gameplay to said perks.
- tries to split the gens to deny a 3-gen.
- memorizes pallet spawn locations, knows the difference between strong and weak pallets and understands when to drop weak pallets in chase correctly.
- doesn't panic drop pallets when the killer is obviously within hit range.
Not sure if I forgot something.
