Wth is wrong with keys depleting challenge

Trying to do the challenge from the 1st tome (deplete 3 keys). Nothing seems to work. I tried every single key with almost every add-on, opened the hatch, depleted it with my m2, actually nothing worked. Is it a bug or smth? My first theory is that they changed it so items don't deplete fully, but why didn't they change the damn challenge then?
