MMR rank degradation needs to be a thing.
I haven't played killer much since MMR was introduced. Really, at all, honestly. I played some games with it, was already frustrated with DBD as it was, then realized what sweatfest every killer game was going to be from then on, and didn't want any part of it.
In rare instances that I do play, I generally play survivor. One of my friends is much better than I am. Two of them aren't, and have vastly fewer hours. Despite having a lot of hours clocked in as survivor, and sometimes making stupid decisions as I do, survivor's much easier. Partially because I have a friend that's a bit better at running the killer than I am, or by getting killers that are less skilled than I am because I'm inviting my other friends in to play, and they have lower MMR. Either way, my skill when surviving is 1/4 of the effort made as a survivor when it's 1/1 as a killer.
Now, as much as I digress, someone tonight in Discord was playing killer and I got the itch. I hadn't touched killer in two or three months, other than maybe a KYF or two along the way. So I logged in, loaded up a killer game, and went one hook for all five gens. Clearly I'm rusty; I know that. But why is my MMR still sitting where it was when I quit playing the game months ago? My skills aren't as sharp, I'm slower, and I'm out of touch with the meta. But I'm still playing games against the same type of survivors I'd get when I was at my sharpest?
Even shooters, where MMR would be more balanced because they're a symmetrical game and based on 1v1 or team vs team, have MMR resets with seasons. Instead, here, where I'm not even sold that MMR even works in the first place in an asymmetrical game, we're stuck in MMR limbo with no way to reset? At least with most shooters that utilize MMR, there's that aspect of a fresh start; trying to utilize a new perspective to overcome your own faults. Beginning a continuation of the game in a different mindset to better yourself. For me, here, MMR is just serving as a wall that's so frustrating I don't even want to attempt to get back into it. I don't think the bitter taste that drove you away from an online and evolving game should be the first taste you get when you step back into it months later.

"When someone takes an extended break from the game, their rating does not change. This isn’t ideal since you’re bound to be a little rusty after not playing for a while, and returning to difficult matches is a recipe for a frustrating night. We’re hoping to introduce a mechanic that adjusts your rating(s) when you’ve been gone for a while to ease you back in when you return."

Thanks for the heads up. Hadn't read that part, and I appreciate you bringing that to my attention.

We are hoping to introduce mechanic.
Now, I have lost my hope
