Is it normal that additional chains are spawned if a survivor breaks them through the environment?

The addon "Impaling Wire" for the Cenobite spawns another chain that targets the player if a previous chain was broken by running behind a corner. But I realized that this always happens if I use the possessed chain to chain survivors and they break free like that.
Did I miss something and the possessed chain always has that feature, the addon just makes it work for a chain hunt too, or is it a bug and there shouldn't be a summoned chain?
