"As Transparent as Possible"
If BHVR aims to be 'as transparent as possible' regarding SBMM, surely not hiding it in-game so completely that most players don't even know it exists and still assume Grades are how matchmaking works is the way to do so. Show us MMR, or admit there's nothing 'transparent' about it. For instance, they say they are 'changing' how disconnecting works with MMR: we still don't even know how it works now, so knowing it'll be changed tells us absolutely nothing! How is this transparent?

If you've followed BHVR for any amount of time "as transparent as possible" means "we're gonna dance around the issues and never give any straight answers about anything".

They mean as transparent as possible with the development, not with the mechanic itself. There's no real reason to show people their MMR, that wouldn't really achieve anything beyond satisfying idle curiosity.
Though, I agree, seeing more about how it functions regarding disconnecting would be a very helpful bit of info. That'd help contextualise how the changes will affect it- hopefully they'll be more open about that when they've got more to share about how they're making those changes.

Spotting when matchmaking has potatoed for some reason would be nice. Did my opponents (or me) have a particularly bad game, or were we just badly matched to start with?

From the devs who couldn't even be transparent about Pinhead's voice lines being removed and made some lie about audio issues and to this day we only know anything because others did digging. Hey, maybe they will be transparent, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Where is the source on them blaming it on audio issues?
all I have seen them saying is they ‚can’t they more on it‘. Which heavily implies legal issues.

I guess they could pull an Obiwan and say legal issues are complications, so it wasn't wrong, from a certain point of view...

Giving players feedback on their performance as well as where they stand relative to the community helps a ton with a lot of things, for instance, pretty much anybody can just say they play at high MMR and say they are having a great or awful time whereas who actually knows if that's true. It being visible would also grant a large amount of transparency to how the MMR actually works and would allow people to see if actually works at least vaguely.
I expressed a lot of distrust over the MMR system because frankly, the tests were all awful experiences and because having a secret MMR shows me they have zero confidence in it working properly, so far most of my worries have been proven true and after playing for a month with MMR I quit the game and haven't been back since, I keep up with the game's progress purely because there aren't any decent alternatives in the genre and would love to see this game turn around and surprise me with some good things but so far it's only been more disappointment with BHVR since I stopped.

This was a large complaint I had with MMR before it came out and its proven to be as annoying as I thought it'd be. You gotta wonder why they even care to throw these "examples" in when we as players have zero context to what it means anyways and means nothing

but… they just said they want to be more transparent with how they are working on this etc and gave explanation on how dcs work with SBMM…. And then you complain about them not being transparent enough?

Right now, anyone can say they play at high MMR, but if MMR isn't hidden you'd have the problem that games with ranked modes face; elitism over ranks where people with ranks perceived as too low will have their opinions and arguments discarded out of hand, which is the last thing this particular community needs.
Also, players have feedback on their performance. That's what the emblem system does, and now that it isn't being forced to try and be an objective, universal measure of skill for matchmaking, it actually does that pretty well. Note that I don't mean grades, just the emblem feedback on a specific match.

The emblems don't mean anything though, they reward actions with weird weights and disproportionately harm or help killers based on how their powers work, the emblem system being buggy and useless is the whole reason we have MMR. I play multiple competitive games and almost never see this elitism problem and even when I do I never see people react positively towards it the people in those communities don't think its a good thing, not to mention all those company's balance things in a way that makes them fun for all ranges of play, UNLIKE THIS GAME. Plus not like SBMM is actually a decent account of skill anyways.
The benefits of having some amount of accountability towards the MMR system far outweigh any negatives that might come with it. I remember people telling me that I should wait till it comes out to judge it and that I don't need to know the score but I've played with it and hated it and it doesn't seem all that popular as a whole either, I know several people on both survivor and killer who quit the game because of MMR.

Because the explanation of that change, in a vacuum, is useless.
For example, they could say "we changed the DC state so that when you DC it stops the top variable from rising but doesn't hamper the lower variable from falling"
Technically that's transparent, but since they never told us what either variable is, it's nonsense.

Exactly, they never told us about any internal variables, they only very recently even kind of admitted that on survivor side it appears to be based solely on whether you escape the trial. (And even then, that may not be accurate)
Do they have to be transparent? No, but if they are going to pretend like they are, and then proceed to not tell anyone anything as they have been, then they fully deserve to be criticized for that hypocrisy and lie.

that doesn’t mean they have to be 100% transparent about everything and it doesn’t make sense to call them out for anything regarding this new statement.
(I agree that the explanation of how SBMM works was weird and directly contradicting an earlier statement but apparently this is something the community is okay with..)

They've said they want to be more transparent for over 5 years now. At what point, according to you, would it be appropriate then to point out that they've been anything but transparent for those 5 years? If I said every month for 5 years that I was going to give you 100 USD, how long would it take before you decided the money just wasn't going to show?

Eh. I haven’t seen them saying this directly often. But I wasn’t here from the beginning and may have not paid attention enough. I at least think that the dev update now seems like a good step in the right direction and is in fact showing more transparency than I am used to.
for your great analogy: I would confront you pretty quickly and give you an ultimatum if you would not deliver in time. If you then still wouldn’t change I would break any ties and relations I had with you because i would know you are not to be trusted and there is nothing worth to keep up the contact.
guess what I would not do? I wouldn’t constantly sit by your side and cry about it if I knew the cries wouldn’t be heard. I can live very much without you or the 100 USD after all.

To clarify, there's no particular reason to show MMR like you said, but there's also even less reason to show opponent's grades since they're not used at all in the matchmaking and just cause confusion. One of the devs last month even asked on the forum if people thought they should remove opponent Grades from the endgame screen and the overwhelming response was Yes. So hopefully that's something in the works.

Oh, yes, I do agree with that. Nobody needs to see their MMR but at the same time, showing Grades is kind of unnecessary and leads to unwarranted confusion.

I admit, I'd be curious to at least know what rough bracket I'm in. It doesn't affect how I play either way, but it'd be interesting to see which killers I have in various MMR brackets.
