Question about demotions

2 days ago I've reached Iridescent IV on survivors and decided to rank up killer as much as can before Jan 13th. So I stopped playing survivors and played Killers only yesterday.

Today I've got a daily for survivors and decided not to reroll it hoping for killer one, when I opened "Play as Survivor" rank was Gold I (4 pips). Do you lose a pip, if don't play a side that reached Iridescent ranks for a day?

Also, another thing happened yesterday. I was playing a match as killer, one survivor DCed almost at the beginning, so it was an easy win for me (2 been on 2 hooks already and one been on hook once and just got downed), when I started picking up that survivor, my game just froze and instantly self-terminated process without any error.

Of course I lost 1 pip on killer side, because game thought I left on my own decision. That's obvious. What I thought, do you get penalty on both sides in such circumstances or it's unrelated?

I've just started playing DbD a month ago, so I don't know much about all demotion mechanics in game and fandom wikia doesn't describe it very detailed either.

Thanks everyone for reply. (^^) (- -) (. .)

You are not losing ranks/pips while not playing (excepts for rank reset obviously).

what might have happened is that you saw the iridescent rank on the match end/score screen, where all 5 players info/scores are shown? Because the rank display there might be rounded up if you are only one pip away from ranking up.

the penalty you only get if the game thinks you have disconnected, independent from which role you are currently playing. You are losing a pip and get a 5 minute ‚ban‘ from matchmaking (if it happens often in a short span of time the time penalty increases)
