Are you happy that Halloween events are moving away from the Blight theme?

If I recall correctly the developers have stated that they are moving away from Blight-themed Halloween events. The recent leaks suggest the only Blight-related parts of this Halloween event will be skins. Did you like the Blight-themed events more, or are you happy that the developers are moving away from them?

I want to see blighted deathslinger so much because they're usually very cool and all his skins sucks but since he's not fun to play in new patch it doesn't matter

I liked it for it's lore, but we explored it enough imo. I'd be fine if we got more info on Blight but I really don't want to spend another Halloween on it.

I started playing DbD October 2018 because of the Blight event. It's always been my favorite thing about DbD. Expanding it to be more than what it started as, bringing in Blighted pumpkins and stuff, that would've been cool. The Blight theme disappearing altogether is a huge disappointment.

Blight theme's been done. Let's see something new and creative instead of the same rehashed fluoro orange pus.

I like the blight themes. I like my oozing costumes, I liked the pustula atmosphere - and while yes, I'm fine with whatever direction it goes, my preference would have been to stick with blight themes with some more innovative gameplay for the event mechanics.

I'm fortunate enough to have been able to play through every single halloween event there ever was in DBD- so yes, I do remember the All Hallows Eve event which came before the Blight was ever a thing.

And yes, I absolutely adored that event although it would be extremely simple by today's standards for the game. The lobby in the main menu was decorated with in Halloween festivities: a sickly green fog covered the campfire, the gleeful orange glow of smiling pumpkins and candles lit the scene, and gravestones littered the background with inside jokes / references to the developers were engraved into them. The Will-O-Wisp Flashlights and All Hallows Eve Lunchbox were introduced in this event, and Nurse got her Sally O'Lantern headpiece too, which is still creepy if you stare into the vacant orange eyes for too long.

My favorite thing from this event however, was the music: the sharp twang of the strings and the piercing notes of a piano cut clear and crisp through the camp shrouded in night. Producing a fantastically festive atmosphere, that let you know right away as soon as you booted up the game: It's Spooky Season.

Although newer players will likely recognize this track as the background music for Mikaela Reids reveal trailer in "Hour of the Witch" which is fitting given both the season and the character herself.

But as great as these humble beginnings for the halloween events were, the dev team raised the bar significantly with the very first Hallowed Blight Event. Most certainly and without a doubt the greatest halloween event in all of Dead By Daylight history. Redecorating the lobby with even greater zeal than the year previous, an amazing instrumental track that combined the creepiness of halloween and the mysteries of the Blight, a secondary objective that actually changed up the pace of gameplay with amazingly gross visceral cankers that spluttered out into vials of nectar which players had to fill to earn the original Blight cosmetics- some of the most well done cosmetics of all time and still hold up today. Creatively exaggerating the individual features and unique characteristics of each killer, making them more menacing and grotesque than they were before, and serving to make them less recognizably human- detaching them from their former lives and separating them from their backstories as they were forced deeper into the depths of their own monstrosity.

The blight was amazing, and its unfortunate not everybody recognized it at the time because all of the complaints the devs got about the event caused a kneejerk reaction which would cause the downfall and slow degradation of the Blight events, and a stripping away of the things which made them cool and unique. In the exact same way a mother may overreact when when her child trips and scrapes their knee, causing that child to lose the privileges of whatever it was they were having fun with because of a minor injury.

It's mind boggling that the Blight events actually did become worse and worse events as time went on and each one was poorer in quality than the last. The halloween events becoming reduced to a "do these reskinned generators" event, which is synonymous with the uninspired cheeky events we got during the Summer- these events hardly contribute anything to the season, they didn't innovate on gameplay or create anything interesting for players outside of a speed boost add-on for killers and survivors- tying the events into the archives was a mistake, the music was either toned down or changed completely to something that wasn't worth remembering (not to mention drowned out by the unique themes of every killer in Killer Select), the decorations for the lobby were sparse and mundane at best, and UGH.

    Ugh.

Which is why I wish they would have done a fourth blight event. One that would be a worthy send off for what was originally (for all its faults) a fun and creative event in its inception. That would be worth remembering by the community, and that new players could enjoy in Modern DBD without only hearing about it anecdotally from veterans.

Whatever it is that they plan to do now, one can only hope they actually do it right.

I always thought the blighted cosmetics were ugly as hell, or more specifically, the glowing goo bits of it.

If the glowing entity goo was replaced with blood or something I would like those cosmetics a lot more.

I like it because of its lore. Every year these pus flowers appear in the entity’s realm and has to get rid of them each and every year because it’s the entity’s only know weakness. It wouldn’t match the lore if it was “these flowers appear every year but now they don’t for some random reason.” That isn’t good and if it’s the only thing in the realm that gives us more knowledge on the entity because these flowers are it’s only know weakness and if it just stops then what’s gonna weaken it now. It’s like saying that the only way to defeat a boss is to throw bombs at it and then halfway through the battle the game got rid of bombs, then what are you gonna do. From a lore standpoint the blighted season needs to stay because it’s the only way we know how to kill the entity. (From a cosmetic stand point you can get rid of it but the blighted skins look really cool)

As @Seiko300 masterfully pointed out, DBD had a Halloween event way before the Blight theme existed. The one and only:

And this event has a very special meaning to me, despite the fact that I wasn't even here at the time.

This event not only had the best theme and the best lobby atmosphere DBD has ever know, but it was also during that event that Freddy released. Back then, The Nightmare was on his best state ever, and no one is as devoted to this killer as I am. The way my favorite killer shined back then means a lot to me.

I am not sure if the next Halloween event will be as good as the All Hallows' Eve was, but it certainly has the potential to be. And if this happens, then I will return to the Fog temporarily in order to play it.

As long as the release the rest of the blight skins and the events don't suck then I don't mind.

As long as the future events are fun to play. The Blight arc was really cool though, and for sure impacted DBD's already interesting lore.
