The correct way to balance boon totems and give the killer more control over it
The boon totems meta is here and for obvious reasons, they give very powerful effect and it only requires 1 survivor to have the boon totems perks to be able to give the effects to the whole team and the killer can only remove it until they bless it again giving the advantage again.
There are 2 things that need to be changed, or nerfed depending the way you see it to make boons less oppressive and more balanced overall.
- Make the killer able to either break the totem or simply snuff it.
The killer must decide if they would rather snuff the totem making survivors spend time blessing it again or totally remove the totem and make sure they don't get the effect again, survivors can break our hexes or bless them but we do not have this option, giving us the option to decide if we want to lose that totem or not would be a good way to fix the boon issue.
2. Survivors need to have boon totems perk equiped to be able to have the bonus of the boon totems.
The way boon totems work atm, 1 survivor could have now 3 boon totems and 1 perk of their choice and all 3 other survivors have their own 4 perks and be able to have all the effects of the boon totems when in the area, making them have 7 perks each, making it so if you want to have the effects of boon totems you need to have them equip will GREATLY reduce their strength causing survivors to take 1 or more perk slots to be able to have the benifits of the boon totems, making it fair on both side, if the killer lose their hexes, they lose a perk, survivors shouldn't have 1-3 extra perks for free because one survivor took boon totem perks, if all survivors want to be able to have circle of healing boon, they all need to have it equiped, and so have 4 perks like they should have.
These changes would greatly reduce the oppressiveness of the boon totems and give less free benifits to the survivors without requiring a perk slot and allowing the killer to decide if they want to take away their boon totems or completely remove the totem.

Honestly I think it would be fine if the totem just broke down when the killer kicked it. It would limit the number of times boon perks could be used to 5 per match and only one or two of them would be in actually useful locations. Additionally if the survivors wanted to make full use of the perks they would either have to bring an additional perk to find totems or spend time looking for them and not constantly bless the same ones over and over.

I was just thinking on this topic and had an idea. Survivors have the perk Soul Guard, which gives the ability to pick themselves up if a hex is in play. What if killer had a similar perk, like for each boon EFFECT (not just totem but if someone stacks 3 effects on a totem then it counts 3) survivors received a 3/4/5 % penalty to repair speed up to a max of 20%

What would be more balanced is if they brought back old undying

most definitely, but at least if they read it they "COULD" consider this possibility

Boon totems are in there current state op,I play both killer and survivor equally and think it gives a huge advantage for survivors, someone here argued that if a totem is a one use only perk if it is destroyed by the killer the perk is a wasted perk, what about killers who use and play with a hex build, with a good team this can be useless in minutes with no way back.It is upsetting the balance in the game.A lot survivors will go on about face camping and tunnelling ruining the game there are easy ways round both however boon totems have tilted the game too far.Probably just a cash grab by BHVR to sell that stupid witch with circle of healing perk.It will no doubt be buffed but when,a better change would have to introduced a proximity penalty for face campers under the right conditions.Boons need fixed and quickly.

Tackling that second suggestion- I don't hate it, but isn't it actually the better case scenario for only one person on the team to have any boon perks? Even setting aside the fact that if they're killed, boons are gone, if they're the only one running the boon that means they have to stop what they're doing to relight it when you snuff it, and it's a hell of a lot easier to pressure and interrupt one guy doing boons when nobody else is able to take over the job for them.
It feels like that change would only encourage the actual worst case scenario, which is four boons lit all at once covering a huge portion of the map.

if all 4 survivors run circle of healing that mean either unbreakable, dead hard or DS is gone, and I am up for it
i'd rather all 4 have circle of healing and 3 other perks than 1 with 3 boons and the others with DS DH unbreakable and iron will.

I can respect that, I don't know if I agree but I get where you're coming from.

And most definitely, the 3 boon survivor have DH as their fourth perk, we all know it.
