Which Is dumber: The DC button or the DC penalty?

Disconnecting is only ever intended to allow you to leave if you have pressing matters to attend to, or if there's a hacker in your game and they're holding it hostage. The punishments are there to deter players from babyraging and quitting games because they can't accept that different players have different playstyles.
And if someone has poor internet and keeps disconnecting, then they shouldn't be playing the game. They lessen the experience for every player in their game whenever they choose to play with bad connection by not being a reliable player, so why should they just be allowed to disconnect for free? Every single other online competitive game penalizes players for disconnecting, bad internet or not. DbD isn't (and shouldn't be) an exception.

DC penalty. why should people with poor internet be punished so harshly?
I can't. I have the best internet available in my area.

DC penalty. why should people with poor internet be punished so harshly?
there is no better alternative. I wish I could fix it, but It's just spotty and out of my control. sorry.

DC penalty. why should people with poor internet be punished so harshly?
It does work 95 percent of the time, though. I'm just salty about the other 5%.

None of them are stupid.

Yayyy another extremely biased poll. What fun!

DC penalty. why should people with poor internet be punished so harshly?
but of course.
Edit: I was pretty salty when I made this post, and I do apologize for letting my bias interfere with the neutrality of this poll.

I'd say DS button is much dumber than both of those lmao

DC Button. why would you have a button that punishes you?
Dc button shouldn't exist the way it is. The only way you should be able to leave a game through disconnecting is if every member on your side agrees or you lose connection. If they want to afk after they don't get their way then let them. They want to unplug the internet fine. If they have an emergency then why would they care if the game is still running or turned off, it's an emergency.
Yes I'm saying the killer can decide to end the game themselves if they feel like it. But there is more of an impact on the experience if one or two survivors dc while the others wanted to play the match.

I just picked DC penalty because an option to DC is necessary in case a real life emergency happens.
That, and the fact the that the DC penalty system can't tell a DC from a game crash.

Both combined.
I agree

Hey first ban due to game being held hostage by survivors twice both of which they were max rank and me as a killer am the lowest rank SO MUCH FUN GLAD I AM PUNISHED FOR TERRIBLE MATCHMAKING AND BEING TROLLED.

Both combined.
Both. If they will ban you for DC I don't see the point to have a DC button. And also, as solo survivor you are also "banned" if your baby teammates DC. As killer, you may not have the chance to do your challenge if they rage quit.

Neither is “dumb”. They need a way to leave the game in case something comes up in real life. And they need to temporarily suspend people who abuse that.

DC penalty. why should people with poor internet be punished so harshly?
that's fair.

I’m the state that the game is in, penalties for DCing should be removed. The amount of game breaking bugs that come out in every update feels like enough of a penalty than if you were to DC. On top of that, the hacking problem forces players to stay in a match that they know they’re not gonna win.
BHVR should leave the penalty off until they fix their game.

Neither, sometimes things come up and its worth it next time to wait the 5 or 10 minutes after you leave a match if you are urgently needed. Like a buddy says "Hey wana join me in a game of *Insert Popular FPS Here*"
And the punishment is there so if you don't have an excuse you think twice before fouling the experience for the other 4 people in the match.

that's fair too.

Neither is dumb.
DC-Button-->There needs to be a way to end a game fast in case of emergency.
DC-Penalty-->Needed, because otherwise people just DC when they get first downed, dont like the Killer, dont like the Map, dont get a Hook before a Gen is done, etc.... And if you have a bad internet, you should not play Onlinegames in the first place. For the other 4 players in the Trial it does not matter if you DCed because of your poor Internet or because you ragequit, their gaming experience is worse either way.

DC Button. why would you have a button that punishes you?
DC Button.
If you have an emergency, just close the whole game and go sort that out!
But honestly, the dumbest thing is that there's still no way to differentiate between different reasons for disconnecting. Hasn't happened to me yet because I'm average MMR, but I've seen high MMR players DC because of hackers and it's just dumb that they end up being punished while the hackers jump right into the next game. Makes little sense.

DC penalty. why should people with poor internet be punished so harshly?
right?
there's a ping tracker built in, and as far as I can tell (based on a poll I made), people are generally just mildly annoyed when their teammate DCs.

DBD may have dedicated servers, but it doesn't have the backend needed to pinpoint why a connection drops. If it did then a lot more people would be getting benched for much longer periods. To be fair, most games with dc penalties really discriminate between disconnections. If the server pings your rig and doesn't get a response you're just getting a penalty. We probably would have a dc penalty if people hadn't constantly abused the fact that there was nothing forcing them to stay in games.
If you've got an emergency, cool. If you have to leave because of hacking, cool. What isn't cool, but is the most common reason of dcing is people not wanting to deal with certain killers which not only makes the game worse for others, but drastically inflates queue times after a while. The only way to really know hacking is going on is through either activity monitoring in real time which is not a viable strategy or people reporting on it afterwards with proof which is the method that most games use.

DC Button. why would you have a button that punishes you?
The problem is that you get penalized no matter what, I am being held hostage by a killer who trapped me in a corner, all other survivors are dead so disconnecting will not ''harm their experience'' I decide to disconnect, I get penalized...

That is such a rare situation that the D/C penalty isn't even an issue in that instance. You'll only get a five minute penalty and can watch YouTube or grab a snack in the time it takes to be able to play again.
Besides that, a better thing to do would be to just watch YouTube or grab a snack anyway while the Killer wastes their time being a jerk. They'll eventually get bored. And in the meantime, you can record their behavior and report it. They're essentially taking the game hostage, which is a reportable offense.

DC Button. why would you have a button that punishes you?
Yeah but it doesn't have to be like that, how come identity V already has a system that deals with this issue and was developed years after DBD and with half the resources and also be able to put out twice the content as an already established company...saying its a rare situation is not an excuse, it wasn't for identity V and it shouldnt be for DBD who has more years in development.

I agree that they need a better system in place for handling D/Cs (something like CS:GO's would be better, for sure), but the best thing they could do for getting bodyblocked in corners would be to allow the Survivor to phase through the Killer after X number of seconds have passed.
...as well as not going into corners that you can be bodyblocked in.

In general, you should not play online games if you have an internet that is not stable and crashes often. The DC penalties are okay and if the internet really only crashes a few times, you won't really feel the 5 minutes.

DC penalty. why should people with poor internet be punished so harshly?
to clarify, my internet works about 99.5% of the time at this point, but it was randomly horrible for a week or so a couple of months ago.
I was pretty bitter when I wrote this.

I think everyone has crashed the Internet at some point. That's why I think that the 5 minute penalty is not bad.
But if there are always problems, then you should play games that you play alone. :)
I hope you have fun and good internet again now. See you in the fog.

True Alt+F4 works better anyways

There is no "DC button". The Leave Match button is in the game for the rare occasions when you have to leave the game, due to a game breaking bug or an IRL emergency, the latter is hardly going to matter with a 5 minute penalty.
We don't promote DC'ing on this platform as unsportsmanlike behaviour is against the game rules - and as such against the forum rules. It's why DC'ing is punished, as there's no way to tell whether it's an internet issue or an actual ragequit, due to how easy it is to abuse the system...so all DC's are handled the same way, which is why the penalty is kept short initially.
It's the players responsibility to ensure that they have the hardware to run the game, that includes their internet connection.
