This game devolved into 'Who can be a bigger jerk'
I recognize people can play for fun and there are still moments where people can play around and troll, but those are fewer and further between. I love playing Killer but the amount of effort I have to put into playing this game when I DON'T want to play like a jerk, or not use stronger Killers, is exhausting.
On top of that, playing like a Jerk on either side keeps the circle of negativity flowing, so the stream of continuous hatred and toxicity in the gameplay styles people have to choose to be competitive is compounded by the emotions people feel after the game and release in chat.
Its pretty easy for me to compartmentalize the bad games and the good wins, but the wins where I am playing particularly nasty to win, on either side, doesn't feel right. From abusing stronger loops to proxying hooks, the 'Win' conditions are pretty stale.
If I had any words of encouragement for my fellow players out there, specifically those that want Iri 1, its to climb as high as you can, as fast as you can, as mean as you can, so you can enjoy the game as long as you can before it resets.
Otherwise, you lengthen the amount of time you have to be a Jerk, and that is more draining than any grind I've experienced in my entire gaming career.

Depends on what you think as "playing like a jerk" on either side. If it means playing to win using any (legal) methods than I guess I'm a jerk

I haven't seen a single PvP game where playing good is considered "jerk"

Even though I do think people take this game too seriously when it feels like a party game doesn’t even have an esport. I will say that playing to win is not being a jerk. This is the only game where playing to win is considered toxic and being a jerk. But people really do need to chill on this game for real.

Agreed, if I only have time for a few relaxing games then I don't even bother with this game anymore. I know I'm high mmr so it's either I have to sweat and the game isn't enjoyable or I just play casually and let the survivors bully me. There's no in-between anymore thanks to mmr.

I wouldn't feel as bad if there was any consistency to the matchmaking whatsoever. But more to the point, we're in year 6 and the fun still really breaks down when the game is optimized. This has been an elephant in the room for a long time. It's the whole reason certain playstyles are seen as scummy in the first place and a huge reason the game even survived.
Balance for casual play and nuke the meta stuff on both sides or balance for competitive play and separate the queues. But we see it every single day multiple times a day on these forums. Players who choose to play more casually often have a terrible time because they run into players treating the game like a competition.

stop playing like a jerk then

Yep! I threw on boil over today (some other non-meta perks as well) because I was bored of using CoH, DS, IW and Overcome... I kinda wanted to give the killer a break as well, but guess what? A bunch of killers purposely tunneled, camped, smacked me on hook repeatedly and left me to bleed out all because of that perk. I was playing solo and barely got use out of the perk. This game really brings out the worst in people. Guess I'm just gonna switch back to my meta perks again. This does happen on both sides.

You are missing my point: Playing well with a Killer/Survivor isn't the issue. Its about the consistent need to play optimized that is the problem. There is minimal room for relaxed play as you climb. Its all business. How many games can you play at your best before it gets tiring? And when you want to not play at your best, and try for a game less optimized. how often does the system provide you with the sweatiest groups, furthering the fatigue? This isn't about 10 games, this is about 50 games, 100 games, 200 games. And then doing it all over again on the 13th of every month. It's about having to optimize even harder if you are off meta to secure an MMR win and a Pip.
There is less room for letting your foot off the gas now. And if I had to provide you with an analogy for it: Just because your car can go 200 MPH, does not mean you should always go 200 MPH. This game, in its current state, encourages you to continuously play as hard as possible to win; it isn't healthy in the long term.

Like Otz said, if you want to win you gotta play sweaty and toxic. Its a fundamental problem with the game.
