Why does the Survivor emblem system favor altruism above all else?
I find it kinda insane that I can run a Killer for nigh 5 gens, or fully complete 3 gens by myself and get into a chase or 2 but as long as I don't get any unhooks then I black pip or depip. Then another game I can get 3 unhooks do the equivalent of 1 gen and nearly pip up or even pip up?
Very cool.

If it didn't more players would act selfishly. Why go for that unhook if I can get more points from hiding and doing gens? Same reason max gen points are reached after 3.

It doesn't favor any category it's just the easiest to iri on than the other emblems because of the how Thier scored and the flow of a normal game. To pip you need emblem pts and each category can only give up to 4 pts

Except you aren't allowed to pip up and can even depip, as I said, unless you unhook people, no matter how long you run the Killer and no matter how many gens you do in that same game. Yes obviously it is to prevent selfishness, but it punishes you entirely too harshly if you do literally anything else that isn't altruism. That's the problem.

I thought like that too, until I noticed that every single game no matter how much I did, I would only black or depip unless I unhooked people. And to test this I went on unhooking duty got 3 unhooks and about 1 gen total completed, as mostly useless the rest of the game aside from that, and pipped up or was one point away from pipping up.

Altrusim is favored so highly because you are not SUPPOSED to be able to run a killer for five generators. That is a fundamental failing of the system. The game is supposed to be a give and take, with damage, downs, and hooks providing opportunity for protection, unhooking, and healing.
The modern game has been rebalanced and optimized in such a way to allow survivors to go through a game without ever being troubled by the other side, but the pip system remains a silent testament to the dynamic gameplay that once was.

Wow. What a great, yet sad and melancholic, comment on the state of the game.
I think it's clear that the devs somewhere along the way lost sight of the original vision, and now the game is something else. This new something ain't bad, but it could be so much more. Maybe it would be worth to look at it with a somewhat removal eye and also take the original into account and see where you started where you are now and if this is still on track with where you want(ed) to go and where you're actually heading.
