I'm having a rough time playing killer

Hey all, so I'm around 300 hours in now and play when I can.

Sadly I'm on the verge of leaving (like that even matters lol) as I'm having a pretty tough time playing killer.

Each match has kind of been the same for me baring the MMR tests, I'm coming up vs the same perks everytime, Dead Hard, CoH, DS and it's causing absolute miserable gameplay when I play killer. Especially CoH, I'm completely unable to get any pressure with hit and run when one survivor brings this.

I'm currently unable to run full meta perks myself on each killer as most of my killers aren't level 40 yet so I'm unable to go full meta myself.

I'm starting to think this game just isn't for me, survivor doesn't interest me sadly.

Anyone else just having a miserable time on killer the past few months?

Also do you have any tips? This post isn't meant to come across as me winging I'm just trying to explain my dilemma.

I’d recommend finding a specific killer you enjoy and stick with them. You will enjoy them so much that winning and losing doesn’t matter that much. That’s what I did with Spirit.

Tunneling counters circle of healing, more or less. The best they can do is body block, heal, and body block again if they managed to loop you near the boon. I, personally, rarely run into that issue at high mmr as I play Leatherface. But I have seen other killers be forced to deal with it and it definitely seems frustrating.

Eat DS a$ap. Most survivors get really mad when they are tunneled and hit you with it at the first sign of a tunnel instead of saving it for the potential guranteed escape late game, but if you play around DS, you are just forcing them into an optimal situation instead of taking advantage of their emotional state.

You do not need full meta. Just NOED alone is stronger than what most people here believe the meta is.

And remember, mmr is different for all killers. No shame in playing a few bad killers very casually to have normal games every once and awhile. I would only take your best killer to the top and once you are there, 4k is not a win. You would be lucky to get 2 to be honest. But that is fine, because it will drop you until you 4k enough to start getting to the top level again.

I can't give you much. Just focus on ending chases fast, or knowing when to drop it when you're chasing someone too long. Focus on getting 1-2 people out and then go for everyone else. It's the only way. I could give you more advice, but as long as CoH and Dead Hard pervert how difficult a typical match is, everything I say will either make it seem like killer is easy, or that you have to use X, Y, and Z perks to win without you having the experience of knowing why those perks are the best.

This. Definitely best advice. I was having a similar experience as you (since I'm also a fairly new player) I couldn't get my bearings with playing killer and survivor was just not for me at all. I even had my time with the "meta" killers (nurse, spirit, blight) and still unfun.

Eventually I decided to watch some vids (red's killer mentality videos helped me a lot) and found two killers that appealed to me, which are pyramid head (my main) and plague.

Now I'm really enjoying playing killer. Do I win 4k every time? No, but I feel much more responsible what happens in the match and enjoy the interactions with the survivors whether they are clearly overskilled relative to me or not. Also starting to get really good at them in my opinion.

If CoH is your main issue plague just shutdowns all healing hard, though she has caveats and issues of her own, the most important being an abysmal BP gain potential (definitely not a killer to farm)

Otherwise, use killers with strong chase and tunneling or instadown. Healing doesn't matter if most of your chases end with a down.

You aren't alone. Sadly the killer role is something of a joke in this game. You are there for the survivors to laugh at and mess with, which is why a lot of people get angry when it doesn't work. Killer is almost impossible to 4k with now without meta perks or Nurse. Good teams of SWF will always prevail over most killers. Like others have said, try playing as "toxic" as possible. If this means camping or tunneling one person then so be it

    300 hours isn't a whole lot.

Not too late to turn back.

Hey, yeah I've played another 6-7 hours or so since this post and I'm just gonna take a step back for a few months. It's not worth my sanity lol!

I'll for sure return though once the meta has been shaken up a little.

Killer is just unfun right now.

DBD is a mind game and designed to frustrate. A never-ending cycle of heroism and revenge.

Unfortunately, 300 not enough. You gonna have to keep playing, wat6ch as many YT vids as you can from killer mains making strat vids, map tile guides, perk synergy etc,... this is not a game you master in 300 hours, gonna take a few more.

Don't give up, it gets easier as you continue to play good teams. I enjoy playing survivors and losing, you always learn.

In matches where I stomp them and 4k easily, its not as fun for me personally.

This is definitely where I hit my 'hump', as you're sort of going from a beginner to an intermediate player and you definitely feel that you're fighting tooth and nail for every down.

Weirdly, 200 hours or so later and you're now comfortable with this level of play. You sort of understand how most tiles work now, and know a few mindgames on them. You've picked out a few mains and know them well. You've unlocked most of the perks you want and now have some pretty evil builds on your side.

    But yeah, it's tricky.

Your best bet is to watch a lot of high level play and try to incorporate some of the mindgames and builds you see there. Unfortunately, the killer meta right now is based around regression, so you'll want Ruin+Undying, or better yet Pain Resonance+Agi. CI is also good, and CoB+Pop can work on mobile killers.

Dead Hard is...yeah. But the devs will be changing it eventually. You just sort of have to anticipate it - and if all else fails, the old 'look up mid chase to bait it' thing works about 50% of the time.

What killers do you have, and which do you enjoy playing?

One more thing - I recently decided to give survivor a try once I got Iri 1 on my killers for the month, and I've actually had fun. Once you're playing the role, you'll not only enjoy killer more (it's hard to explain, but you'll see what I mean) but you'll play killer better. If you can get a natural sense of where to hide, how to run, how to drop out of the killer's FOV and where the natural flow of the game generally takes you as a survivor, you'll find that you are now naturally moving to anticipate it when you get back on killer.

That can work, but I found that playing one killer made me worse at some things, and I started to get bored. Now I mix and match between half the roster, and have a blast.

This is good advice. If it's going to be a tough game, focus on one or two survivors and get rid of them. If someone gets to a safe tile without being injured, and you have another potential target, don't waste your time. The absolute best way to slow down gens is to hook people.

I get that some people prefer one role to the other, but playing both roles is essential to get better. I know that you said you're going to take a break, but I'd honestly suggest consider changing roles for a couple months. You may learn some empathy for survivors that way and you'll probably enjoy it more than you think.

You definitely have to be a certain type of player to enjoy playing killer all the time. Regardless of what your intentions are when playing is still significantly more stressful than playing survivor. You have to constantly be alert & making decisions that dictate how to game will end.

Survivor on the other hand is way less stressful and doesn't require as much focus.

When playing killer gets too frustrating you should play survivor for a bit. I would say becoming a good looper is harder than becoming a decent killer, but if you can manage even to start running the killer for 45-60 seconds it will help you significantly when you go back to playing killer. It also gives you an appreciation of what is like to be in the receiving end of some of the more toxic killer play styles i.e Facecamping all game.
