If a killer is fun to play as, does it matter if they are fun to go against?
Remember that fun is subjective, for example, someone might find Deathslinger fun to play as, but another might not find him fun to play as.
I personally think that as long as a killer is fun to play as, they don't need to be fun to go against.

Yes, a killer should be fun to play as and against.
I think they should try and make every killer fun to go against, but there will always be killers that are less fun than others. As long as they aren't spirit levels of unfun I think it is tolerable though.

No, a killer doesn't need to be fun to go against, as long as people enjoy playing as them.
Ahh well I main someone who is definitely fun to play as myself but not many people like to go up against. I try to make it somewhat fun and more enjoyable by not camping/tunneling/etc but nevertheless some people will never like going up against Tricky.

Pretty much my thoughts. As long as they're balanced and have counterplay (unlike Spirit), then I don't mind.

Trickster can be quite annoying to go against but he isn't broken or anything so he's fine in my book. Plus I unironically enjoy playing as him as well, so heh.

While I don't entirely agree that "a killer must be fun to play against", fun is subjective. What I find fun, some of my friends find frustrating or droll. What they find fun, I might find boring or too easy for enjoyment.
I think every killer character should have a skill curve for both survivor and killer players. I think they should be interesting, and modify typical gameplay experiences in ways that provide a unique experience to both sides. If both sides enjoy the killer, both sides will have rewarding experiences, and it'll improve QoL for trials involving that killer whether or not people want to engage with that honestly.

I rather face him 10 times in a row than play as him for 10 matches

I wanna think about both sides here. This isn’t necessarily up to the players because if someone wants to play as Slinger, Spirit, or Nurse, they should be allowed to play as them. However, it’s up to BHVR to ensure that killers are fun and interactive for both sides.

Let us be honest here, at some point no killer is fun to play against there is always going to be someone angry about how a killer works or how boring a killer is in their opinion. You can't make everyone happy, so just play what you enjoy and don't let other people control your choices it's a game and its meant to be fun, so have fun in any way you please, people will be mad for anything and everything, but it's up to you to either feed into that kind of mindset or go against it.

Every killer is fun to play as when they have enough time to actually play the game, but at some point every killer sucks going against once people start to really find their footing with said killer.
I think comparing the sides is to difficult when dealing with the realm of subjective choices.

Behaviour is doing a good job at making killers to be fun to play as and against, in my opinion.
It's impossible to create killers everyone finds fun to play as and against, especially in DBD.
For me nurse is a killer i hate to play as and hate even more to play against, i also don't like to play as or against blight.
A killer i like to play as but don't like to go against is Spirit.
I think Behavior should look at both killer and survivor perspective when creating a killer.
But i think that is something they already do, at least i hope they do.

######### over 4 people for your own amusement is never okay, and that's all it boils down to: either directly or by proxy, it's about ######### over four other people so you can have fun.
Edit: To clarify, I'm mostly meaning the developers here. Most players don't even realise what's liked or disliked by their opponents be ausw they don't go onto forums and crap.

For me, the biggest issue lately are chase mechanics. Most of the killers we have now, while having their own difficulty curve and style of play, focus largely on ending chases quickly and/or from a distance. While it is fun, it throws the game off-kilter and makes survivor a headache to play sometimes because the few things we have to defend ourselves with become too risky to use.
It only makes it more apparent that the game was built around Trapper (who the game seems to have outgrown) and the devs are relying on other killers to shake up the meta. The abilities are changing while the game stays the same, which I think fuels the sweat and frustration people feel.
So while I think any given killer should be equally fun to play and to play against, I don't think it'll be possible to reach that balance very well with how things are now.

the best design philosophy is fun to play as and fun to play against but nowadays its very hard to do since this community (and tbf a lot of other gaming community) seem to only consider "winning" fun. So a fun killer to play as is a killer who can stomp survivors and a fun killer to go against is a killer who as to be 5 move ahead to even land a single hit. When you look at what balance idea some the players here give, you understand why BHVR tries to avoid listening to the community (not saying BHVR are saints or always make the right decisions). Right now the best design philosophy is a Killer that is fun to play as but not too strong and is fair and clear on how to deal with. I'm the minority but I think Pinehead was a step in the direction of what a lot of the community wanted, a killer that is good at pressuring.

To all the people who voted "No, a killer doesn't need to be fun to go against, as long as people enjoy playing as them."
Please do the world a favour and never sign up for anything related to ballancing at all, no matter if it is the free market or something less important like game ballancing . Thank you so much! 😍

If 4 out of 5 people aren't having fun in a match, that's bad game design, simple as that.
