I will test PTB because why not? I'm taking a break from DbD actual and don't feel like spending more money on the game. I hope they go with Ryuji as survivor.
Probably because after the popularity of The Ring and other Japanese horror remakes, the scary ghost girl trope played out.

I think what I've gathered from people here is that The Ring has a kinda dated premise and the hype sort of died out fast. It was too new to be a classic but sort of aged out of the 'meta' too quickly for me to know about it. Things like NoES, F13, Halloween ect were all classics when I was a kid and I think my first exposure to ANY of them was that damn Michael Myers mask in COD: Ghosts.

You should watch the movie, for sure.
And no, she doesn't use a weapon in the usual sense, so it'll be interesting to see how it is portrayed/adapted. My guess is it'll be a transmission/infection type attack, or something psychokinetic.

I don't know how many years must pass to define it as a classic. I guess the people or the pop culture will decide whether it's a classic or not. And yes, Sadako isn't nearly as well known as Freddy or Myers for example. Maybe she is as famous as Painhead :D

I don't even think that's really the case. The Ring franchise isn't as overall well known as F13 or Nightmare on Elm Street, but it is certainly well known. It probably didn't have the same international hold because the Western remakes fizzled out very quickly after the first one. Meanwhile, Japan has eight different movies in the Ring franchise, including a crossover with Ju-On/The Grudge.

Yeah, true. Im 36 and Ive also seen a lot of very old monster/ horror movies from the early 50s until today. The Thing from Another World and all the Hitchcock classics (Psycho, The Birds e.g.) But I think there a lot of dbd players who dont like watching horror movies and just like the game itself :)

Probably not. The Ring doesn't interest me as an IP. The Japanese original novel even less so.
I'd prefer more original Chapters over a horror IP that hasn't really been relevant (outside of Japan) in 20 years.
Admittedly, I'm probably biased because my dream Chapter already got in last year.
