Dark Souls 2 was almost the best Soulsborne game, change my mind!
I say almost because A: Elden Ring, and B: it got stuck in development hell briefly. If it hadn't, it would have been the best, in my opinion.

Regarding the pvp, maybe, however, in my opinion, design-wise it's worse than the other Soulsborne.
Of course a big part of it has to do with the troubled development it went through:
That said, the level design feels inferior to DS1's interconnected world, the lore is also pretty messy, with contradictions with the first game (for example the Dragons possessing souls or Giants being different race from DS1's Giants and so on).
The massive amount of bosses also doesn't help the cause, since most of them are forgettable and barely interesting (I'm talking to you Prowling Magus and Congregation) and they used a quantity over quality amount of enemies to create a sense of difficulty that DS1 had with smart enemy placement.
Also can't be the best when Bloodborne exists.

I think that overall, it's worse than the sum of its parts.
I do agree the world doesn't feel all that interconnected, and some corners were clearly cut. (reused Ornstein and the earthen peak elevator up to iron keep, for example.)
My opinion is that, if not for a troubled development, it would have been fantastic.
thus the "almost".
also, I actually haven't played bloodborne. (I've actually only played ds2, so this opinion is heavily based on reading about the other games and seeing gameplay)

I feel like they managed to create a great variety of builds, environments, armor sets and enemies, the big issue is that most of that feels out of place: the example I always bring up, and that you mentioned as well, is the infamous Earthen Peak, with an elevator on top of a tower that leads to a volcano.
But yeah, most of it was due to the troubled development, Miyazaki not being involved for most of it didn't help either, and their overall idea was probably a bit too ambitious for the technology, time and funds they had.
If you get the chance to play the other games, Bloodborne included, they are definitely worth it.

yeah. It's too bad it had a flawed development. really, the title was a bit of an exaggeration, I was just trying to say that I think it could have been the best. Obviously, it isn't *cough, Shrine of Amara, cough*, but I feel it could have been.
I'll definitely give the others a try. They're available on PC, right? or, was bloodborne a ps4 exclusive?

I know your title was meant to be that, I just like discussing about this, I love those games.
Bloodborne is PS exclusive, you can play DS1 and DS3 on PC and Sekiro too, if that interests you, even if it can be very different; I'd also suggest Nioh and Nioh 2, or just Nioh 2 if you have to choose one, they are not really Soulslike games, but they have similarities and, in my opinion, one of the best combat system in the genre.

for sure.
I also love the souls games.
Thanks for the clarification. unfortunately, I'm on a ps3 on death's door. I guess I could play the original Demons Souls, but the console really is barely holding on.
I may well end up getting sekiro at some point. I'm not sure, I expect that shifting from playing ds2 on controller to another souls game on M & K would be really jarring.
(to clarify, I was just saying that the discussion title was partially meant as a joke)

If you'd want to talk about weird illogical land marks then look at DS3's cathedral of the deep which ACTIVELY RUNS AWAY FROM YOU!
No seriously every single time you see it from a distance its position changes meaning you're literally chasing down a giant cathedral that's running away.

One of the only souls game I haven't played. My favourite by a mile is bloodborne.
Can't compete with it's theme and the great bosses. If DS3 had a better world then I'd prefer it because I believe it has the best boss roster of the series.

side note, I have scholar edition, but the game isn't actually that version.
any idea why or how to fix it?
for example, I start each run with all the dlc keys instead of having to find them in Drangliac castle and the surrounding areas.

I've got this weird bug in ds2, and I was wondering if you could help.
I have Scholar of the First sin, but the parts that got changed are really inconsistent.
The Forlorn are totally missing, but Aldia shows up, for example.
any ideas?

Gank squad the game god damn those bosses sucked and clearly shows how much better the bosses got in the series with some exceptions
