SBMM is completely broken right now
It really sucks playing as a survivor right now. 5 games in a row and didn't get to end game once. I keep getting matched with survivors that have 200 hours and below. I can easily at least tie every game as killer and my wins are practically handed to me by going against bad teams. Just don't play survivor it's in such a bad state.

And here's me with 450 hours getting sweatsquads with 2000 hours each multiple times in a row.
I think there are just a lot of survivors playing, and not enough killers to go around. I think there are also a lot of lobby dodges happening which...I should honestly be doing more.

Was it working at some point? i think not, the old MM was much better. The new one did nothing more than make SoloQ miserable, and increase the frequency of SWF squads while playing killer.

It was for me. Almost all of my games ended up being 2Ks when it first came out.

Not from my experiences.
Ranks were awful for someone just starting out. Literally every game was either a smurf with multiple hundreds of hours more than me, a SWF of smurfs or just a SWF of purple and red ranks. The games where I actually felt like I had a chance were in the minority.
Right now, we are waiting on the next step of SBMM changes, which should tweak things so that when there aren't many killers on or when lobby dodges happen we don't get thrown to the wolves.

Thats the big flaw of this new MM. You have to survive, if not even if you are the best of the team, it means nothing to this SBMM and it pair you more and more with potatoes. While with the old MM skill was measured by emblems which was more accurate.

You think the old emblem system was better? I remember regularly being matched with survivors that had 80 hours. I have 2000.

Yep I can’t get not one good teammate in these matches and it sucks. Forces me to play with friends

What you are describing still happens a lot. And in both sides.. Killers with 2k hours or considerably more skill that the team you get are still a thing.
I have more than 2k hours and i still get baby dwights with vanilla outfits that DC or go AFK after getting hook.. From my experience SBMM did not change a thing other than making it worse.

Nowhere near as much as it happened before. Now, rather than 2/3 matches being poop, it's more like 2/5. That's an improvement.
It is not perfect, but 'perfect' will always be the enemy of 'good', and even more so 'better'.
I think one of my earliest threads ever is still available, where I showed a postgame lobby with 4 players with 5000+ hours against me with 12.

Yes it was better, it also had its flaws. But i could escape a lot more as survivor with the old MM because the survivors i was being matched were more consistent in skill. Now you almost always get bots as teammates.. before it was maybe 2 or 3 times in 10 games.
And as a killer it was more chill also. Now its SWF most of the times. My emblem system experience was much better when you compare it to this SBMM.
It was not perfect i know, and people demanded something better and new (including myself). But it didn't go well imo. SBMM is just worse.

Funny how people think having X amount of hours in a game means having skill xD

With 200 hours i was playing Myers with this perks...
Like most games hours mean something.. Especially in DBD.

No.
But it does mean people have experience, which is a component of skill unless you are some sort of wunderkind prodigy.

This was even more true of ranks.
SBMM has issues (especially right now, with so many killers seemingly jumping ship) but it's certainly better than ranks were.

They scrapped the elaborated emblem system which took years of work that measured every skill you can develop at the game (the 4 emblems for survivor and killer)
With something more simplistic (SBMM) which measure ""Skill"" by only kills and escapes.
When you look at it this way, you can't expect SBMM to be better. For me its not only worse but also fails at measure skill cause kills and escapes its a pretty vague condition to measure a matchmaking for this game. Cause kills and escapes do not depend only on you but mostly on others.

The emblem system...didn't work. They put all that work into something that was broken from word 'go'.
It capped out so low and was so easy to smurf on that people were able to 100 win streaks with no addons on pre rework Plague, and even Fog Whisperers admitted to deranking to stomp newbies.

It just needed more work, a few tweaks. But the devs decided to go the easy way.. kills and escapes like if this was some generic competitive shooter..
Which btw let me say that this turn the game had was a pretty toxic one, and with toxic i mean unhealthy for the game.. it changed the way people play the game a lot and not for good.

There's a correlation between play time and skill. In every thing that involves skill experience will always increase your skill.
