Killer Concept - The Reaper (WIP)
The Reaper is an unrelenting phantasm of darkness incarnate. He hovers throughout the world searching for lost souls to ferry to the underworld. Like the entity, he feeds on the hope and fear of humans, using it to increase his power. Escaping from the the Reaper is paramount, as he grows considerably powerful the longer he chases. Gameplay wise, he is bit of an amalgamation between The Doctor, The Shape, and The Nightmare.
Stats
- Movement Speed 115%
- Drain Hope Movement Speed 110%
- Terror Radius 32 Meters
- Primary Weapon Scythe
Special Attack - Reaping
The Reaper does not attack normally. Instead, he can change the orientation of his scythe between right and left by pressing the secondary action button (Ctrl). When he attacks, the Reaper swings his scythe in a 90 degree arc, hitting all survivors in this arc.
Holding down the attack button does not increase the Reaper's lunge distance, but rather lengthens his attack arc, up to 135 degrees. The Reaper always lunges a consistent distance.
Dev Note: Rough example of the attack arcs below.
Special Ability - Drain Hope
The Reaper summons the power of Death itself, latching onto the soul of one survivor within 24 meters after 3 second and revealing their aura to the Reaper. This bond can only be broken by stunning or blinding the Reaper, being more than 32 meters from the Reaper, or if the Survivor is put into the dying state. While tethered to a Survivor, the Reaper is slowed by 5%. An internal timer records the total amount of time the Reaper has been tethered to a Survivor, inflicting status effects at 60 second intervals.
- At 60 seconds, tethered Survivors suffer from the Blindness status effect until the tether is broken.
- At 120 seconds, tethered Survivors suffer a 50% action speed penalty for 90 seconds after the tether is broken.
- At 180 seconds, the Reaper is no longer slowed when chasing a Survivor he is tethered too. He is still slowed if he attacks or chases a different survivor.
- At 240 seconds, the Reaper becomes invisible to survivors that he isn't tethered to. His terror radius is not affected.
- At 300 seconds, tethered Survivors suffer from the Exposed status effect.
Dev Note: Whenever a new level of Drain Hope is reached, the Reaper lets out a laugh that can be heard on the entire map. Each level has a cackle more maniacal than the last.
Dev Note: Unlike the Nightmare's Dream Demon power, the Reaper CAN attack survivors he isn't tethered to.
Some Add-Ons may include:
- Increasing the lunge range or reducing the charge time of the Reaping attack.
- Reducing the time between levels of Drain Hope.
- Unlocking additional or changing existing status effects for each level.
Perks
The Abyss Stares Back (Level 30 Teachable)
Injured Survivors have a terror radius of 16/20/24 meters to other survivors and are invisible to their aura reading effects.
Dev Note: The intention of this perk is to scare survivors away from one another and prevent healing.
Hex: Shadow of Death (Level 35 Teachable)
Escaping from your wrath is but a pipe dream. Survivors within your terror radius suffer Slightly/Moderately/Considerably (4/6/8%) from the Hindered status effect.
The Hex effects persist as long as the related Hex Totem is standing.
For Whom the Bell Tolls (Level 40 Teachable)
Witnessing your presence instills a fear so great that the viewer desires death. Survivors standing within 16m of you begins an internal timer for individual survivors. Each second spent withing your terror radius reduces the time it takes a hooked Survivor to be sacrificed, up to a maximum of 15/30/45 seconds.
Author's Note
This is a very rough, incomplete concept. Add-ons still need to be created and perks need to be reworked and balanced.
