in game chat censor
Why can you not spell out "styptic" in the game chat? Why is this embarassement of a censor mandatory instead of toggable? It never EVER should be mandatory, especially if it works so bad it censors out in-game medkit addons

You cannot write the character name in there too. Yun-Jin is censored out.
Every day i use it I tell myself - it can't get any worse than that, can it? And every day I am so, so wrong. Remove it entirely if you want to make it mandatory for everyone and bring it back once it's actually working, or just make it toggable so people wouldn't have to bear with this embarrasement

I literally can say shite without the e, the other word for donkey, and damn, but not insta-heal or tbag. It's garbage

Cannot type out "Rancor" either, good one BHVR way to teach new players about killer perks when all you can do is spell them out like ######
Either perfect system or non-mandatory one. Pick a side you pricks

can tbag in game, cannot write "tbag" in the in-game chat.
Embarrasing

"iri" is censored. Why the actual f is "iri" censored?
2 -
can't type out "Stealthing" either. "Stealth" is allowed, "Stealthing" is not. What the f

An actual conversation with a killer (paraphrased as I don't remember the exact words, but this gives you the relevant information).
Me: Nice ######
Kiler: Whoa.
Me: ######
Killer: ?
Me: Spirit perk lets you Mori obsession.
Killer: Oh, right. Thanks, gg. No idea why that's being censored.
Like why is the name of a freaking perk, I'm trying to complement the killer's gameplay and the chat censor is making me sound toxic. I actually wonder how much of the toxicity in this game is actually mistaken attempts to be nice that got erroneously censored.

I was unable to write 'gg' today in multiple trials.
Honestly, what the ######### sort of broken ######### is this?

i'm convinced they just randomly chose what words to censor, i refuse to believe someone can be dense enough to censor the names of perks and survivors in the game.

"i was french" is censored. while i personally agree that we should discriminate against fr*nch "people" i don't think this one is a good example of what should be censored

can spell "downsey" but not "Dowsey". Good one chat censor guys, good one. Not embarrassing at all

This chat censor is an abomination, idk how you can manage to ######### up a chat filter like that. I'm waiting for it to be toggable as well... It gets even worse when you're typing in other languages besides english, it censors so many words that are not even swears, you can't even have a normal conversation in endgame chat in portuguese without having 30% of the words censored lol

I agree, the censor system is very bad . Claudette, Adam & Yun-Jin's names are censored. A lot of common (non-toxic) words (like "you") are censored. It makes the endgame chat a real hassle, even when you're trying to tell someone they played really well. Please make it optional, or remove it.

Figured I could add my two cents to this thread since I've had my fair share of, let's say, odd experiences with this chat filter too.
Since I'm German and meet quite a lot of German players in the game as well, I often write, you guessed it, German words in the chat. And sometimes, the chat filter redacts certain words that are not offensive at all? Which is funny because in this tweet
they clearly claim that it should work with "20 different commonly spoken languages" which German, if Wikipedia is to be believed, is a part of. So I'm all the more confused, if I'm being honest.
I haven't really been keeping track of all words that are being censored (my bad) but here are a few that I can remember:
- wenigstens (at least)
- anscheinend (apparently)
- Herr (Mister)
There might be more but I can't remember them at the moment. Might add them later, if that helps in any way.
I also found this response from the official DBD account to someone who asked a similar question to OP's.
Imho, this might be a good idea for / approach to a chat filter but the execution, the way it is implemented in the game is just (and I am really trying to not #########-talk anyone's work here but sometimes, you just gotta be honest and name the elefant in the room) really really bad and should be reworked and/or made optional.
Honestly, I don't get why it wasn't made optional in the first place. Most other games I've played (e.g. Overwatch) do give you the choice to "filter mature language". That's a game that even teens and older kids can play. And you're trying to tell me that DBD, a game where you can watch others and yourself get brutally murdered by well-known killers from today's pop culture, tries to "force-protect" its players from profanity / "offensive" words? Something isn't adding up here.

to the list of the censored words - phone. How does "phone" offend anyone?

I get how "Twitter" may offend someone, but ffs ######### is this and why is it censored? If it's working so poorly how TF it wasn't made toggable yet? Stop embarassing yourself with it every day by making it mandatory!

You can say camping to your hearts content though. Even if the context of the camping isn't considered by clueless non killer players.
eg all gens done or only remaining gens near someone you hooked.
Sure I will just wander off into the distance.
I never hear well done for not camping when I smash a team.
Such salt.
How about you censor that toxic BS.

But you can write: "4uk yu" or "as hol".
Summary: Chat filter makes normal communication impossible, but does not prevent people from insulting if they really want to do it.

It doesn't even block out a lot of slurs, which it was intended to do.
But instead of just adding a normal list banned words that it blocks out, they go for the option of making something to "try and figure out context"
I've met people who don't speak english at all understand english context better than whatever the AI is doing.
