Just experienced something that made me come to a realization (TLDR at the bottom)

I'm back playing after almost a month break since MMR came out. I'm trying a variety of killers because they broke Blight's collisions and he feels awful to play.

I was playing Nemi, which I don't use too much, and I chase this survivor. This survivor, made interesting plays, they used windows amazingly, they made right read after, after right read and it was super fun to chase them. Obviously, the game ended as fast as usual, but I was actually going against a survivor that properly outplayed me, never mind the stupid gens. It genuinely felt like my skill against theirs, and mine was lagging behind, and whenever I did occasionally get that survivor it felt super satisfying.

At the end they tbagged me at the gates which, eh shame on them, but how would they know I was chasing them out of fun and not out of spite, right?

Anyways, so since I started playing with SBMM, I've been playing more or less like a zombie. If 3 gens pop instantly and survivors stall with bullshit, I just shut off my brain, tunnel a survivor, they either escape or they don't who cares. And I only really try to play the game properly when the game goes at a decent pace, that's when matches are usually fun, I get to use my power, go for chases, not tunnel anyone, etc.

At some point I began to doubt myself. I was like: am I one of those killer mains that only likes ez matches and just complains when it doesn't go my way?

Now I realize I am a fool for even thinking that in the first place. No, the problem is that survivors seldom actually have to outplay you to win the game. When you go for one chase, you hit a couple of survivors, get a hook and 3 gens pop, nobody outplayed you, they held M1 on a thing for a bit, and now they have all of their second chances stacked to stall you no matter how much you outplay them, unless you play near perfect, while again, they hold M1 on a thing. Even if they stall you for some time, if they're just pre-throwing pallets and holding W, they're not outplaying you either...It feels extremely unfair. However, when I was actually in chase all match with an opponent that was also using their brains, interacting with me, actually outplaying me, it was engaging and fun.

That's my realization. This game feels terrible because most of the time, one side doesn't have to outplay the other at all, they just use the game's bullshit to get an advantage. But when you're actually facing an opponent that outplays you, it can still be incredibly engaging and fun, even if you lose the game. Unfortunately, the game has a lot more stuff survivors can take advantage of and it's wildly imbalanced in their favor when they know how to play, but killer isn't free of their share of bullshit.

______________________________________________

TLDR: This is a game where people seldom outplay each other, instead they just use poorly designed bullshit to their advantage. More so on the survivor side, but killer has it too. Game is way more fun when there's interaction between players and they actually have to use their brains and outplay each other, even if you lose. At least imo.

This is the same way I feel about playing as killer lately and my matches are exactly as you described. There is quite a bit of bullshit in the game that remains patch after patch while nerfs and buffs are applied around it.

Aye, there's a lot of structures in this game that have no business being as safe as they are. The i loop in Mcmillan and Farm is an example. My personal most hated structure is the long wall jungle gym. I don't think that variant of jungle gym should exist full stop. It is, indeed another example of a structure where survivors don't really have to outplay you, they don't make any reads, they don't really show their skill in any meaningful way. M1 killers have it rough against that. The W meta is the main reason I don't play M1 killers too much.

Just now, I got a match where a Cheryl fell for every, single mindgame except for ONE, yet she was able to stall me for minutes, just because she had second chance Jpegs equipped, and because her teammates bodyblocked me several times once they realized I was tunneling her (which I was doing precisely because she used UB into SG to escape a hook state and it annoyed the ######### out of me). They all died though, because sometimes, just sometimes, the fact they can't outplay you actually matters in your favor.

This is what I mean. That survivor had absolutely no right stalling me for as long as she did. She made ONE good read. Everything else was bullshit.

That is how the majority of games in DBD play out, and it's so tiring. I wish DBD focused on player skill vs player skill, not who managed to equip the shiniest, bullshittiest Jpegs.
