This is not a horror game.
And no one can deny unless they are BHVR marks who think everything they do is good.
The shift to survivors being easy mode, the constant grind, killers being set up as a joke unless you can get certain perks from their rngweb and most games being dominated by the red mist.
You can call this many things, a game, a rage simulator, a hand holding simulator, the idiot savant test, what not to do when making a multiplayer game, and a melting pot of all other toxic communities combined.
But a horror no. people are being sold a bill of goods on that aspect and hopefully something can come around to quell the itch this game has left

the idiot savant test is a perfect title
also killer good :)
survivor bad >:(

It's still a horror game. Just because it doesn't scare you anymore doesn't mean it isn't horror.
If you watch a horror movie multiple times it will also become less scary, doesn't mean it starts being comedy.
28 -
No more like Survivor: easy Killer: aggravating
And I say that because look at when each side has when it comes to bullshit and you can see survivors have alot more stuff to work with than killers
0 -
Oh no, somebody got looped, clicky-clicky’d and crouched on!
Maybe the killers aren’t good?
No, it’s the survivors being op.
8 -
That's why he said "killer good survivor bad" because you aren't adding anything new to these forums besides the same clutter of us vs them.
6 -
Oh I was more just pointing out why its not a horror game anymore
1 -
and you apparently didn't read my post.
Also look at each sides toolkits and you tell me why so many say survivors are op
4 -
Not even the devs say it’s a horror game…
it’s pretty much a multiplayer action game with horror characters
3 -
Very true for an actual horror experience.
This however is a comedy.
0 -
Then they need to change it to that it's almost a straight-up lie now calling it a horror game
0 -
If it was a comedy why does everyone seem to be crying all the time?
6 -
IDK maybe cause people wanted it to be a good horror game and not an utter embarrassment on that front along with others.

The horror...the horror! It's Fortnite Scary I agree. They are catering to kids/survivors lately. O,0
0 -
It's internet tag with a horror skin. Scary for the first ten hours, then you learn how to play the game.
Though there's still some genuinely scary things in this game. ...Mostly centered around Myers, between scratched mirror, the threat of tombstones, and this really spooky build I played against a week ago that involved permanent T3 and Plaything.
While I don't contest survivors are unbalanced when it comes to streamlined play, the game was far more survivor-sided at its genesis. Most killer powers were annoying and time-consuming to use, true infinites, pallets everywhere, permanently sabotaged hooks... it's not a shift, it's the "always has been" meme.
4 -
its horror themed, but i dont think it was ever intended to be focussed on horror.
its much more of a slasher game that includes violence and action rather than a creepy atmosphere and scares.
1 -
So it's an action multiplayer game with horror elements then. And the mentality of "Always has been" has led it to become more and more of a migraine magnet and a complete joke it seems.
0 -
No it had been survivor catered ever since learnable perks have been a thing
0 -
Its got horror characters but its only creepy for a short time.
Now it can still make me jump here and there.... here some examples.
Working a gen and notice myers staring at you through a window. Hear ghostface straps when working a gen or opening a chest. A very fast ogre in flames flying in your direction.
1 -
Just because the gameplay isn’t really Horror doesn’t mean the tag horror is not fitting.
2 -
It's labeled and advertised as a horror game though. Maybe games have horror themes and elements but aren't called that and considering it a slasher game means in that it fails on that too since TBH IMO for as buggy and broken of a game as it is friday the 13th did that better
0 -
How so?
0 -
Again it's still not a horror game. If this is considered a horror because of examples like that everything from fnaf to half of Nintendo's library is as well.
0 -
and before you say it yes I know and anyone with eyes can see it it has horror themes. But, dont call/advertise your game as a horror game when it is not.
0 -
It's a horror game. Step outside, take a walk and breathe some fresh air.
1 -
It's like watching the Olympics.
1 -
Really it's a horror game? Care to explain or are you just going say that it is and pretend that that is the truth?
1 -
Please explain cause how does this connect to the olympics I don't see false advertisements and a meeting ground for the spawn of satan's anus. That is unless you are insinuating that it connects because just like this game everyone else feels like ######### when losing to an athlete who dopes.

it's a horror themed asymmetric multiplayer game and i think that's fine. you just can't get actual horror in a game where every character is controlled by a person. animations and movement always look weird and gameplay won't match the tone. i do think the neon cosmetics are pretty dumb and don't look good, would love to see more, well, good outfits.
1 -
To a point that can be true but it doesn't feel like a horror game, it may look like one but just like I said to another looking like it only matters part of the time.
1 -
i didn't say it was a horror game, just horror themed.
0 -
Understood I'm just saying the feeling of it being one is all but gone and cause multiple people keep bringing up the aesthetics and nothing else .

PLAY A SINGLE PLAYER GAME
0 -
Oh like fatal frame, condemned, and the first few silent hills that are actual horror games.
0 -
...yes. Go play them. DBD is not for you.
3 -
Dont AGAIN me. I didnt say it was i said it had horror characters thats it....since i have to repeat myself.
1 -
Didn't need to repeat yourself I understood what you meant but it needed to be said
0 -
Why do you even think that you can decide what counts as a horror game and what doesn’t?
the horror genre has high variety. And DbD has many motives that undeniably counts as horror
2 -
Who is it for then cause what its advertised and what is real surely aren't one and the same.
0 -
Did it? You have said it more than enough.
1 -
Only cause people keep bringing it up. Yes, it has horror themes so do most games that have that but how many of them advertise it and market it as a horror game when you actually play it and it's almost a complete 180.
0 -
That can be also asked as well. Besides fleeting moments and visuals, why is this advertised as a horror game and not what is actually is an action game with horror elements?
1 -
It's Horror.
1 -
Where is it even advertised as a pure horror game?
and why are visuals not enough for a video game to be considered a genre?
0 -
If it bothers you that much to make a thread why are you playing? Has it got more and more disney of late...maybe but do we really want survivors hiding in bushes all day scared to do anything? The hide and seek game is not as appealing as what we have now...I know this because i used to try to get friends to play (when i was new before i knew better) and they said " I dont want to play hide and seek ".

Even if it’s not, is that a bad thing?
It’s the nature of any PvP game. Once you understand that the “scary” has its own recognisable goals, tools and limits, the experience just isn’t scary anymore. Especially after you’ve played it for over 20 hours. No presentation in the world will change that.
What makes a horror game a horror game? Atmosphere? That wears off after the second time you’ve seen it, especially once you realise how it’s pulled off. Scary characters? Takes a bit longer, but the same applies.
Fear stems from the unknown. In a PvP video game, the ‘unknown’ is broken down to its mechanical components, which is not unlike revealing the endoskeleton of an animatronic doing its thing, in full lighting.
If you want true horror in DbD, you need something that’s wholly unpredictable by any player, and have it pose an (unfair) threat. It’s why Spoopy Myers is still scary. You don’t know where he’s coming from, or even if he’s still after you. Hell, you don’t even know you’re facing it at first.

No it needs to have the feeling as well and tell me do you feel like this is a legit horror game. Think of games that are always brought up when it comes to horror fatal frame, silent hill, resident evil other than 6, amnesia do any of them just rely on visual or is there more to it?
0 -
It's meant to be horror-themed, but as you mentioned in one of the posts, it doesn't feel like one.
A large part is because of getting used to how things work. And that's only one aspect: the changed survivor animations make them more like anime characters posing when slamming a pallet down, or running from a killer as if on a daily jog (basically, the old animations); the growing obviousness of the map layouts; people learning this game from all the tip videos; the strange "us vs them" mentality and so on.
I'm not wanting it to necessarily be pure horror, but for a game horror comes a lot from unpredictability. More chaotic map set-ups, extra things on maps like traps (the pumkins that either sped you up or slowed you down were a good idea), more meaningful offerings that alter the maps climate (not just a mist thing, but maybe make it pure night or heavy rain, which in turn may have an effect on movement or abilities and perks. I remember playing the first Silent Hill game; not knowing what to expect and it was terrifying! But I play it now and knowing all the aspects takes a lot of the fear away.
Basically, the game won't ever be scary, but from a horror perspective it can gain it if the devs take more risks. As for the game itself, it is horror but the novelty of it makes it a very unconvincing horror with any scares remaining coming from sneaky plays than the game itself.

But… feelings are ENTIRELY subjective. And you are already arguing with people who assured you they feel like DbD deserves to be called a horror game.
so.. why do you think your feelings are the ones that are ‚right‘?
And besides a few parts, Resident Evil is even more action over horror than DbD. Not only part 6. haven’t played the others.
0 -
Maybe because it needs to be said instead of the usual problems of survivors bitching about everything, killers swearing to not play anymore leading to the game sometimes being a waiting room simulator, the dev team showing they don't care, and a hacker haven that never gets fixed, and a toxic landfill filled with the most abhorrent people that the devs seem to think is ok. Maybe its also the feeling that while it may look like a horror game it has no soul anymore.

Those are all singleplayer games, to my knowledge, which can pull off far more ”horror” than any PvP game can. Enemies can spawn in whenever and wherever, the play area is linear and tells its own stories, voice-acting can be a thing without it becoming basic “I did this attack.”
