Grim Embrace and the Late Game

When it was initially positioned on the PTB and once it hit live, I thought that Grim Embrace was a pretty meh perk that you're not going to really see that much use out of- a meagre effect, gained by doing something that might not happen for a little while depending on how the game progresses. The length of time is pretty short, so even if you can hook all four players quickly, you don't get that much meaningful slowdown when compared to something like Deadlock, or Thrilling Tremours.

What I didn't take into account is if you're on the back foot, and you get that fourth stack when there's only one or two gens remaining- that actually buys you quite a bit of time. I've had a few games now with Grim Embrace (I'm Prestiging Michael so I don't have a full roster of perks), and I'm honestly finding that the breathing room you can get if that fourth stack comes in towards the end is pretty game-changing, survivors not being able to finish the objective for 40 seconds and being forced to scramble away into areas that may or may not have any resources left for them to use in chase is genuine value.

In conclusion, I think we should all collectively re-evaluate this perk. It's honestly not bad!

Hmm, this sounds indeed not that bad. It still has the problem that you need to hook all four survivors and sometimes you don't see one all game, but I guess thats the kind of risk you have with most perks, ie that some game situation might not come up to give them value.

I might have to try it out on Nemesis. I like to run Noed so that by the time end game comes, the whole maps a dead zone but this might be something spicy to try out

I love the idea of Grim Embrace anyway. It let's us killers turn our brains off and just CHASE....or take a breather.

I always try to juggle and hook each survivor before GE was even released. When I seen it I thought this perk was perfect for my style. The reality is though...not enough value for the cost of activation. I feel that way even with how I play killer.

I need to feel the value in perks so I know what to use. This perk could never activate or could activate after you are already dominating. Even if it activates at the perfect time 40 seconds is like 20 secs killer time if you get wat i mean. Plenty of more valuable perks out there like her other 2 perks for instance.

Grim Embrace goes well with Ruin.

I feel it might go with the bleet mains.

When I first heard about Grim lock I thought the perk would activate like twice if you just hook 4 times every time. I think dead lock is better and more consistent really.

Hooking all 4 survivors has always been an abysmal condition even in theory due to bad luck/stealth playstyles existing.

All it takes is having bad luck running into one or having a single blendette in the game to make the perk useless.

Also blocking off all generators while in theory sounds good it runs into the same issue as No Way Out:

The moment it activates just makes all the survivors hide because they have no reason not too.

In grim embraces case making using your advantage outside of camping kinda worthless.

The obsession is actually shown to you so you can get into a chase immediately though but everything else is fair point.

Not if the last survivor hooked is the obsession which is another downside.

The effect isn't terrible. It's just that other perks are more consistent. Sometimes you won't catch the 4th guy. And like you said, perks like Deadlock save more time overall. 40 seconds isn't much unless you're playing a Killer with mobility. So if you're a Nurse or Blight player, then yeah Grim Embrace is probably a viable option.

How does it go well with Ruin? Gens that are blocked stop regressing.

I guess survivors don't necessarily know the moment when gens stop regressing, so you'll get a little global regression after they unblock but before people relocate on their gens?

It's not the greatest synergy, though. And I prefer NWO to Grim Embrace simply because the numbers are better. They're both game delay with info, but in my games where I used Grim Embrace - which wasn't that many, admittedly - I didn't especially feel the value out of it. I chased the obsession and the other survivors healed up, or someone blessed a totem. It's nice nobody did gens during that chase, but the time wasn't wasted.

    oh nvm

I thought the blocked gens would be free value for ruin :(

Nah that'll make builds way too creative for killers combine regression perks with lock down so that's not allowed.

Also locking down gen is a bad combo for Ruin anyway, Just encourages survivor to look for hex since they have nothing to do.

Grim Embrace needs to have its duration increased to 60 seconds or else I'm not picking it. The requirement to hook 4 different survivors is already quite steep, especially in the current CoH meta where you get heavily punished for not tunneling survivors.

Just FYI gens don’t regress while they’re blocked. They still probably pair together since Ruin will tend to be destroyed before Grim Embrace goes off, but if anybody is thinking they synergize in a way that Ruin is regressing for 40 seconds after a Grim Embrace that’s not the case.

Obsolete perk if the survivors are good loopers.

Solely based if all survivors are good loopers you may not even be able to hook 4 all. Doesn't happen often but the potential is there.

I don't really see how that's specific to this perk, though. If you can't hook everyone, surely no perk is going to help you?

    I think it's a pretty decent perk.

People are just trying to hard to activate it. If you have the choice of getting someone out of the game or activating then get someone out of the game.

Not all 4 survivors need to be alive for this to trigger. The couple of times i played with it it was able to stop the last gen from popping when there were 3 survivors left changing a 1 or potential 2k into a 4k

I like Grim Embrace, but I stopped running Ruin. Too many times did I have my hex destroyed within 30 seconds by survivors that it wasn't worth playing matches one perk down.
