Can you open a gate with deep wound?

I think i may have just encountered a subtle hacker. 2 players were in endgame when the final generator was completed, one got deep wounded by a zombie, so i decided to chase the unhooker who just came up the stairs on The Game. From my knowledge, i thought that the deep wound timer is 20 seconds, and opening the exit gate is 20 seconds, so it's impossible for that player to escape without mending, but they did. This player did not have wake up, and no one else had leader. Am i missing something or was this user cheating?

Are you sure the gate didn't already have progress on it?

Wait no, i mean yes i am sure the other person didn't make any progress on the gate.

Nope, they had DH, DS, Iron Will and BT, with a commodious toolbox and the yellow speed add-on

Are you sure they didn't open the gate and go down from deep wound as the door opened? They could do that but crawl out and escape if you're not right there.
If you're sure they didn't go down, then given that their perks were DH, DS, Iron Will, and BT, and no one else had Leader, I can't think of anything else.
(Also, if they opened the door, even if they went down for doing it, you wouldn't have gotten them anyways since they had DS.)
