How do you use the Demogorgon's portals? (PC)

Hi! I know I might sound silly calling myself a demo main, even though I have zero clue how to use his portals!

I've tried many times to use them, placing multiple portals throughout the map (some in the very corners, some in the middle, and some as close to one another as possible) but i've never seemed to be able to work it. I've tried standing on top of a portal and holding down the ability button (M2), to which i could see the small red arrows above each portal as i faced their direction. Although I could see the arrows, I didn't have any sort of prompt to teleport, as tapping CTRL did nothing and M1 would only make me lunge forward, and all other keys besides WASD did nothing either. Am I dumb? Am I doing something wrong? Has every single time I've tried to teleport just been affected by some bug? Did BHVR remove teleporting without telling me?

    you need to hold CTRL over a portal. don’t channel abyss
