What do the different grades mean?
From what i can tell we have four different grades instead of 20 ranks now and each grade has different colors from ash to iridescent.
So is a higher number mean youre better skill wise or a lower number? Im confused

It's basically the same as ranks, just a different look. Ranks being common to iri, this one Ash to iri. You still have to do 5 tiers to move up just like the old system. This one just rewards you for time spent in game basically.
You can't drop grade though, no dropping from iri to gold, even if losing all your pips as far as I'm aware.

Okay but is grade 1 higher than grade 4? The old ranks worked like rank 1 is higher than rank 20 so im confused

Since you're not being matched by rank/grade anymore, now it's down to your sbmm score, it's just saying how long someone's played the game. Even if you get iri ranks after losing some matches they may not be the best players and are closer to your sbmm ranking.

Yes, 1 is higher/better than 4:
Ash IV = Old rank 20
Iridescent 1 = Old rank 1

Okay i get it now. I was just confused about what the numbers meant. The color grade makes sense now too. At first i thought it was the other way around where the number was the primary group and the color was secondary within that. Cool, thank you!
