Is Low-Key Speed-Cheating a thing?
Hey all, so before I get started, I want to say that I play an even amount of Killer and Survivor. With that being said, both sides can engage in SUS behavior and it's also becoming prevalent on consoles. I play via PS4 and I know that there have been new perks added and others modified, but I'm noticing a common theme with some 4-man teams and speed during chases. Sometimes it's more obvious than others such as in two matches that I had last night.
I let the first one go even though I had a feeling that the survivors were speed-cheating and aura reading (I was using Pig originally and crouching so I could see survivor auras using the Note add-on). I couldn't even land one hit on this team and they seemed to just get faster and faster despite only two of them having dead hard (and they kept vanishing after dropping a pallet). In the next match, I decided to play as Doctor (add-ons: King and Queen) (perks: Tinkerer, NOED, Huntress Lullaby, and Lightborn). I've played some dirty matches before but this one really made me consider giving up on DBD. First of all, it was obvious that the survivors were messing with me. Gens weren't popping (until towards the end) and the survivors were just obnoxious in every sense of the word. Between taunting me and body blocking me from all corners (pushing me into walls from the sides and behind) they also had insane speed. I literally watched two survivors drop pallets and then they somehow zipped across the map (at speed that I have never seen before). They also managed to find every single totem (hex and dull) one after the other as if it were a complete joke. Again, I let it go at first until I saw that one gen popped right after the other but then noticed that none of the doors were being opened. At this point, all four survivors approached me from all sides, surrounding me. I just couldn't land any hits and I'm pretty sure they were all ramming into me from the sides.
Long story short, they were all console players so I decided to message one which led to a four-way confrontation despite my being respectful. Their excuse was that I was just imagining everything and that my connection was poor (there was no lag to my knowledge) and when I denied that, they gave the typical excuse that I was imagining things and I just needed to "Get Good." I showed them the clip and they just laughed saying that it was normal. Now when I say they were fast, I mean that when I did catch a glimpse of them during the match, they would loop, drop a pallet, and somehow I would notice the same player far enough that it should be considered SUS. I guess my question is, how can you as a player approach situations like this? I thought this nonsense was being addressed but clearly, this issue isn't being addressed the way it should be.

Absolutely (called subtle cheating).
Basically cheats that give you a SLIGHT edge but not enough to be blatantly noticable. Things like your run speed is 105% instead of 100% or you get boosts to repair or gate opening or healing or any number of things.
I do not believe this is possible on console but I have also been told that people cheating on PC can change their icon to whatever system they want so who knows how reliable that even is anymore.
They're a lot less likely to be reported (since you as the opponent might not even realize they're cheating, hence the name subtle cheating).
Even if you do report it, can you at a glance tell for certain that the survivor is running faster than they should or that gen that got done on the other side of the map wasn't just being worked on this entire time? BHVR seems to barely care about banning blatant in your face cheaters, yet alone someone who may or may not be cheating...

Yeah, Id bet 1 in every 8 survivoid has em.

What I'm noticing is that survivors seem to speed-up when looping with a pallet (like I just can't get near some of them) and once they drop it, they take off. I know there is a perk which allows you to do something like that (I can't remember the name right now) but none of my recent encounters had it equipped. And I'll admit, I'm not the best killer but I know when something seems off during a match. Last month I caught two Meg's using Boil Over during the match but then on the end-game screen, they didn't have any perks equipped. I just don't understand the point.

Yeah I had tons of those they basically run at a slightly higher speed and can be adjusted I think so you can never reach them but it doesn't look obvious so you'd think you're playing badly but it's not , had one recently ######### up a key and he ran way too fast.

Smash Hit, but that only triggers on stunning the Killer with a pallet

I'm noticing the speed thing more and more. They'll low-key keep distance between the two of you and after turning a corner, they'll just take off without leaving any scratch marks.

Thank you, I couldn't think of the name. Yeah the survivors in this case didn't have it. Dead Hard was the only semi-speed perk two of them had but they never used it since I couldn't hit them. I'm pretty sure they were cheating because I don't know many survivors brazen enough to surround a killer just to push them into walls, etc.

Exactly! Two matches in a row like that last night. I just replaced my controller so it definitely isn't on my end. I'm starting to understand why some killers are just plain angry and face-camp. I try not to do that but last night... my mood was out the window. I don't care how skilled someone says they are, teams that do nothing but taunt the killer are really something else.

They we're not console players, they we're epic game store cheaters, during the free week a lot of hackers abused that to get free accounts to cheat on.

Could be a teleport hack:
Run around a corner, teleport a short distance, done. This ties back to the already mentioned subtle hacking, if it's not super obvious that you're doing this then it's not really possible to get video evidence, which is required for them to get banned through a report. The other way for them to get banned is for EAC to detect that they are running whatever tool it is that they are using to do this.

This looks exactly like what I have been going through. The survivor was even further away after turning a corner so that just confirmed my original thoughts.

Usually these unskilled survivors that need cheats to be able to loop a killer they're the most toxic clicky clicky and tbaging ones and killers are forced to tunnel and camp because of survivors toxicity.

Exactly. That's why I run Lightborn as a safety precaution. I don't mind getting blinded but some teams teleport the second you pick up a downed survivor. I tend to ignore the clicky clicky because I know they're doing it on purpose (originally I ran Franklins but with the recent increase in cheating, Lightborn seems to help me out more). Don't get me wrong, I've met terrible killers too but when you consider 4 Survivors and 1 Killer then it's understandable as to why some killers camp. I'm guilty of it myself.

I run into subtle cheaters and lag switchers almost every other match. Maybe I should just quit playing, it's too frustrating to play against. DOesn't look like BHVR will do anything about it so the game is doomed I guess.

Same. it stopped for awhile but recently started up again for me. I'm on the east coast of the US and I noticed a pattern which is why I stop playing killer after 8 pm. I noticed that the later it gets, the more likely it is that you'll get cheaters match after match (on both sides of the aisle). Not going to lie, but I did hang around once as a survivor when another survivor was openly cheating. I didn't notice it at first until I kept getting insta-healed and all of the other survivors DC'ed along with the killer.

Yeah, I don't normally think people are cheating, but I did have one guy the other day when I was playing Scratch Mirror Meyers who I swear was running the same speed as me. (For reference Meyers moves 105% at Evil 1, so he's slower than usual but still faster than a survivor, even a survivor under the new Dark Theory Boon.) I still managed to hit him a few times because he took bad pathing and I also was running Play With Your Food so sometimes has a stack or two. But there were stretches where I would be chasing him flat out in the open and not catching up, it was kind of suspicious.

Pretty sure I've been seeing this a fair bit recently. Sometimes I'm exactly like the last 10 seconds in that clip and the survivor literally vanishes into thin air and I completely lose them.
I've also seen players that you just can't catch up with on certain loops if you just follow them.
Another one I'm seeing quite frequently is people gaining ridiculous amounts of distance after taking a hit. Its usually done after they line of sight me and I follow them around corner/obstacle & they're literally halfway across the map. I'm guessing it's probably something similar to that teleport hack & they try and mask it by using line of sight to avoid getting reported.
