My Experience with SBMM
So the SBMM system has been out for just about a week and after a good amount of time playing with it I wanted to share my thoughts on it.
Before I start I wanted to say that the new SBMM system was what was either going to bring me back to DBD or the thing to finally uninstall the game. I had only played during the first few tests when it wasnt working so I was a little worried about it being implemented and not looking forward to it. However, with the comments that I saw from a lot of other posts it seemed to be working out so I was looking forward to trying it out. Before the update I hadn’t played since a week or two before Tricksters update because I just wasn't having that much fun with the game. So like I said before this would be the thing that would either bring me back to DBD or the thing that drives me away.
Just a quick heads up I did play a lot more killer than survival once the system was put in place because I find it more fun for me. Anyways I will start with survivor. The quality of the matches were really good. Very rarely did I ever find that I was either stomping or getting stomped. That being said, none of my matches were fun at all. I see only the same few killers Spirit, Blight(which I don't mind I like playing against and as him), Huntress, and Hag. All running very similar builds Ruin, Undying Pop, Corrupt basically stacking two or three slowdown perks and then something like BBQ or Whispers something to help with tracking. I do understand that the way the game is right now you do need at least one maybe two slowdown perks, it's all you see in high MMR(or at least what I assume is because we will never know). Lots of tunneling and slugging but again this is just the way the game forces you to play. So once again while the qualities of the matches were much better my personal enjoyment has gone down. I will elaborate more on this towards the end.
Now killer which I do have a little more to say about it because I have spent a lot more time on it. Like survivors, the qualities of my matches were a lot better. Very rarely did I feel like I was stomping the survivors or was being stomped by them. For the most part I always felt I had a chance. Like with survivor as killer I only see the same few perks BT,DH, SB,IW, Prove Thyself, Flashlights, toolboxes with BNP, just the same stuff over and over again. This isn’t a complaint necessarily against these perks and items is more so that all I see anymore on my two main killers is the meta(Blight, and Deathslinger). It's not even that I am losing to these things. I for the most part 2k with these killers every match(sometimes one sometimes three). BTW my build for Blight is Ruin,BBQ, Haunted Grounds, and Retribution for Death Slinger is DH, STBFL,Undying, and Whispers. However, on killers that I don’t play a lot of, not only is the match quality better but the matches have been way more fun and that's the way I hope to keep it. Seeing weird survivor builds, getting to run hyper meme builds and still be able to 2k, survivors just doing some weird stuff, the chaos from 2018 DBD that I miss.
There is one more issue I want to cover that I have experienced on both sides, my Q times. For me they have drastically increased. I went from waiting anywhere between 1 and 3 mins(both side avg) to anywhere between 15 and 20 minutes. A game of DBD doesn't even last that long. I was spending more time in Q than I was actually playing the game. In the time I sat in Q during the 50 or so games I played during the week I nearly finished the second half of reading Dune.
I started playing DBD in mid 2018 and well...I miss what the game was like back then. The chaos of the game back then was a lot more and to me that was way more fun than what we have now. While things have become more balanced, these changes have pushed DBD away from what I think a lot of the joy came from many people(at least me). The true randomness of map layouts. The insane power of some perks, items, and addons. The sheer state of broken some of the things you could bring in the game were. Not to mention the bugs we had back then at least were entertaining(well some of them). The more BHVR ballences the game the more of the fun that is being taken out to some extent. On top of that the realm beyond is awful and I wish it never happened. I miss the old maps. The new SBMM system also plays a big role in this for me as well. It is pushing DBD to be more competitive which this game isn't ready for nor can it be due to the type of game there should be.
There have also been a lot of instances of one of my friends who is new to the game being matched up against players way higher skill level then him whether it is a bug or the way its intended I don't really know. The most recent example was a 4 man SWF he went up against(Confirmed BTW they were all on each other's friends list). One of them had almost 3000 hours, another was sitting wounded 1k and two others were only around 100 or so, which is about the range of my friends. He would just get run around by one of the highly skilled survivors while the other three just banged out gens. This has happened on more than one occasion too. Probably one in every four games.
Conclusion: I had said before that I was eager to get my hands on the new SBMM system. It was going to be the thing that really got me back into DBD or the thing that finally got me to stop playing. Truthfully I think I am just about done with this game. To be fair I have put almost 2k hours into the game and at some point gameplay will just get stale. However, the chaos I used to enjoy of this game has just about completely left. While yes the quality of the matches were far better the fun aspect has almost entirely been lost to me. Lastly the Q times have gotten so long it's just no longer worth it to play anymore. I might be on from time to time every few months but I just can't find myself playing much anymore. I'll try for a little longer, maybe the system will have some adjustments made but only time will tell.

The new MMR-based SBMM is the only reason I didn't drop DbD after the 5th anniversary, and it has delivered on my commitment. No longer do I have to deal with 4-minute trials. It's pure joy.

You are quite lucky, my friend. I dropped DBD prior to SBMM introduction, and its existence definitely isn't an incentive for me to return.

If you're in a small-pop server or you haven't played since the last test I highly recommend it. I'm not playing that much because Pathfinder: WOTR was just released, but I'm absolutely going to dive back in head first at some point soon. I don't even care about losing, it's just so ######### awesome to have trials that don't blink past in a frenzy of predropped pallets (from opponents or teammates).

Have a friend who got the game but never played it. After 20 minutes of explaining things and getting him leveled and such, our first match is a Meyers who pops EW3 in the first 30 seconds and has everyone downed in under a minute. I'm good, not great and my friend is absolute newbie. Skill based match making my ass. Under no circumstances should that kind of player ever get dropped on someone in their very first match. All purple perks, Ruin, BBQ, etc, this is obviously someone who knows what they're doing. Kinda pissed. But this is what I come to expect.

It’s been odd for me. Killers that I used to do well with have turned into my worst killers. I used to 3k and 4K with trapper with a lot of consistency. Now I’m getting maybe 1k.
On the other hand, killers I used to do poorly with, like Nemesis, are now getting merciless rounds time after time.
I know it’s due do MMR having different scores so the supposed skill gaps are being compensated for with survivors with less experience but I miss being able to screw around with Trapper and have fun games.
It would seem that MMR is working as intended in my case but it feels as though, like acid, something has been lost and something has been gained. It’s just not known what those are or if they were fair or equal trades.
