A Knife In The Back - A DBD Killer Idea
(This Killer Idea Thread was originally posted on the Steam Discussion Dead By Daylight Forums, on August 21, 2017, and I am now moving it to the New, Dedicated, Dead By Daylight Forums. It should be noted that this is the Second of my Killer ideas. I did originally post the first one before this, but it has disappeared, and as such I have refrained from reposting it to avoid potentially double posting. The information below is largely identical to this particular original incarnation, however some mechanics may be out of date and thus have been slightly edited or altered.)
Howdy folks! Yup, me again, and as the title suggests, I have another new killer idea for you, or maybe I should say, I have... several? *chuckles*
Much like my most recent killer idea, The Mistwalker, this killer is a more... elemental, supernatural killer. But I think you'll find it has quite the "personality".
But first, as usual, a Disclaimer.
The following is a **Wall Of Text**. If that's not really your thing then this may not be the topic for you, but thank you for your interest regardless.
Contained within are my personal ideas. These should not be taken as legitimate patch notes or as an official announcement in any way. Claiming this is in any way a legitimate announcement will result in the entity trolling you with bad perks.
By Reading this sentence you agree to post in a sane manner, and with positive criticisms and opinions... And please try to keep the trolling to a minimum. (I'm not as delusional as to believe there won't be trolling.)
Without further ado, let us introduce... The Corrupted.
“It was unthinkable, but it had happened. An event even The Entity, ruler of this domain, had not foreseen. In an act of utter desperation, several survivors jury rigged a generator to explode when The entity's chosen Thrall had drawn near. The resulting blast left the Thrall little more than a burnt shell, and those responsible escaped, for now at least.
Frustrated, The Entity brought the Thrall's remains before itself, and infused it with a strange, Inky Sludge, which rapidly began spreading across the Thrall's seared body, until it was naught but a mass of living sludge.
Satisfied, The Entity bade its newest creation to go forth, exact swift vengeance, and show no mercy, and as it shambled off to fulfill its duty, The Entity eagerly awaited the coming meal.”
The Corrupted is a former killer, outsmarted and ultimately slain by several ingenious survivors. It's rebirth by the Entity has resulted in a loss of height, strength and mobility, resulting in The Corrupted being even shorter than The Hag when standing upright, as its legs are composed of sludge and as such form more of a "puddle" for motion instead of standard locomotion.
It's loss of strength and mobility mean that The Corrupted is one of the Slowest of the Killers, And The Corrupted does not have the ability to Lift survivors onto hooks. However, The Corrupted uses its power to achieve its goal quite easily, despite this shortcoming.
For standard attacks, The Corrupted's mere touch is painful, the Sludge it's body is composed of being somehow as cold as death, yet as searingly brutal as the most ruthless malice. Survivor's struck by The Corrupted may soon feel the Effects, as in addition to causing injury, The Corrupted causes... other... complications for survivors to deal with.
The Corrupted has an unnaturally small Terror radius at first, on par with Evil Within 1, however as players begin to be affected by his ability, the radius will increase, with 5 Points being equivalent to Evil Within 2 Michael Myers, and 10 being equivalent to the standard Killer Terror radius.
If a survivor is downed by The Corrupted, he can grab them and drag them, which will trigger the same interaction as if a survivor were being carried by a killer, allowing the survivor to struggle free.
The Corrupted’s Passive Effects are as Follows:
- Reduced Movement Speed
- Slightly Reduced Struggle Difficulty
- Increased Vaulting Speed
- Aura Reading of anything entering a Pool of Corruption for 2 seconds
- Increased Lunge Range
- Terror Radius is Considered Default for the purpose of Terror Radius Perks
- Terror Radius for survivors increases by 4 meters (starting at 20 meters) for every 2 Corruption they have
- Successfully Downing a Survivor Adds 2 Corruption
Power: Vitreous Embrace
Allows for the placing of 3 Pools of Corruption, taking 5 seconds, which occupy a 2 meter area, and are invisible to any who are uncorrupted. Pools of Corruption add one point of corruption every 3 seconds, if healthy/injured, otherwise they apply 3 Corruption, consume the pool, and transport the survivor away if in the Dying State.
All Survivors Gain a Personal Bar, Located Top center of their Screen. This Bar has Four Stages, Divided into 5 Increment Chunks. For every Five points of corruption, the Survivor reaches a new Stage of Corruption. A survivor may only Accrue a maximum of 3 Corruption every 30 seconds, excluding when a pool of Corruption consumes itself, which will ignore this cap.
Corruption effects are as follows:
Corruption Stage 1 (5/20 Points): Survivor Begins to lose minor control of muscles. Skill Checks have a 5% chance per point of Corruption for Good Skill checks to reduce progress by 1%.
Corruption Stage 2 (10/20 Points): Survivor begins to have difficulty with orientation, causing movement instructions to occasionally direct them towards danger for 1.5 Seconds.
Corruption Stage 3 (15/20 Points): Survivor has difficulty telling friend from foe. Other survivors occasionally trigger a Red Stain and Heartbeat for 5 seconds, skills that affect allies are 25% less effective and Any Actions in the Altruism Category take 10% Longer.
Corruption Stage 4 (20/20 Points): The Corrupted's influence overwhelms the survivor, causing them to start uncontrollably walking to the Basement, and Blocking their Aura from all survivors. Should they reach the Basement without another survivor Snapping Them Out Of It, they will proceed to impale themselves on one of the Basement Hooks, starting the Sacrifice Process and resetting corruption to 5 Points (if Stage 1) or 10 Points (if Stage 2).
The further the survivor is from the basement, the faster they will walk, always reaching the basement after 15 seconds, unless stopped by a teammate or struggling. Struggling may buy the affected survivor precious extra seconds, but cannot break the corruptions hold.
Survivors may Snap A Teammate out of it with a Ten Second interaction, which will pause the victims movement to the basement, and may attempt to pass four skill checks with small success zones. Every 2 Good checks will remove 1 additional corruption, and every Great check will also remove 2 additional corruption, unless at 20 Points, which will remove 5 Corruption immediately, and temporarily suppress the negative effects of corruption for 20 Seconds.
There you have it, The Corrupted's kit, and the effects it causes. Naturally though, no killer is complete without Perks, so here are The Corrupted's Unique Perks.
Unique Perks:
Hex: Discord In The Ranks:
“The beasts know that infighting is as likely to lead them to us as hunting, but it's almost as though some deeper cause is to blame for these strange rifts between those who should otherwise be Allies."
A Hex Rooting its power on Trust. All Survivors are affected by Discord. For every 4/3/2 Failed Skill checks, add a Token to Discord In the Ranks. Additionally, tasks that normally have no Skill Check may trigger Skill checks.
- 2 Tokens: Will apply a 5%/15%/25% Interaction Speed Penalty to Co-operative actions for 10/20/30 Seconds.
- 4 Tokens: will Cause Survivors to Suffer from 5%/15%/25% Smaller Skill Check Zones for 10/20/30 Seconds
- Every Sixth Token will Prevent Survivors from performing co-operative actions (excluding rescuing an ally from a hook) for 5/10/15 Seconds, and will remove all Tokens from this Perk after the effect ends. Each time tokens are removed, the potency of these effects increases by 3%/4%/5%, and the duration increases by 1/2/3 Seconds.
Good Hex Skill checks are considered to be 0.5 of a failed Skill Check when gaining tokens, and a maximum of One Token may be gained every 15 seconds.
Unique to The Corrupted until Level 30, at which point it may be unlocked as a Teachable Perk for Others.
False Start:
"It was a trap. A well-hidden trap, but a trap nonetheless. As we toiled away, unawares, the beast watched, waiting, and then pounced once its trap was sprung."
Once Per Trial, you may interact with a Generator to rig a False Start. When the affected Generator is fully repaired, it will instead explode in a shower of sparks, resetting to 80%/65%/50% Repair Progress, and causing survivors nearby to Suffer from Nothing/Hindered/Hindered and Blindness for 0/20/40 Seconds.
(If you can’t tell, I rather like this perk, considering it was also part of one of my Perk Idea Threads.)
Unique to The Corrupted until Level 35, at which point it may be Unlocked as a Teachable Perk for Others.
Hex: Dark Temptation:
"It was a subtle thing, but one that I felt nonetheless. It felt... exhilarating... at first anyways. But after a time, I began to question this... change. Was it truly a blessing, or was it a curse?"
A Hex Rooting its power on Hope. Allows you to place a Cursed Hex Totem at a location of your choice. Cursed Hex Totems have a different coloration to the fire that they create compared to normal Hex Totems.
2/3/4 Survivors are secretly affected by Curse, causing one of their perks, selected at random, to perform 25%/20%/15% more effectively, however, all affected survivors suffer a 15%/20%/25% faster entity progression rate, and 5%/10%/15% smaller skill check zones.
The beneficial effects will decrease as the match progresses, and the negative effects will increase, by 1%/2%/3%, per generator. If the Cursed Hex Totem is Destroyed, it will take the affected Survivor Perk with it.
Unique to The Corrupted until Level 40, at which point it may be unlocked as a Teachable Perk for Others.
Memento Mori:
The Corrupted grabs its downed victim, dragging them towards itself, before completely encasing them in the sludge that comprises its body, causing the survivor to push frantically against the sludge prison. Due to the sheer pain such contact would cause, the survivor rapidly succumbs due to a simultaneous, and rather contrary, combination of extreme frostbite and first degree burns. It then reforms itself and continues on its way, leaving the body where it is.
A couple of those perks might look familiar. That's intentional. I may or may not have put a few out there early to see if people liked them. But don't worry, we're not quite done yet! There's still addons left to go over after all!
