Replays system
Why don't devs add replays system?

I believe they said they won't add it because it would require them to recode the game from the ground.

Watch the last Q&A stream.
Game was not designed for this from the start - now it is too difficult to add.
Of course they could add it if they want to but there is no incentive.

Because, as they have said multiple times in their Q&A’s, that would require the game to be built with that in mind from the very start.
In effect, a “replay” system requires the game to ‘record’ the match, in its entirety, for 5 players, plus a 6th ‘free’ PoV. Every single meter moved, every single input, every single skillcheck, recorded, AND made to function normally in-play. That’s not as simple as “just add it”.

that's not how replays work. They're not video files but files with each action recorded in them. When you start replay game just loads and repeats these sequences with it's engine. Replay file is actually very small in size because there is nothing but actions recorded in them

You could easily record your side - as all inputs com from you.
As all inputs run through the server it has to be recorded somewhere there and transferred to you (maybe already happens as the game is on your side and after death you can already watch) so that you could watch all players after that.

as i said replays are very small. we're talking about kilobytes, not even megabytes. doesn't seem like a problem

The way the devs come across to me is that they want to do as little work as possible, the reason why about 90% of the time they soon.
Take a look at rainbow six siege, they never planned a replay system from the start and only implemented this last year, and that game is 7 years old now.
That's why imo they come across as lazy (and many other decisions they make), as they want to make something work with as less possible work.
I could be wrong tho, but we'll never know.

I kinda disagree with them on adding a replay function.
Rainbow six siege is an older game and they never planned a replay system from the start, yet here they are and implemented this last year.
And there is way more happening in that game than in dbd, and there are even double the amount of players on the map than dbd.
There's a difference between not willing to and not able to, and imo bhvr is not willing to

You don't need the 6th... once you have the actions of the 5 participants, you can generate the state of the game at any singular point
I do believe each client receives all updates (so regardless of what you can see, your game client is aware of what every other player has done and is doing)... so in theory it should be possible to record. The problem is the "language" of the updates not being such that can be recorded to file easily.

TBH, given how very readily they manage to break seemingly easy things, I'd be very scared of them implementing such a system. They'd probably break the game in some ridiculous ways. See Nurse's current status for more.

Otz spend 2 hours analysing a sus in a single game the other day
With a replay system this would be trivial

Oh trust me i know that all to well, and I'm scared they will break the game as well if they implement it.
My only point was that they say it isn't possible while other games show it is possible to do.
They just don't want to put much effort into it because of the work, and we all know that they don't like that.
