Oni demon dash question

Why is it that during a demon dash, sometimes Oni does an instant hit and sometimes a lunge?
The lunge always makes me miss 100% of my hits. Why are there variations? 🤔

If you start your M1 out of dash within the hitbox of the survivor, it will instantly hit and start the slam animation. If the hitbox of the survivor is not inside your hit cone when you M1, you will lunge.

Its very similar to M1ing a survivor. If they're directly in front of you, you'll do a short lunge even if you hold down M1. But if they aren't, you'll lunge forward.
