Questions to my fellow Concept makers
Concept makers, you know, those crazy people who make Concepts for DbD, like Killer Powers, Survivors and Perks, some of them even crazy enough to make a whole Chapter, I have two questions for you:
What's the hardest part about making a Concept? Is it trying to make a Killer Power? Trying to find Perks that suit their associated Killer or Survivor? Or is it finding the idea that the Killer/Survivor is based on? Is it trying to balance it out?
And my second question is, what's the easiest part?
As for me, the hardest would have to be Add-ons and Perks.
Add-ons take a long while and I usually get confused as to which Add-ons I already made and which ones I didn't, so I accidentally have 2 of the same Add-on, and sometimes I get an idea for an Add-on, write it down and then realize: "This is too good to be a Uncommon Add-on", and then I have to move it up and then either deleting a different Add-on or moving one down and then changing the effect/numbers of that Add-on.
Perks suck. Finding the right Perk name takes a while and then balancing it for 3 different Perk Tiers takes a bit too.
Easiest would have to be finding an idea.
I usually make licensed Chapter Concepts so finding what I want a Chapter based on isn't hard, it's just a bit tedious looking for what I'd expect for X license and then gathering data/references and adding them to the concept

The hardest part for me is making a unique power. The easiest part is the perks. I make original concepts but don't do add-ons. Only power and perks.

The hardest part for me is actually thinking of the concept and how it would work in the game. So many concepts of powers feel boring, stuff like "oh they get tiers that make your speed of actions faster!" Those aren't bad ideas but they just feel so lazy compared to what could be done, the sky is the limit.
The easiest part and most fun is writing the backstory or doing perks and addons. They usually come easily with the power concept, which is why it isn't that hard for me.

Original Powers definetly suck to make, I've tried making some of them but they never were as good as licensed ones.
You should try making Add-ons. They take a while but they're worth it in my opinion. They can be really creative. Sure, there have to be a few Add-ons that are pure percentage increases, but the rest, especially the higher tier ones, are fun to make

I can't get the hang of Perks, like, at all. I find it hard to create new Perks that aren't similar to already existing ones

The Hardest part would be making the perks and sometimes the power cause you have an idea on what they can use but, it can be rough to make it fit into DBD my most recent one was actually the hardest power to make work in DBD.
Easiest would probably be the Perks I'd say though sometimes they can be pretty annoying depending on how you want to make them.

never be scared of similar perks, the devs do it all the time, they just have to have atleast some unique purpose that makes the perk worth running over others. Think like unbreakable and exponential. They both do the same thing, but one is slower and limited use while the other is unlimited use and fast but limited area.

Power Creep and thematic Powers. Part of the thing that really sells a power/killer, is how the killer plays in tandem with how the killer is written. And the other thing is accepting a weak, intentionally designed power, versus trying to make something optimal for the current game, but bloating the power/chapter.

I try to be more creative with the power than anything.

Hardest part for me was to find the motivation to continue. Made several Killer and survivor concepts (though without add ons) and survivor item concepts. But. Now what?
we have confirmation those won’t get looked at even as inspiration for actual content.. (never expected them to outright take any of the fanmade concepts directly but at least as lose inspiration would be cool)

Confirmation?

In the Q&A dev stream from last October:
@Tayte - "Do you ever take inspiration from fan created chapters?"
Truth be told, no. BHVR's chapters are worked on very, very far in advance due to just how many things need to be considered.
But they love seeing them and reading the comments, if that's any consolation.
this is from GoodBoyKaru‘s summary thread, which you can find here:

Awww that is a shame.

I personally enjoy making concepts, so I'll continue making them but that still sucks. Maybe they'll reconsider in the future?

Probably just a PR answer anyway. If that's their public statement then nobody in the future will be able to say "they stole my concept and didn't credit me!"
