Self care epidemic
Is there a Vaccine for this?
Comments
-
Killers never run Sloppy anymore and they seem to run back to the hook 90% of the time and interrupt altruistic healing, so Self Care came back into favour a bit since it lets you patch yourself up without any real hit to efficiency as long as you don’t use it like a baby Claudette.
The cure for the Self Care epidemic is Sloppy Butcher.

OP whenever they see a self care user

I bring a med-kit the majority of my games so i bring self care for a few reasons. I get more charges in my med-kit, Heal 50-75% of my health then 99 myself with SC and resilience a gen, Leaves spare charges for a quick heal on a teammate if needed.
3 -
How many survivour do you think ratio wise use self care in a smart manner vs a light scratch 2 peope on hooks must self care. If killer are coming back to hook run iron will or lucky break. Well make it from an ally is insane. But nah megs gonna self care in a corner while the rest of her team dies.
The amount of survivors who dont realise how bad there throwing a game self caring even when anti heal is present is so bafflingly huge.
0 -
I'm 100% convinced console players love self care.
2 -
Uhhh - Killers NEVER run Sloppy - ok LOL.
I generally run Sloppy + Thana - 20% increase in amount it takes to heal... or don't heal and take that 20% inefficiency to gens.
I usually run: Sloppy, Thanatophobia, Nurse's, and Pop on my Doctor & Legion and it serves me very well :)
2 -
That's me with bond and see 3 players self caring.

I think most survivors use it badly, yeah. It’s really frustrating watching a teammate Self Care away an injury from a Legion, for example.
But like I said, anti-heal ISN’T really present that often now. There was a period a while back where every other game had a killer running Sloppy. Now, you rarely see it because everyone runs max gen slowdowns. So I think that’s why it’s become really common again.
2 -
Seriously, when I play survivor I see Sloppy maybe once a session. The vast majority of the killers I face run info perks and gen slowdown, not anti-heal. I’m not saying nobody runs it ever, “never” was obviously hyperbole, but it’s WAY less common these days than it used to be.
1 -
I just believe in saying what you mean - and meaning what you say. Saying you RARELY see it wouldn't have gotten any reply from me. I see Sloppy probably 1-2 matches out of 10. I see it more than probably 80% of the perks out there for killer. Is it one of the top 5 perks I see nah - top 12-15 yeah.
1 -
console player here and I can confirm this is true!
1 -
I was joking but I took screenshots of all my 3 games and all the console boys have self care. Oh my god... i'm dying inside
1 -
I do know lots of console players that bring SC by itself (no resilience, Botany, med-kit, etc).

Self-Care is a good perk. It allows someone to heal themself anytime, anywhere. Even more efficiently with a medkit and/or other perks. A survivor Self-Caring means another survivor isn’t taken away from doing generators or anything else. You actually save time for the team when you factor in that co-op gen speeds are less efficient than solo gen speeds.
People still need to figure this out mathematically. Coming from someone who admittedly was in the Self-Care hate camp post-nerf for the longest time.
2 -
Yes, I'm sure survivors I'm complaining about use self care to be efficient. 😱
2 -
The problem is most Self-Care users never do that math. They use it regardless of the situation or other perks in play. Self-Care+Botany is a net gain. Self-Care+MedKit is a net gain. Self-Care on its own or especially with Sloppy is very inefficient and runs the risk of being interrupted because of how long it takes.
1 -
As long as it isn’t interrupted though, the half-heal speed is the same as another survivor needing to heal you (unless they have a speed boost). This is Self-Care even without Botany. With Botany, you’re further efficient healing yourself. You are actually wasting more time if you let someone else heal you.
Sloppy is reducing everyone’s healing speed by 20% regardless. It’s up to each survivor to determine when they should heal or not.
3 -
There are also tome challenges to heal oneself. I believe in Tome III there is one to heal self for 8 health states. It's much more tedious to get done with medkits. I used self care for that and got it done quickly.
0 -
Yes, it's called using it correctly insted of selfcaring every 10 seconds and giving free hits.
0 -
I always go to second phase cause of them self care players lol.

I never use Self Care. If I want a healing perk I use Inner Strength for a few reasons:
- I already do totems every match
- Self Care takes 32 seconds at tier 3 - Inner Strength takes 8 seconds. Even if you include the totem cleansing speed of 14 seconds - it is still 10 seconds faster. If you want Self Care to be faster you have to bring a med kit OR another perk - No thanks.
- Inner Strength is not picked up by Nurse's Calling
Do I care if people use Self Care - nope - it's your game as well - play how you want. For my playstyle where I already do totems it just makes sense to make that totem cleanse have another purpose.

Self-Care is a great perk for new players who are not confident in their looping. Generators go quickly enough with a competent team and if they're not competent you're going to lose anyway. It extends chases, it gives you the ability to learn.
The only bad thing is people who use it when they shouldn't. Against Legion for example, or doing it not near a safe spot, or not saving when you're injured when you should just save and both heal
If you're telling people SC is bad and you're bad if you're use it, then you clearly don't understand this game very well. Being healthy has major time wasting benefits and upsides, but of course there probably are better perks to use when you're confident in your looping and you can just find a teammate easy enough to heal you. Fact is, if you are not that good at the game it would simply be better to improve, not use SC, use a medkit, anything else. But someone not using SC is far more a detriment to their team at times.

Not a fan of it myself but people can use whatever they like.
Dh and iw is enough for me to make me comfy when injured. I don't need to be fully healed all the time. And if we need to push those gens I refuse heals even when others are near.
I don't bring medkits either or any items whatsoever.

The amount of times I've seen
A. Self-Care user Self-Cares close to an objective and their choice causes the killer to interrupt Objective Completion
B. Self-Care user leaves scratch marks running off to some corner, Self-Cares and the killer smacks them, wasting a large amount of the teams time.
Take Inner Strength people.
1 -
Inner Strength:
- Requires that you have a totem available or already cleansed (14 seconds)
- Requires that you then enter and sit uninterrupted in a locker for eight seconds
That's already 22 seconds, not to mention the time traversing. Some maps have very few locker placements as well. It's not a bad perk, but if it's going to compete with Self-Care could at least have its healing time lowered to 5/4/3 seconds in a locker.
1 -
- As I stated - I already do totems so may as well get an added benefit from them. At a minimum I easily find and do 2 totems every match. FYI it does not require a DULL totem - it requires A totem - dull or hex.
- You have to travel to a safe place to self care as well...where you crouch for 32 seconds - vulnerable - easily interrupted - and easily picked up on Nurse's Calling. Inner Strength can only be interrupted if you are picked out of the locker - it is not affected by Doctor's powers, Executioner's powers, Cenobite's powers, etc - Self Care is.
So there is no added time for my gameplay which is what I stated. I use Inner Strength usually once a match and RARELY twice.
1 -
You forgot something. Inner Strength can be pocketed for when it's needed. You cleanse a totem early and later into the trial you have a quick 8 second heal and you're back in the game almost instantly.
Self Care needs you to be injured before you can begin progress. You're a lot safer with Inner Strength because of this fact.
2 -
As a killer using Nurse's Calling, I respectfully disagree and feel that Self Care is the best perk a survivor can bring. I personally think that you're an absolute fool if you do not have self care as a survivor and make sure to ignore your teammates who wish to heal you so that you can be all red and glowy for...other survivors to see you more clearly.
But yeah, self care is a fine enough perk (when used correctly) but there are better perks, especially when so many people seem to want to do nothing but use self car when a teammate is right next to them. I bring up the Nurse's Calling thing specifically because I've seen that way too many times where a survivor wants to self care at the gen I'm working on instead of letting me heal them and then act as a giant "Come kill me!!!!" beacon for a killer. It's amazing how often I'll sit there and watching someone self care only to have the killer show up and take them out. Had I been healing you, you'd have been healed by the time the killer got here but you HAD to do it yourself like a 3 year old who insists they can dress themselves and end up with their pants on backwards and missing a sock...
1 -
I've not used Self Care for a long time now, I tend to run Inner Strength a lot more as like a few people in this thread have said, I also do totems pretty much routinely in a game.
I will also often take in a medkit, especially if I'm running a Resilience, Spine Chill build - 99 the heal for faster Gens etc, then when in danger of getting hit, finish the heal to still give myself 2 health states. This is also still doable with Self Care in fairness, but I prefer to have the perk slots available.
2 -
Selfcare takes a total of 24 seconds to fully heal unless my math is bad (50% of 16 is 8, 8+16=24) and is affected by sloppy butcher + all healing perks, this is also loud and can be seen with auras, you also need a place to selfcare in safety
Inner strength is a 22 second full heal + time it takes to get to a locker, however during the heal you cannot be seen via auras, healing perks do not affect Inner Strength, and usually good usage of Inner Strength will involve cleansing a totem straight off the bat to allow an 8 second heal later, while only being capped at 5 (But do you need to heal 5 times in one game?)
1 -
why wouldn't you just use the defaced smiley pin on legion and free up a perk slot
1 -
The ones you're complaining about would make you want to pull your hair out no matter what they ran.
2 -
I might start doing this.
1 -
Lol, no it’s not more tedious to use a medkit. Just bring a Purple Medkit with charges, then get hit a lot. You can use perks like Botany and Self Care to get even more out of it. Challenge done.
1 -
Self Care takes 32 seconds to heal. It cuts your healing speed in half.
4 -
Not true! I love SC as a PC player as well.
My favorite build. I love being able to quickly heal myself and others.
2 -
"Myself and Others"....there is nothing more annoying than when someone unhooks you and runs behind you like a brainless zombie trying to forcefully heal you....until they lure the killer.
2 -
If a survivor doesn't want healed, then I'll leave them... usually they'll go down a few seconds later, though. :)
1 -
That just makes it worse as it usually takes less than 6 seconds to find a locker
0 -
Like people stopped using self care when the killer had sloppy. They still used it.
0 -
Survivors: Yes I use that vaccine every round, and I use self-care every round.
Killers: Why the [BAD WORD], are they using Self Care
0 -
It was less common in my experience. You would still see Self Care obviously, but now I regularly have matches where there are 3 Self Cares on the post-match summary, and that used to be a lot more rare.
1 -
1 person running self care is already dead weight. it's like a 3v2. From experience, people who run self care are also awful at chases and go down in 2 seconds.
1 -
Not sure what that has to do with my point but OK?
1 -
It's not as time efficient as Inner Strength. Of course the trade off being you might not always be able to fine a totem.
2 -
This is the most disgusting HUD I've ever seen oh my god.
3 -
I'm gonna keep Using self care and no one is gonna stop me. While y'all use your inner strength and waste more time looking for bones and then a locker. I'll self care right as the killer leaves me because chasing me is a complete time waster and they know gens are gonna get done.
2 -
Finding them is rarely the issue so much as other teammates doing bones gives you less heals. And also you can't stack it. And depending on the map, lockers might be a bit harder to find.
Self care is probably more generally viable. But inner strength just has that potential that will always make it more appealing than self care, in my opinion.
1 -
I kinda like it, haha. 🤣

There is no self-care epidemic, just a moron epidemic.
