What's with the weird chat censoring in DBD?

mundane words like "Mobile Phone" and "Camera" and things of this nature are censored in DBD when trying to write them in post-game chat or lobby. Ever since I can remember, I have always struggled to communicate with people due to normal words being censored.

How on earth such words have become censored in the first place? I understand that every game has some words that need to be censored but this is the first game ever where I see such heavy censoring to a point where people simply can't have a normal conversation.

I actually find it funny. How the word censorship is so ridiculous, there's no room left to argue for bias against what it censors. It's so goofy that you can't help but laugh at the ridiculous situation, regardless of your opinion on what should or should not get censored in the chat of a game

I think that they try to curb too toxic communication between the people, but it somewhat falls short: toxic peeps will still fond ways to abuse you and you can't really give normal feedback. Words like "hard", "tunnel" or "Dwight" are all crossed out, for example.

It's because BHVR, in their "wisdom", decided to spend their resources coding some bizarre predictive filter that tries to interpret intent and then censors accordingly. But it's a barely functional, inefficient and ineffective mess.

A simple wordfilter would've taken zero effort and been more effective. In itself it's a baffling decision on BHVR's part, since they have quite the penchant for putting little to no effort into coding.

As much as badly implemented old school word blacklist systems can lead to weird situations (like "assassin" and "knight" being censored in games that feature assassins and knights because of substrings in the words), I'd rather have that to be honest.

Make the list curated in such a way that if you see **** in chat, you know immediately that they said something that's reportable. And then make filter evasion a bannable offense in itself. Now someone can get their whole sentence blurred out and you have no idea if they said a single word the filter "bot" considered kinda bad, or if they actually typed 12 slurs.

It was meant to be there to help deal with slurs and the like. Which, you know, good thing.

Instead it's been dialed up... A bit too strictly. And now you can't even say the word Deutsch (which is German for... German) but calling someone a Nazi scumbag for being German is fine.

Oh and you can tell someone to SUICIDE in all caps too.

    It doesn't work very well.

I still don't understand why they added censorship. This game is 18+, you'd think anyone above 18 would be able to just ignore salty people and if they couldn't handle it, just turn off endgame chat.

Now there's just so many weird censored words. I'll never forget the time I was joking around with the killer and I had the words "Your mom" censored. What am I supposed to do if I can't even do kindergarten insults???

BHVR sure is a company that makes stranges decisions one after another while ignoring the important stuff.
