Do Flashlights Carriers Have a Bad Stigma Attached?

Personally, whenever I use a flashlight- it’s mainly for defense at pallets. I’m not an ambulance chaser (players who run behind the killer in chase trying to get a flashlight save). I noticed there were quite a few times whenever I entered a lobby with a flashlight equipped, immediately after someone would leave… Any survivors do this intentionally? Do you leave when you see someone with a flashlight and automatically assume toxic? If so, why?

Flashlights are by far the worst items in the game and most players can barely even use them so it makes sense why people would leave

    Teammate with flashlight = thrower

Blinding at pallets is actually the worst thing you can do because you lose distance so yeah after the flashlights nerf bringing one is just for trolling

Those survivors probably had enough of people who watched too many youtubers that constantly follow the killers begging to get chased then do flashlight fails.

If you want a higher chance to win you dodge lobbies where your teammates have flashlights, so many of them waste precious time that could be used m1ing a gen.

I love survivors who blind me at pallets. I use headphones so I can always track their footsteps. Always free hits.

Interesting… I have more positive experiences with flash lighting at a pallet than negative. They’re definitely not all winning plays, but they tend to help me. Especially if I’m not injured and run past them immediately after.

So I’m surprised to see the responses in here, confirming what I feared- flashlights are usually associated with bad players. Wow. My mind is actually blown rn. That kind of sucks too, that it has come to this. Too many influenced kids trying to be the next Ayrun.

‘I’ll start paying more attention to those who bring them and see if the stereotype is legit.

I guess most killers don't notice how you can still track the survivor through footsteps and groans of pain (without Iron Will), so it works most of the time. But yeah flashlights are definitely the worst item in the game right now and a lot of people that bring them are trying to be the next Ayrun like you said. As a solo player I always dread when I see some neon colouring survivor with a flashlight.

Blinding a killer after a pallet drop if what makes Lightborn a good perk, bc basically is a free hit. You should definetly gain distance after a drop.

Worse than green keys, lol? I never see those. Personally I don’t use em either.

A flashlight gives me the feeling that they are trolling or they are going to be useless by running around and annoying the killer.

I don't see that the flashlights are effective against players who know how to ignore them, so i prefer to play with teamates who brought a map or medkit.

As a survivor I don't really care because it's solo queue, flashlight or not there is a 99% chance you are a potato.

As a killer I love people bringing flashlights because there is a good chance they will run around doing nothing trying to get my attention or get a save (and of course fail).

Yeah worse then a green key with addons

A green key without addons is literally no item so that does not really count

Depends on the survivor who's carrying it,I'm not gonna see a Nea with a flashlight the same as a Jane with one.

Interesting. Yea i noticed Neas have a bad rap. Seems like most of the OG cast are outcasts now lol.

Keys at least have good addons. Blood Amber + Built to Last is going to be really solid on the next patch.

I normally dont bring them but i was doing a challenge that required one. I swear for those 6 matches the killers were gunning for me. I only used it at pallets. I cant time it for a save. I think because some players use flashlights to click bait the killers attention, the item has a lot of hate attached to it.

Yea i don’t do that. So stupid. Especially in 2021. I hate when I’m killer and someone is doing that to me. I usually just ignore them as long as I can. I once had someone ragequit because I wouldn’t chase them after all that flashlight clicking. I just kept walking past them, while they danced in the middle of the map- as I went back and forth chasing his teammates on Suffocation Pit. That felt so good. Bastard didn’t even touch one gen for 8 mins smh. He was probably some YouTuber looking for content lmao.

I don't get why everyone goes mad over flashlight users. If you hate it so much then there is lightborn and its great.

If some schmuck is following you around clicking at you then they are providing free pressure for you by not doing the objective, you don't have to chase that person they are basically chasing themselves.

edit. Yes it is obnoxious and thematically bad and I'm not a fan of it because my goal when playing DBD is to have a survival horror experience not an esports loopy chase tag experience, its hard to get that when survivors are all obnoxious and in your face. This problem is often solved by lightborn and I run it a lot.

Haha ha I have tried about 20 times to use a flashlight. Ended up blinding my teammates. Never got a killer even once.

I love flashlights either they help me to get away or if someone is downed near me to flashlight save and they're fun I don't see any other item being fun tbh medkit? Who needs those? There's multiple perks and team that can heal you, toolbox? Useless keys? Big no etc etc

  • Yes because usually they are the type of people who just want to annoy the killer. I think there's only like 2 powers that are affected by flashlight so there's no point of bringing it just for that.

god i love flash lights and i would hate to see them go i once got a 17 flash light chain until it ran out on a demogorgon (who doesn't even have eyes) if they remove flashlights how will we flashlight save? what's the point of lightborn? how will you get rid of hags traps? how will you sunburn wraith/nurse? also just face a wall when picking up and if there are none pretend your going to pick up then turn around the other way and pick up or look around again and maybe you will catch somebody off guard

The way I see it there's three kinds of flashlight players

    • The Clickers - these guys bring flashlights purely to click at the killer and blind them at pallets. They have no intention of trying to get saves. They also do the whole '2 man swf locker' thing that has no counterplay.
    • The Babysitters - these guys bring flashlights every game and will neglect doing gens to babysit the person being chased and will attempt to flashlight save them only to get baited and slugged basically every time.
    • The Points guy - these guys bring flashlights mostly to get extra boldness points, typically not trying to be toxic. They also bring flashlights in case they face a killer that's countered by them (Hag, Nemesis, Wraith). Will go for saves if an opportunity arrives but won't try to force it
  • KerJuice
    KerJuice Member Posts: 1,907

Yea I’m the points guy, so it feels bad when I load into a lobby only to have someone leave immediately after, in fear that I won’t be a team player.

  • Brokenbones
    Brokenbones Member Posts: 5,169

Survivors who do the whole babysitting thing can unironically cost their entire team the game

The killer goes from having one down about to be hooked, to two slugs.

I despise people who play babysitter with flashlights

Likewise. I call them Ambulance Chasers. The could be on gens.
