Is RPD really going to stay the way it is?
The map feels super bad to play on. "Just give it time to learn the layout" I have played like 40 games on it already, have learned the layout and it still feels HORRIBLE to play on. I don't know how could you take all the criticism of Midwich and make a map that is 10 times worse to play on. Half of the killers' powers barely work on it and as survivor you either hold W or drop god pallets, it's anti-fun. Don't get me started on those 2 god windows next to the main hall, it's literally an infinite (thank god barely anyone knows how busted that set up is).
I just don't know how could you look at the entire RE franchise and take the worst possible location to make a DBD map.

RPD is pretty, but that's it.

I really hope they rebalance it, because it’s pretty miserable to play for everyone except RE megafans. But considering that Haddonfield has remained the same way for so long, I don’t think they will.

There's been some speculation that they'll section the map into different variants like Badham, where they'll have the different floors as different maps, or that they'll slice it in half. I hope they go for the idea that they have the different floors but both variants can get into the main lobby, but depending on the variant the other floor's entry points are blocked off

Hopefully.
The crying is way out of proportion, it is one map, but instead of just sucking it up when someone plays on a Map they dont like, they rush to the Forums to complain, because they played 1 game out of 30 or whatever on a Map they dont like.

This is a videogame, not some job that I have to "suck it up" things I find unfun. Of course I'm going to complain.

I don’t think people having complaints about the map is “crying”. Some people are excessive with their complaints (as always) but most people seem to have legitimate criticisms about the gameplay of the map, and interestingly those criticisms aren’t just coming from one “side” either.

One terrible map is one terrible map too many.

I quite like it actually. It has a good blend, tight corners and long corridors.
It's not bad as a Huntress. Best fun i've had is waiting under the balcony and people dropping down infront of me. Surprise mofo.

Haddonfield has stayed the same way it is so i dont see why not. I groan everytime because of the fences.

It is completely wrong to say that nobody likes the Map. I dont like it either, but I just accept that there are things in this game I dont like. I can also open 33 Forum Threads about it, but I wont do that. If I play on RPD (which is a rare occasion), I just play it. And next game, I will have another Map.
However, there were players who said they loved this Map. So saying nobody likes it is as wrong as it can be.
But it shows the mentality.. "Push it to be changed", this is happening a lot in this Forum. Mass-complaints about one thing until it gets changed and then off to the next thing to push...
2 -
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed the targeted mass complaints. It's not a new thing either, dates back to the steam forums days.

So people who find a certain thing unfun should just shut up? People who didn't like old DS, Spirit, Slinger, old Undying, instaheals, etc should just "suck it up" then? If people like RPD, let them make an omen about it. I don't like it, so I'll complain, and the high number of complaints probably show there's something wrong with it, not that people are just "pushing it to be changed".
I doubt you have almost 10k posts on this forum and "just accept that there are things in this game I dont like". That is a lie or you're just forgetting the occasions you also complain.

I wouldn't mind, i live the map.

Honestly compared to like the Game or Midwich, RPD atleast has loops and isn't just 100 safe pallets. It has just as much or more unsafe pallets as well. I understand not enjoying it but the layout is always the same and it reduces RNG factors since I always know how long things can usually be ran or how far away the nearest pallet is.

Oh no DBD is a job, a very stressful job, at least it feels that way.

One map that should’ve never been made though
1 -
Probably, im expecting they are going to rework it in some way next year.
0 -
it has to stay the same due to the licensing of the map/ it's a exact replica of the real racoon city police station from RE2 so there is nothing they could do to change it without making a dbd version of the real thing and break the licensing rules. it's the same with the other licensed maps which are. haddonfield, badham, the game, RPD, hawkins and midwich. (hawkins can be changed now however because of the loss of licensing)

Badham has like 5 variants, and Haddonfield also has RNG. They could definitely do something to make the map more bearable. At least use the suggestion someone made above and divide the map into East and West wing.

I really like RPD even though I have not played RE in my life, but I understand why so many people complain about it. It's by far the hardest map to learn to navigate properly and to be honest I don't think everyone who plays this game has enough time to learn a single map.

Personally, I think the aesthetic of RPD is awesome but it just doesn't belong in DBD. If BHVR won't remove the map, I think they should at least rework it. I don't give a crap if the map is accurate to RE2, I just want it to be balanced and fun to play on.

I almost always agree with your sentiments on these forums, but this time I find myself in disagreement. This map is horribly designed for Dead by Daylight unlike any other map before it. Even as much complaint Haddonfield gets, RPD is in an entire category of its own. It should have never made its way into the game, and because it's licensed there probably isn't enough wiggle room to modify it.
I legitimately only burn this map offering as survivor when I am frustrated with my teammates from the prior match. I cannot tell you how many times I have gone from first phase to struggle, or even death on this map - with Kindred equipped. It's outrageous.

I'm not sure if they are really not allowed to change maps. Both Badham and The Game got reworked already, afterall. They could have met an agreement with the license holders, or that might be included in the contract.

The difference here is that RPD is a specific building set within another video game's world (for this reason we'll almost undoubtedly never see Midwhich changed either - also based on another video game). Springwood and The Game aren't like that - they are based on films where you just get shots of various places. It's up to your imagination mostly as to what the whole place could look like. Hope that makes sense.

What I don't get in RPD is: they implemented a few visual changes caused by the entity, so it's not an exact replica in that regard. What was stopping them from making layout changes for gameplay too? Seriously, Midwich got criticized a lot on release, but then people started to learn how to navigate through its shortcuts. Why doesn't RPD has any shortcuts? A hole in the second floor, a breakable wall connecting corridors, anything to make it less painful to play at?

That's true, but I'm not sure if that affects license rules or if there is any demand for the map to be as faithful to the original as possible. Even though we cannot see Gideon Meat Packing Plant's whole layout on the Saw films, we know one thing: the bathroom from the first movie wasn't in it, since its first appearance was in Saw III. That didn't stop the devs from changing the bathroom to look even more like the one from the movie, which includes even one of the characters' corpse.

I don’t see the map ever getting changes because it’s rare to spawn there without the map offerings.

People aren't just complaining to complain in this instance. The map has a lot of performance problems and technical issues. It's entirely to dark in some spots where even scratch marks stop functioning correctly and you can't see hooks, survivors, your own hands, etc. Then there is the issue of the map tanking a lot of people's framerates even on low settings. There are a lot of dead ends that while makes senses in a explorative survival horror setting, absolutely messes with both survivors and killers in DBD. It's a beautifully crafted map, but when 9 outta 10 matches on it specifically are laggy, disorienting, and crippling in terms of using your power or finding objectives people are going to complain and rightly so.

They need to close a lot of unnecesary doorways, add a few new ones and simple as that the map can be enjoyable. But i don't think it will get a change if any.

I had a hard time patroling the exit gates after I closed the hatch. Kept getting lost in the map and the survivor got out. Still got a 3k but man lol.

RPD is my favorite indoor map and I hope they don't change it.
Splitting it in two would be hell for Survivors. Gens would be insanely close together and most of the Balanced Landing spots would be gone.
It would turn into two very small versions of Azarovs, with clusters of gens on each side and a narrow choke point in the middle. Especially for the 2nd floor where there is only a narrow bridge connecting east and west wings.
0 -
Yeah the map is very labyrinthine but because doorways placements are not correct and there are too many. Behaviour wanted to "open" the map for dbd gameplay but they end up making a mess, almost every room connect to each other with more than one doorway even three in some rooms which is completely unnecesary and makes most rooms useless background.
So many things could be done better in the RE dlc but they rushed it instead of delivering a proper dlc. Look at Jill for example.. she gets her face bugged after every patch. They care little about the franchise and/or quality sadly.

RPD is #########.
Pretty #########.

Quick fix little to no development. Make a west wing rpd and an east wing rpd. Simple relatively easy. Keep the middle area but one side is boarded up. Your welcome! Won't fix the loops but at least both sides aren't losing to distance and interest.

What I find funny is that the map is so ridiculously big, that all one has to do is control one side of the map while ignoring the other. The very fact that such a tactic works highlights just how busted the map size is.

Raccoon City is a steaming turd. The absolute worst. Nothing touches it in terms of turdality.

I’m still trying to memorize the gen locations.

I find myself getting lost when trying to run to rescue a hooked survivor. It's a calamity.
1 -
Right it’s infuriating.
0 -
I mean... if you take a look at Haddonfield...

To be fair over the years haven't they patched up bullshit window areas
Obviously some still exist but yeah

Azarovs and Sanctum of Wrath play the same way. Killer has to control 1 side of the map and use the middle choke point to catch survivors. RPD would be too small if they split it in two.
1 -
Sanctum is just azarovs but Japanese lol
2 -
As survivor I prefer Azarovs because at least the middle has some strong tiles.
The middle of Sanctum is basically just one big dead zone

I dont mind it to much mostly because I very, very rarely play a game where the other team isn't as confused as me. Makes the game a little longer since both survivors and killer have a bit of breathing room.
