i need serious help with this ranking system, can someone dumb it down?
before i begin i just wanna say i have taken a hugeeeee break from dbd and only just came back. I mostly play surv but as killer i main huntress and pig, not saying im god like cause im rlly not.
but basically since i have been back i HAVE BEEN so god damn confused with the new ranking, ive been trying to understand but i simply cant, dont know if i am dumb or it just doesnt make sense. since my break i believe ive gone down to the lowest on both killer and surv but ive been getting paired with higher ranked players??? i knew before this match making was bad but with all the games ive played, both killer and surv i have been paired with the wrong ranks and its been very hard to get back into the swing of looping and etc. if someone can just explain what is happening that would be great <3
p.s. my pronouns r they/them :)

Killers have separate MMR values.
You likely played against an experienced player who specialises in other Killers but is trying out Hag for the first time, so their Hag MMR specifically would be low and would match them with newer players.

I don't really fully understand it myself. But I can try to explain how it works.
Okay so basically there is a new Matchmaking system called Skill based matchmaking (SBMM). It means that every player has hidden numbers called MMR, and MMR is apparently what determines your skill level. The better you perform during a match, the higher will your MMR get. And the MMR will get lower if you underperform I think.
And because MMR determines your skill, the game will pair you up with other people with an equal MMR as you. And that's why you get paired with the "wrong" ranks. And that's also why you are the lowest rank on both sides.
The ranks have no longer any impact on matchmaking. They just show how much you've played since the last rank reset, and everyone will be set at the lowest rank every rank reset. And you will get more Bloodpoints the higher rank you are when the rank reset occurs.
I hope this makes things more clear. If you still have any questions, I might be able to answer them :)

The game now matches players up together with a hidden matchmaking rating rather than the old visible ranks. What's currently visible is their grading system where every month, you start at the bottom and go as far as you can during that month. You get bloodpoints at the end of the month to reward your efforts depending on how far you got. To be honest, the rewards aren't really worth it. It's only 250,000 for Iridescent 1.

What you see are not Ranks, those are Grades. You gain Grades via Pipping, however, you cannot depip out of a Grade you already reached (lets say you reached Gold 3 and would lose a pip with 0 Pips on Gold 3, you would not depip, you would stay at Gold 3).
Grades are not used for Matchmaking and they do not display skill, they basically show how much someone is playing.
A hidden MMR-System (Skillbased Matchmaking) is used for Matchmaking purposes, so the players might have higher Grades than you, however, they should be roughly on your level with skill.

250,000... for rank 1..... ######### were they thinking???

It makes grading meaningful? And if you do it on a survivor you get another 250k.
There isnt really a bad side to grading, i just wish we could see some of our mmr, but it would just be used for lobby dodging.

i would completely been fine with this if it wasnt for the fact even tho "ranks" arent a thing anymore im still being paired with killers that are NOT my skill level. like i went against a hag who knew exactly how to use the killer whilst my teammates didnt get the concept of if the killer picks up she can teleport to traps...

i love the idea of rewards but i would like to see maybe also shards added to the reward, when i use to play the game using the offers and playing a bit id get to 250k pretty quickly

yeah, 500 shards per grade would be far more reasonable than something I can easily earn in less than 2 hours.
