What is your definition of "Toxic"
Just a question that I had in mind.

Nothing in game is toxic to me unless it's cheating.
End game chat is about it for me.
10 -
Abuse in endgame chat. Slurs, threats of bodily harm, e.t.c.. Anything that happens in-game from either side is only bm ("being rude/mean"), not toxicity!
6 -
Outright cheating and end game chat that gets out of hand.
3 -
teabagging flashlight flickering. pointing. camping. tunneling. basically being an ass hole on purpose like i do every game
2 -
usually to anger the other team
1 -
Toxic in my book is anything that's being done that doesn't benefit the gameplay in anyway. Things such as letting all the slugged survivors bleed out, flashlight spamming, teabagging, spamming over pallets/lockers or toxic end game chat.
Also I think I might know you, if we've played on Overwatch before cause you have the same gamertag but if not then ignore me 😂
9 -
This. I would add face camping to that list too(Not proxy camping. Face camping.)
1 -
There is no my definition. There is definition everyone should know and stop imagining something else.
6 -
Nothing that happens in the match is toxic.
0 -
That is vague though... because with that definition you could say using a Haddonfield/RPD offering is toxic
2 -
Hacking or being a dick in the chat after. Anything during the game doable with the ingame mechanics isn’t toxic
1 -
The only thing i think is truly toxic is verbal abuse in end-game chat. Anything else is just gameplay.
6 -
Anything I don't like or that causes me to lose.
3 -
Bringing offering isn't toxic. U play the game according to it's rules and don't do any harmful things. While, for example, sandbagging your teammate to help killer catch him or just block him in corners is toxic.
0 -
Anything that is purposefully intended to upset someone or ruin another person's experience with the game.
5 -
Anything that is done with the sole purpouse of annoying the other side.
7 -
Abusive chats and cheating
1 -
Trying to make someone feel bad on purpose.
4 -
When the killer does not let me escape and when the survivors do not let me kill them.
0 -
For me just hackers & some post game messages though I don't play on steam much so I don't have actual post game chat & I'd turn it off if I did.
Players on BOTH sides can & do often intentionally do things purely to anger, annoy or upset the other side but even though I don't see the point in it none of it really triggers me.
0 -
I see your system of a down and raise you this
0 -
That’s because Haddonfield is a toxic map. 😂
0 -
Normally it is someone who intentionally causes harm and long-term happiness, by definition.
So deliberately bullying a player, even though the trial is won (killer not hooking the last, fallen survivor and forcing them to bleed out, or survivors at an open gate clicking and teabagging a Trapper). Note that this is different to using teabagging to distract a killer to help the team, or a killer slugging survivors because the opportunity is presented.
It's also salty endgame chat. Now, there are those who think people who get upset by this need to be stronger, but that way of thinking is flawed, unempathic and lazy, because it is unknown what the receiving individual is going through; parents splitting up, for example. Many other things too besides.
Basically, if someone is intentionally doing something to make another unhappy and hurt, then they're toxic.
1 -
A t bagging survivor with a clicky clicky flashlight and a killer who hit you non stop on hook.
To be prescise its not the camping i find toxic but the action to hit a hook survivor non stop
0 -
Blocking a hook. I see that as being more disrespectful than anything else because I do not tunnel or camp, so when I get a down - I deserve my hook. It's happening in every single game now.
Flashlights isn't a big deal, there's a perk counter. It's annoying when it's spammed by multiple survivors at once when no one needs saved.
Teabagging, imo, is usually a bad survivor that got butthurt they was on death hook or they was mad the killer gave them a challenge. No offense taken anymore.
But blocking my hook gives me the right to bust a face on the hook repeatedly.
0 -
Intentionally trying to annoy or anger the other guy. There's no toxic perks or add-ons. Just people who abuse strong perks to have more control over the other person. Tbagging, flashlight clicking, and hitting on hook are also toxic, and there's no mental gymnastics that sufficiently justify them as not being toxic.
3 -
But what if I run a perk specifically to annoy or anger the other guy. Intentionally...
0 -
The developers and the direction they are taking the game. Waiting for VHS to come out.
0 -
Anything that doesn't bring any benefit to the gameplay except to only annoy the other team :)
1 -
IMO, it comes down to showing contempt for the people you're playing with, either while you're in the game, or when you're interacting with the larger community around it. If we want the community to be healthy, then the norm has to be that we treat each other with respect. Toxic people are working against that.
0 -
What if I bring an offering to purposefully annoy the other players? Is that toxic?
This is why the definition is vague, because you can definitely be toxic and still play within the rules of the game. Note that "outside the rules of the game" isn't even part of the definition you posted, it's something you added to it because it's your definition.
1 -
Toxic - acting in such a manner as to annoy, frustrate, demean or otherwise troll another player, usually in a manner outside of standard game mechanics. It's also very much determined by context, and intent.
Teabagging and flashing a killer to get him to chase you? Fine. Just don't complain when I tunnel you.
Teabagging and flashing a killer from the exit gates after you just stomped him in your SWF group? Toxic.
Hiding to avoid a pursuit? Fine.
Playing hide and seek with the killer after you've done 4 gens to stall the game out for half an hour? Toxic.
2 -
I think there's a difference between intentions and actions, some people could get labeled as toxic while their intentions are completely innocent, others can act in a "legal" way while having toxic intentions.
In general I do not considers most actions in game to be purposely toxic, like perks or tbagging or facecamping, what is toxic to me is more related to the behavior of people outside the game, in the postgame chat for example.
Just to add because I forgot, of course some behaviors that actively break game rules can be toxic, mine was more of a general answer.
2 -
If u purposely annoy someone in game by doing something annoying like sandbagging, it's toxic. If u bring offering or perk or whatever and someone is getting mad because suddenly u play the game it's stupid.
U can't call people being toxic if they bring perks or offering u don't like.
0 -
But I'm bringing the offering to annoy them, and they're annoyed. That's toxic, according to the definition you posted.
Your definition simply excludes things that are within the boundaries of the rules. That was my point, that there is no "one definition to rule them all", there are many definitions of what "toxic" means.
0 -
They are annoyed because u play the game? If i bring RPD offering I'm toxic? Mb i enjoy it/ mb i want to test some things out? If i bring killer/survivor i enjoy playing I'm toxic? ######### logic is this?
Those who restrict others from playing game the way it is intended are actually toxic. Sandbagging is toxic, intentionally failing every skill check while other guy is trying to fix gen is toxic. But not the map offerings.
0 -
Again:
That was my point, that there is no "one definition to rule them all", there are many definitions of what "toxic" means.
I'm not here to argue about your definition, just to point out that there is no "one true definition". Your definition isn't even the one you posted.
1 -
I honestly think that you are just here to argue, period :).
Don't worry, I do it too.
0 -
I'm not, no, but I also don't think I can learn anything by only hanging around people whose opinions I already agree with where one person says something and everyone else says "I agree".
0 -
Loosely defined, toxicity is behavior that kills a community.
Ask yourself, would you behave this way in real life? Or do you only do this because you have the protection of anonymity. If you're playing, say texas hold-em poker, with a group of people, and one person:
- constantly gloats after winning a hand.
- Tells everyone else at the table that they suck and should get good.
- Complains when they lose, and accuses other players of having no talent.
- Makes everyone wait 2 minutes before revealing their winning hand.
and exhibits just bad manners in general, do you think that person will have many people inviting them back to play poker?
3 -
I think something is toxic if a player is going out of there way to be a jerk and have the intention of ruining other players games. Also cheating or hacking is pretty bad
0 -
The real life definition really doesn't apply to me because I am nicer online than I am irl.
That being said, your example is less toxic and more whiny beta syndrome.
0 -
I can respect someone who is an ahole in real life, but owns it. What bothers me is when people want to be aholes and have people treat them like they are good people lol.
The reason why I call that behavior toxic is because it creates an atmosphere where people don't want to be around you. Whiny beta people are not fun to be around (at least not for me). We have a finite time on this Earth, why spend it around people that kill your vibe?

Truly, I have never seen toxic in the game in 300 hours. Some killers hit me on the hook but they are wasting time. Killers block me in corners but I feel like that was my fault. I once chased Cheryl Mason the entire game and finally hooked her while everyone else escaped. I feel bad about that though. But I am playing on the Nintendo so no nasty chat afterwards. My old girlfriend is toxic...

This sums it up for me.
It can be Survivor to Killer, Killer to Survivor, or even Survivor to Survivor - had a situation recently on The Game vs Spirit, I found a glowing totem which I cleansed and it happened to be Haunted Ground. One of my teammates then got downed nearby, which he then decided to blame on me (sent me a sarcastic "Thanks broooooooooooooo" message) - I found dull totem a bit later in the game tucked in a corner and he deliberately blocked me in until the Spirit came. A little later, two of the team were hooked in the basement and I went down for the rescue and unhooked them both, but got downed and hooked myself and no one bothered to unhook me. He sent me another message along the lines of "me and my dudes decided that we wouldn't unhook you".
To me that's just plain trash. Not only blaming someone for your failure, but then deliberately trolling them, and throwing the game to spite them - that's toxic behaviour. They all died soon after anyway. To be honest, I pity this type of person since their lives must be so incredibly sad and empty as to derive joy from ruining someone else's videogame. I can't imagine what level of pathetic you have to be to do that.
1 -
Repeated flashlight clicking, face-camping/proxy camping for the sake of it, bleeding out the survivors, bodyblocking, and the one that annoys me the most, Head On abuse.
How does one abuse a perk like Head On? Quite simple, really. Bait chooses a loop that contains a locker, survivor with head on hides in that locker before chase, mid-chase hits you with head on.
1 -
Directly insulting someone without any patience.
0 -
People who complain about how others play the game. So happy that no one can tell me what they think about how I play.
0 -
Purposefully trying to ruin the experience of others for no real benefit to either party, or doing so specifically for one specific person.
1 -
Something that a player does specifically and only to annoy the other players. This does not include valid actions that cause annoyances as a side effect.
