Having more fun not giving a crap about hooks.
Had a game a week ago where all I did was down people for a challenge and didn't bother hooking because I just didn't care about winning, I just wanted my challenge/daily and well, I found the game so much more enjoyable as a killer if I just literally never hooked anyone.
I didn't have to worry about people flashlight saving since I was never picking anyone up.
I didn't have to worry about making it to a gen in time because I wasn't taking like 20-30 seconds picking someone up and carrying them to the hook while being safe about flashlights/pallet saves.
You don't realize just how much time you spend picking someone up and taking them over to a hook till you just stop doing it and it gives you so much more pressure on gens just slugging everyone over and over again.
So I started doing this playstyle game after game... Survivors absolutely hated me, but honestly who cares? My fun isn't thought of when all my B tier killers got nerfed (Deathslinger/Wraith) why should I care about other people's fun?
Had the most fun doing this playstyle with Leatherface and Blight... Just never letting up, slugging people to death till everyone is slugged or they bleed out from being on the ground so much. If I slug all 4 or I feel a little mercy then I'll hook but otherwise have fun on the ground, you'll be there a while.
Use mostly perks that help you in chase, obviously don't use pop since we aren't really hooking. Corrupt is a nice slowdown for the early game till you start finding people and if you want another slowdown go dead lock but other than that just go chase perks (depending on killer) like save the best for last, bamboozle, etc.
So anyone frustrated with the current Killer gameplay that is just a stressful mess, try this playstyle. Even if you lose you'll still generally have fun because all you will do is chase all game and survivors don't know what to do usually when you aren't constantly using up time hooking people. They have to get off gens to pick people up, meanwhile you are headed to them straight after just downing that person.

Best part you don't have to kill them. The salt does it for you!
7 -
Yup, had a game last night where I let all 4 escape and they still raged after the game.
I learned my lesson, let them bleed out next time. XD

You make a good point regarding nurfs not being fun for you (killers) so why should you worry about fun for your opponents. I do agree.
Unless something is broken, there's no need to fix it. They ruined Billy and Deathslinger for no reason at all, fixing for the sake of it. It's like scalped topknot, nobody moaned about it, its not broken, yet they halved it, but why? No gain nurfing addons apart from just annoying players that enjoy them.

People support the Deathslinger nerf even though they know it kills the character, so they obviously don't care about the Killers fun only their own. So yeah, give them what they want. Play meta killers and slug them to Death.

Yeah it is fun to do this. Surprising how often you end up with a 4K at 5 gens doing this as well. It's good to do just to get an idea of when it is good to slug.
It is good for trolling as well, because people have to sit through your game and not get many points because of no hooks lol. Whereas if you play basement bubba people are onto that by now and just won't give salt in the chat.

I had 2 Doctor games in a row on Dead Dawg, my favorite map, where I only got 1 hook before I lost. The issue? I needed a 4k for a tome challenge using Doctor. I just hard slugged because I lacked the confidence to go for 12 hooks and they were all bleeding out with only one gen completed. No regression either. I don't have ruin on my Doctor, he is only leveled for Monitor and Abuse on Micheal.
Anyways, I enjoy it quite a bit. Surprised at how efficient it was.
2 -
Yup, by the time you hook your first survivor 2 to 3 gens can pop.
Who needs wthat noise? Down that little ######### and go slug his friends instead.

I really wish Pyramid Head's cages weren't linked to Torment Trails. Especially after the "can't see the cages" nerf. He would be FAR more fun (and more flavorful) if he could just send survivors to cages every time. You lose out on BBQ, but they lose out on the Perma-crutches of BT and DS, so that's a fair trade in my mind.
1 -
Same, it's why I like playing Pyramid Head but only if I can get them to step in my trail.
0 -
lol bruh you don't "lose out on BBQ" as you'd just not run it. Besides, BBQ is not even the strongest perk anyway, a lot of people run it for blood points. Everyone else will be running hook based perks because every other Killer is built around hooks. I think PH would be too strong as this efficiency bonus he would get for caging every time would be HUGE.
0 -
Not to mention pop would be useless, so no BBQ or Pop.
But it would def be strong not having to carry mofo's to hooks... It's just so annoying to do and wastes so much time you don't have

Considering he has zero mobility boosts, his shockwave is only useable if survivors lock themselves into animations, and his torment trails:
- slow him to use and take too long to set up
- can't be placed anywhere you'd want to put them (hooks, gens, doors, stairs, exits
- can be completely avoided by crouch-walking for 1 second
- have hard caps on how many you can set
- fade away after a little over a minute
- make a ton of noise, alerting all nearby survivors
- do not harm, hinder, or otherwise inconvenience survivors, and only alert him for 3 seconds
- are completely under the control of the survivors
- are double removed from the survivor team with every cage
... he's basically just an M1 killer. You spend 99% of the game moving forward and swinging with your default attack. Using cages wouldn't make him OP. It would encourage survivors to take some SLIGHT variation in the [Borrowed Time, Decisive Strike, Dead Hard, Iron Will] meta.
1 -
Not going to lie, Pyramid Head does generally pretty much turn into a M1 killer 90% if the match. His M2 is pretty much an after thought and loses you distance more than it helps most of the time.
So yeah, I agree with that a lot. If it wasn't for his cages he's be ######### awful.
0 -
When you put it this way, yeah his power sounds pretty bad.
But still, an M1 killer that never has to hook still practically has 2 minutes free time compared to a "normal" M1 Killer, if there is such a thing. Feels strong to me.
Don't get me wrong though, I already think survivors are too strong, and hooking (and most things as Killer) are too slow, but feels like hooking in general should be removed, rather than on one Killer.

I have started playing like this since MMR. I get my 4 BBQ stacks and the rest of the game usually consists of slugging people around, don't really care if they escape or not. Good thing it improves my match quality a ton because the MMR considers I'm doing badly lmao.

I personally feel like every killer's power should have at least ONE aspect to it that breaks the core rules of the game that all the other killers have to abide by. Huntress can hit survivors across the map, while everyone else has to get close. Nurse can ignore walls and barriers. Legion and fast vault. Doctor gets to know exactly where people are hiding. The Chainsaw boys can auto-down people with one hit. Etc.
PH's big claim to fame was "hit people through walls." Except they put layer upon layer of nerfs on that to the point there it's only actually used at windows and pallets, where survivors get locked into animations (and thusly can't take 0.05 seconds to move SLIGHTLY to the right or left). Being able to skip the whole "pick up and carry to hook" phase would be a fine spot for PH to break the rules, in my opinion. And the cages are WAY more Silent Hill than the hooks. It fits his flavor and is a minor mobility increase (which he desperately needs).
1 -
Yeah but if we're comparing the power level of Legion's fast vault (which doesn't add much to his kit given his potential in chase is already bad), and having instant hooks from any point on the map, it's not much of a comparison.
Same with Doctor who you also mentioned, you can find where people are hiding, IF they're within range, and IF you're off cooldown which means you can do it maybe 4x a game.
Whilst I like the idea of removing hooks, and I like the idea of Killers being strong and changing the rules of the game in unique ways, but in the context of the other Killers as they currently exist, I think PH would be pretty dang strong with this change.

I know where you are coming from.
Killers seem to be expected to be held to a sort of gentleman's code within the game, while survivors can do what ever cheesy, exploitative thing they want.
And BHVR seem to be completely behind this double standard, hence the penalty for camping and the new 'anti camping' system which will undoubtably be a massive net buff to survivors, and turn any hook into a 'killer free' safe zone.
2 -
Tbh I didn't know they were adding a camping penalty, so even more reason to slug people and bleed them out then LOL
1 -
There's already a penalty - you take a pretty big BP hit for even being in proximity of a hook for any length of time. Savvy survivors will actually abuse this and try to lead you close to, or around hooks so that you either have to let them go or lose 5-10k BP.
Apparently though, this isn't enough and they said that they have something else on the way that will punish 'camping' (i.e. being within a large, undefined radius from any hooked survivor) even more harshly.
1 -
Your post says a lot to the killers who camp the hook, that you had more fun in the chase without camping and still got kills. I bet they are surprised you did not get gen rushed because you did hook and stand there.
I've been saying this for a long time, you can still win without camping, get more points and have more fun.
0 -
I mean, I agree I have more fun not being at the hook but I highly doubt you as a survivor would prefer the killer playing like this being face planted on the floor for 2 years. I'm not hooking....at all. You are bleeding out son.
0 -
No hooks is one of the best way to enjoy killer; more chases and it eliminates a good chunk of perks swf use to flex on the killer
0 -
do you play much pyramid head?
cage works both ways where if you're dealing with split up survs the odds are pretty good that the cage will spawn within a 5 sec run of another survivor, severely muting the pressure you'd otherwise get from people having to come to where -you- are while dodging you and your terror radius
it's also pretty much self-sabotage to do it in the endgame since the cages love to spawn near gates for whatever reason, i swear they prioritize that vs where the actual furthest spawnpoint is
so the gist i'd posit is that while caging can be quite good (absurdly good if you don't give a [eep] and know where they're likely to spawn and go straight for the caged person to kill them off shortly afterwards if they're now death hook) like a lot of things it's not as good as it seems on paper

The hook and sacrifice system needs rework. We have lost the system of emblems, the benefits and so on have changed. Times have changed.

I love to do this with Pig and Twins.
Who is your killer for this tactic?
0 -
Leatherface and for some weird reason Wraith.
My backup plan in Wraith is NOED, Bloodwarden, Agitation and bitter murmur
Leatherface I just do bamboozle, corrupt and then whatever else.
Twins seems like a really good choice though
0 -
Why Agitation, when you don't really hook survivors. Only for Bloodwarden play?
1 -
Yeah it's literally just to get them to hook faster for Bloodwarden and to get them away from the gate to hooks once I down them so they can't crawl out
0 -
I would try No Way Out instead
1 -
I was thinking that but I wasn't sure because I kinda wanted them to open the door for Bloordwarden but maybe that should just be a backup plan instead.
I'm new to NOED/Bloodwarden gameplay
