Our position re cross progression is the same as it always has been, whilst it's something we would love to do and we will continue to try to make this happen, it's not something that we can guarantee either way. As it's not solely down to ourselves with regards to implementing this.

How come games like Apex Legends and Yugioh Master Duel have cross progression between all formats including PC and PS4, but DbD doesn’t?

Genuinely interested what the reason other games can do it but DbD can’t are

Pretty sure you won’t get an official statement as BHVR is still trying to get it and hence probably legally unable to openly talk about the reasons.

though speculation on my part: did those game start with cross progression? Are there contents available that are being shared and thus only need to be purchased on one platform and others would miss out? Is the performance/optimization on the platforms differing as extreme as DbD?

Both games have an in game real money purchase store as well as purchases you can make through PSN, the same as DbD.

Yugioh is the same game and progress across all platforms; thought any real money bought currency is locked to that format and it uses the multi format freely given paid currency first before any platform specific ones when making in game purchases of content.

Apex is the same game across all formats but obviously has performance differences with last gen consoles running at 30fps and with the new next gen versions recently updated to run at 60fps, with PC running at more depending on hardware.

I don’t understand how that would make a difference to cross progression though especially as DbD has been out for so many years on these formats and also been so successful.

Cross progression isn't something that's easily implemented. While some games do have it, it gets more difficult the more pieces you add to it. Heck Warframe doesn't even have crossplay yet, let alone cross progression.

There's not only Behavior, but Microsoft, steam, epic games, Nintendo and Sony, the latter of which are well known for not exactly playing well with others. Yugioh is a bit different being that it's Konami, who probably has previous dealings with all parties involved and is a larger studio.

You also have things like licensed characters in DBD which is a whole different can of worms in the video game world.

The point is, it's something that requires all parties to be willing to do, not just behavior. Does that suck? Sure. But that's life.

    Well.

from what I have seen people want to get away from consoles and start on PC with their console progress. And since it is pretty successful I guess the platform owners (Sony and Microsoft) have gotten their fair share off purchases regarding this game on their platforms (DLCs and auric cells). Now if people will get the easy ability to abandon their consoles to then not purchase anything there but on the pc version I guess as the platform owner I would think about it twice to allow this.

If they give the main consoles cross progression then they lose out on revenue from us buying content and MTX again.

If console was fixed optimisation and performance wise to an acceptable level, then less people would be looking to jump ship.

It’s sad really and quite depressing to not feel valued as a format while content is still being sold on it.

I was really hyped for Sadako as wanted her since before Spirit was added and thought after that we would never see her; but after returning to test a few games out there has been almost no progress made to address the performance issues that have severely plagued older hardware since the Nemesis DLC. There’s just no point buying content for a game that doesn’t function well, especially when there are next gen games like Elden Ring, Horizon Forbidden West and Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands running great and without issue on last gen consoles while having a massively bigger scale, looking a lot better, and having many more game systems in place during play than DbD.

If the game was improved to a reasonable level on older hardware, I would not be as fussed about cross progression and would just go back to supporting the game by spending my money on the DLC for my current hardware, but I just don’t feel valued as a player any more.

    Completely understandable.

i bought the game on Switch because they promised cross progression for it at almost the same time as Steam and Stadia (and because it was on sale). Thought it would be great to have a way on the go playing with my progress… but holy…… that performance.

Following!! I just bought my husband a PS5 and kept his PS4 in hopes that I could switch all my stuff over from my Nintendo switch (because the graphics absolutely suck on switch) but it gave me the option on the website but keeps giving me an error code. I spent so much time and money on this game and don't want to start over to lose all of my tome items and everything I've bought. I love this game but refuse to have to buy the game again AND all of my DC's again.
